The purpose of the study is to identify the correlation between the degree of conducts on health promoting behaviors and the related factors. 1112 academic high school students were taken for this study by self-administered questionnaire surveys from Nov. 10. 1998 to Dec. 15, 1998 in the city of Taegu. As to female students, the better grades and mother's educational backgrounds they possessed, the higher scores in health promoting behavior were(p〈0.01), the better grades, the higher in self-efficacy(p〈0.01), the better grades and mother's educational backgrounds, the higher self-respect(p〈0.05), and when the family number were 3 to 5 the highest score was. In case of male students, from the above results, economic status, self efficacy, self-respect, and perceived health status are presented as the crucial factors on health promoting behavior meaning the better economic status, self-efficacy, self-respect, and perceived health status, the higher degree of conducting health promoting behavior. It picked mother's educational background, self-efficacy, self-respect, and perceived health status as the essential on female students, it indicating the better mothers' educational background, self efficacy, self respect, and perceived health status, the higher degree of conducting health promoting behavior. On the results of this study, I would like to suggest that we will have to conduct not only health education for health promoting behavior but also promoting programs for self-efficacy and self-respect at the same time in order to enhance the degree of conducting health promoting behavior for high school Students.
With the aim of diagnostic research on health education. the health promoting behaviors related to elementary school students' weight control. life satisfaction. health state. self-efficacy. parent's interest and knowledge about weight control and school health education of weight control were investigated on the basis of the PRECEDE model. The data for this study were collected from a sample at an elementary school in Chongju for 5 days in July. 2004. In analyzing the data. t-test. one-way ANOVA. chi-square test and multiple regression analysis were done by using SPSS 10.1 The results were as follows : 1. The elementary school students' level of life satisfaction was above half of the full point. The score difference of life satisfaction was statistically significant by grade and academic achievement(F=4.646. p=.010. F=16.042. p=.000). 2. The perceived level of health state was moderate for all students. Normal weight students' level was significantly higher than obese students' (t=3.667. p=.000). 3. The perceived level of health promoting behaviors related to weight control was above the moderate. The perceived level of health promoting behaviors related to weight control in the obese students was significantly higher than that in normal weight students(t=-2.225. p=.027). The students used computer for 1.48 hours and watched TV for 2.52 hours a day. 4. The score of health promoting behavior self-efficacy in this subject was 70.61. 5. The parents' level of interest in the obese students' weight control was significantly higher than that in the normal weight students(t=-4.86. p=.000). 6. Sixty-six percent of the students learned about weight control education in school. 7. The health promoting behavior self-efficacy among the educational diagnostic variables was the most influential variable in students' health promoting behaviors related to weight control. This research diagnosed the needs of weight control education in elementary school by assessing various factors related to weight control behaviors. The research findings suggest that we can enhance the prevention of childhood obesity by strengthening the related factors such as parents' knowledge and interest, health promoting behaviors and self-efficacy related to weight control in school health education.
The Purpose of this study is to analyze the health behavior of high school students and to find factors influencing it. A questionnaire survey was used for collecting data from 201 male students between May 1 and June 30, 1993. The data were analyzed by the multiple regression technique in an SPSS package. The major results are as follows: (1) 84.5% of the students responded to the survey are regularly exercising to promote their health and 44.8% of them are doing something to manage stress. (2) 28.9% of the students are smoking, 43.3% of them are drinking, 5% of them are taking adhesives, 6.5% are taking stimulants, and 4.5% of them are taking analgesics. (3) while self-efficacy of the students and health interests of their parents are positively related to health promoting behaviors, they are negatively related to health risk behaviors.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation between perceived health status and health-promoting behaviors in female college students. Method: Data were collected from December 10 to 31. 2007. In 160 female college students, perceived health status was measured using the Medical Outcomes Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36), and health-promoting behaviors using the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile (HPLP). Results: The major findings of this study were as follows: 1) The mean scores of the level of health promoting behaviors, physical health status, and mental health status were 2.44 (SD=0.39), 51.9 (SD=8.03), and 42.56 (SD=10.77), respectively. 2) Health-promoting behaviors were correlate with physical health status (r=-.361) and mental health status (r=.498). 3) Health-promoting behaviors were significantly associated with allowance and mental health in capability, which explained 28.9% of variance in health-promoting behaviors. Conclusion: The results suggest that it is necessary to strengthen female college students' practice of exercise and responsibility for health in order to improve their health promotion behaviors. Also, the results of this study give useful information for designing interventions and program development for female college students' appropriate health promoting life.
