  • This paper presents a study on the analysis for false alarm of heat detector using HRR(Heat Release Rate). And it is represented to threshold value and domain of false alarm. The HRR threshold value of false alarm is calculated to use parameters obtained by small scale fire-experiment. The experiment is conducted to measure detector activation time and flame spread of wood cribs fire, etc. The results show that HRR threshold value of Fixed type detector is 20.24 kW and rate of rise type detector is 13.59 kW, respectively.

  • This study is described for development of the stand-alone smoke and heat detector (SASHD) according to the revised in 2011 type approval and performance inspection code for detector. The main improvement of the revised regulation is source. CMOS microcontroller with nano watt technology is use for development of the workable SASHD over 10 years. The low-power SASHD is developed by using the power-saving sleep mode of microcontroller, by making the low-power source voltage checker, heat detector and smoke detector. The stand-alone detector is developed by smoke and heat detector type for reduce false fire alarm. User can choose type of work between the heat detection mode and smoke & heat detection mode. The SASHD can communicate with each them using RS-485 communication supported from microcontroller. So, this study can develop the SASHD that is able to alarm more wide area when fire occurs and reduce a flash fire alarm.

  • The spot-type heat detector is a main component of the automatic fire alarm system intended to signal when heat energy is produced in protected area. The most of protected area in our country is installed spot-type heat detector. On this study, the responsiveness to the change of environmental temp. of spot-type heat detec-tor were obtained and analyzed under specified temp., velocity in accordance with the KOFEIS stan-dard. The experiment was carried under the condition with the change of environmental temp. Concluion of this study is as follows : 1. It was confirmed that the responsiveness of rate-of rise heat detector is sensitive to temp. below 10 degrees above zero. The malfunction appeared at 40 degrees above zero and intended performance is disqualified at 50 degrees above zero. 2. The intended performance of fixed-temp. detector which is maintained for the change of envi-ronmental temp. But the responsiveneness is confirmed instability for the change of environmental temp.

  • The accurate prediction of fire detector activation time is required to ensure the reliability of fire modeling during the safety assessment of performance-based fire safety design. The main objective of this study is to determine the activation temperature and the response time index (RTI) of a fixed heat detector, which are the main input factors of a fixed-temperature heat detector applied to the fire dynamics simulator (FDS), a typical fire model. Therefore, a fire detector evaluator, which is a fire detector experimental apparatus, was applied, and 10 types of domestic fixed-temperature heat detectors were selected through a product recognition survey. It was found that there were significant differences in the activation temperature and RTI among the detectors. Additionally, the detector activation time of the FDS with the measured DB can be predicted more accurately. Finally, the DB of the activation temperature and RTI of the fixed-temperature heat detectors with reliability was provided.

  • A fault detector was developed for heat exchangers of a hybrid heat pump (HP) for household. The proposed detector can be applied directly to raw operating data. It is to monitor a tracking error between a measured saturation temperature and its state observer. The observer was estimated from a state-space model simulating dynamics of a heat exchanger. The real hybrid HP was substituted with a dynamic simulator that implemented two-phased heat transfer and was validated by experimental data. And artificial fault data were generated using the simulator. Diagnosing the data showed the following. The residual calculated from the state observer error shows a relatively robust consistency with respect fouling level. The fault detector is practically useful because it detects a threshold fouling beyond which the performance starts to deteriorate significantly.

  • The objective of this study was to compare the accuracy analysis and the effect of field application of a newly developed automatic heat detector in dairy cows. From 2009 to 2010, we used 48 Holstein cows (mounting cows : 38 heads, standing cows : 10 heads) raised in experimental barn of National Livestock Research Institute (RDA) for the accuracy analysis of automatic heat detector, and 14 Holstein cows raised in three commercial dairy farms of Cheonan and Pochun area for comparison of the effect of field application. The accuracy of response in cows attached with automatic heat detector was 86.8% (33/38) displayed on board when mounting activity observed, and 100% (10/10) when standing activity observed, and on average, 90.0% (43/48) displayed on board. The accuracy of automatic heat detector in on-farm test was 85.7% (12/14), and conception rate was 75.0% (9/12).

  • This paper presents the results of artificially accelerated aging characteristics of the rate of rise spot type heat detectors. This experiment carried out to investigate the detector's operating characteristics when a fire was broken out or the regular tests were performed. The result showed that the delay of operating time or no-operation of heat detector which was made by company B and used in the field for 5 years may be occurred even at the $100^{\circ}C$. This result is due to the leakage of inflated air from heat chamber. However the operating display LED was not out of order, even if the temperature was increased up to $160^{\circ}C$.

  • Infrared (lR) detectors are widely used for such applications as thermoelstic stress analysis, medical diagnostics and temperature measurement. Infrared detectors commonly need to be refrigerated below 80 K, and thus a cooling system should be equipped together with the detector system. The cooling load, which should be removed by the cooling system to maintain the nominal operating temperature of the detector, critically depends on the insulation efficiency of the cryochamber housing the detector. Cryochamber considers the conduction heat transfer through a cold finger, the gases conduction and radiation heat transfer. The thermal loads of an infrared detector Cryochamber with radiation shield are investigated experimentally in present study. Since the effect of radiation heat transfer on thermal loads is significant, radiation shields is installed in the cold finger part to protect heat input through radiation. It is found that the thermal load can be substantially reduced by increasing the number of radiation shield.

  • Fixed temperature heat detectors that respond to the heat generated in fire plume and alarm when the temperature reaches a specified point, give a great influences to the loss of life and property according to their reaction sensitivity. In this study, hot wind tunnel tests and compartment fire experiments were performed to investigate the response time and temperature of fixed temperature heat detector. As a result, simple equations were derived which can be predicted the response time and temperature of the fixed temperature heat detector for the ramp type fire. Also other useful data, such as the effective temperature, time constant, response time index(RTI) were obtained.