Objectives: The aim of the study is to investigate the health belief model affecting the oral health behavior in middle and high school students. Methods: The subjects were 296 middle and high school students in Seoul, Gyeonggi and Incheon from February 15 to March 21, 2014. The students filled out the self-reported questionnaires after receiving informed consents. The instrument was adopted and revised from those of Kim & Hwang, and Choi & Joo. The questionnaire consisted of 4 questions of general characteristics, 9 questions of oral health status including subjective oral health status, frequency of tooth brushing, duration of tooth brushing, method of tooth brushing, use of oral health devices, dental clinic visit, scaling services, snack intake, and smoking. The oral health belief consisted of 25 questions including susceptibility, seriousness, barriers, benefit, and self-efficacy using Likert 5 scale. The reliability of Cronbach's alpha in the study was 0.725. Data were analyzed using SPSS ver 18.0 for frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA, ${\chi}^2$-test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient, simple regression, and binary logistic regression. Results: Oral health beliefs of middle and high school students affected the oral health behaviors. Susceptibility, barriers and self-efficacy also influenced on the oral health behaviors. In order to provide the best oral health education, susceptibility and self-efficacy are the primary factors to increase motivation because the motivation endows the students with correction of oral health behaviors that improve the knowledge, attitudes, and decrease barriers in oral hygiene. Conclusions: It is important to correct oral health behaviors in the middle and high school students by providing the continuing and systematic oral health education.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between the obesity rate in elementary school students in Daejeon and the relevant factors such as social-demographical factors, genetic factors, birth factors, diet factors and intelligence factors. Methods: For the research, 443 fourth grade students, 405 fifth grade students and 417 sixth grade students from six elementary schools in Daejeon Metropolitan City Participated in this study and classified into three groups: normal-weight group, mild obesity group, and moderate or severe obesity group. Results: The total obesity rate of the elementary school students in the school district of Daejeon Metropolitan City was 14.2%; the rate of mild obesity was 7.2%; the rate of moderate obesity was 5.5%; and the rate of severe obesity was 1.5%. The obesity rate of surveyed boys was 16.9%, and the obesity rate of girls was 11.1%. The significant factors for girls' obesity were fathers' EMI, mothers' EMI, living standards, constant demand of foods, preference for greasy foods, frequency of eating snacks, and daily walking hours. It was found that students' subjective mind and objective health index were related to obesity. In the case of obese students, they had more concern about their health and more stress from the dissatisfaction of their physical appearance than normal students. Conclusions: From the above evidences, it is apparent that the obesity of elementary school students has strong relations with eating habits rather than physical activities. It is to be hoped that obesity prevention programs such as effective meal guidance. parental guidance for watching TV, and intense physical activities will be included in the curriculums of health education for elementary school students.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between BMI, perceived weight and health status of the nursing students by finding the discrepancy between obesity by measuring BMI and students' perception of their weight. Method: The data were obtained by a questionnaire from 211 female nursing students of G college, Inchon, Korea, and by measuring their heights and weights. Result: The BMI of the 1st grade students($20.74kg/m^2$) was higher significantly than that of the 3rd grade students($19.65kg/m^2$). The difference between the obesity by BMI and perceived weight was significant. The concordance rates between obesity by BMI and perceived weight were 22,9%, 59.5%, 90.9% and 50% in underweight, normal, overweight, and obese students respectively. The students perceiving themselves overweight showed higher physical health status significantly than the students perceiving themselves underweight. There was a statistically significant correlation between BMI and physical health of the students. Conclusion: BMI of the nursing students has a significant influence on their physical health. Also there were significant discrepancies between the obesity by BMI and perceived weight.
Objectives : The objectives of this study were to investigate the handwashing and practice of health science college students and emphasize the importance of handwashing and infection control precaution to the students. Methods : This study was conducted by 586 health science college students through self-reported survey. All data were analyzed using SPSS/PC 13.0 program. Results : 1. Female students washed hands more frequently(7 times per day) than male students(6 times per day). Female students washed hands for 39 seconds in the meanwhile male students washed hands for 28 seconds. 2. Handwashing after using toilet accounted for 79.6% and 72.0% in female and male students, respectively. 3. Most of the handwashing was performed with faucet water (82.1%). The others were tepid water (54.3%), running water (98.1%) and water with soap bar (66.7%). 4. The reason for not practicing handwashing was due to annoyingness (36.3%). Conclusions : Health science college students' tended to wash their hands frequently. However, there existed a gap between the handwashing perception and practice in the previous reports because the observed practice was different from self-estimated perception.
Purpose: This study compared lifestyles of middle school students with and without atopic dermatitis in order to obtain the baseline information for health education. Methods: This study involved 256 students from 20 middle schools in Busan who suffered from atopic dermatitis and 231 students from 2 middle schools in Busan who did not have atopic dermatitis. Results: Students with atopic dermatitis had a lower family income (탑=16.99, p<.001) and were more likely to come from a nuclear family (탑=10.28, p<.001) than control students. 98% of the students with atopic dermatitis had several skin symptoms. 78.5% of students with atopic dermatitis reported experiencing difficulties in their daily because of their condition. Students with atopic dermatitis took shorter baths and used soap less frequently than the students in the control group. The students with atopic dermatitis cleaned their houses and bedclothes more often than normal students in an attempt to remove cockroaches and house-dust mites. Students with atopic dermatitis also ate fast and instant foods more often than normal students. Conclusions: Some lifestyle differences exist between students with and without atopic dermatitis. Therefore, education and guidance may be important to promote good health and improve lifestyle quality.
Purpose: This study is to analyze the curriculum satisfaction and to provide basic information for effective school management of Dept. of Health section. Methods: This survey, modified questionnaires based on Hee-Joo Moon's(2005), is accordance with undergraduate students and shows very high credibility upper than Cronbach's Alpha. 1,500 questionnaires are distributed(01. Oct. 2010~30. Oct. 2010) but only 1,213(80.8%) are returned and, except for 14 insincerely answered, 1,199(79.9%) are used. Results: The results of the study are following. The population characteristic of this survey is that 445(18.1%) are male, 739(61.9%) are female, 595(49.6%) are in health section, and 604(50.4%) are in none health section. 628(53%) chose getting jobs as their motivations for school choice and 727(60.8%) chose getting jobs and career guidance as theirs. The satisfaction of male students was higher than that of female students based on the comparative analysis of the curriculum satisfaction. The satisfaction of the students in none health section was higher than that of those in health section based on the comparative analysis of the curriculum satisfaction. This survey indicates that once the satisfaction with the major courses and career guidance increase, the overall satisfaction grows. Conclusion: The keys to improve the curriculum satisfaction including students' in department of dental technology are to provide and develop differentiated curriculums and support programs that meet students' expectations. In addition, the customized curriculums based on the level and aptitudes of female students are needed.
