Objectives : The objectives of this study were to determine the relationship between lifestyle-implementation and metabolic syndrome in an electronics research and development company, and to provide a foundation for health providers of health management programs for setting priorities. Methods : From July 1 to July 16, 2008 we carried out a descriptive cross-sectional survey. Consecutive workers of one R & D company in Seoul, Korea (N=2,079) were enrolled in study. A checklist for lifestyle (from the National Health Insurance Corporation) consisted of questions regarding diet, drinking, smoking and exercise. After the survey, researchers obtained data from health profiles for metabolic syndrome(waist-circumference, triglycerides, HDL cholesterol, blood pressure and fasting blood sugar level). Lifestyle was recorded as good or not good. Statistical analysis of metabolic syndrome and the lifestyle of subjects was done using multiple logistic regression analysis. Results : The prevalence of metabolic syndrome in our study gropu was 13.3% (N=277). After adjustment for age, the adjusted odds ratios (odds ratio, 95% confidence intervals) for metabolic syndrome increased in proportion to the number of bad habits: two (1.72, 1.23-2.44), three (2.47, 1.73-3.56), and four (3.63, 2.03-6.34). Relative to subjects eating both vegetables and meat', the OR for 'meat' eaters was 1.66 (1.18-2.31). Compared with 'nonsmokers and ever-smoker', the OR for 'current-smoker' was 1.62 (1.25-2.10). Compared with 'Healthy drinker', the OR for 'unhealthy drinker' was 1.38 (1.05-1.83). Conclusions : Poor lifestyle was associated with an increased likelihood of metabolic syndrome. These findings suggest that lifestyle-based occupational health interventions for young employees should include a specific diet, smoking cessation, and healthy-drinking programs.

This study was a cross-sectional survey of the effects of pregnancy necessity recognition on emotional happiness and mediation effect of health control behavior on it. A total of 200 participants in the study were collected from structured questionnaire online and the data collection was from July $1^{st}$ to July $31^{st}$, 2018. Health control behavior questionnaire was developed by Wallston, K.A., Wallston, B.S. & Devellis, R (1978), Emotional happiness was analyzed by using PANAS (positive and negative affect schedule) developed by Watson, Clark and Tellegen (1988). The collected data were chai-square($X^2$), Pearson correlation, Dummy regression analysis, simple regression analysis, and the mediated effect analysis by SPSS 18.0. As a result, Under statistical significance, there were differences in the recognition of pregnancy necessity were depending on religion, participant's age, number of siblings, thought of optimal marriage age(p<0.05). More siblings, more religious, older age, and more recognized the pregnancy necessity. The analysis of Pearson correlation with the pregnancy necessity, health control behavior, and emotional happiness reveled that it was relevant (p<0.01). Dummy regression analysis showed that people who thought that pregnancy was necessary were 0.700 times more likely to felt emotional happiness that people who thought it was unnecessary (p<0.01). Analysis on the mediation of health control behavior, in which the effects of pregnancy recognition on emotional happiness, showed that it was effect (other people's health control behavior: B:.299, p<0.01, internal health control behavior : B:.217, p<0.05). Based on these results, this study suggested that to promote pregnancy recognition, families with brother and sister should be programmed with recommendations for exercise and alcohol abstinence, religious belief and health control programs.

Background: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers and a major public health problem in developing countries. However, early detection and treatment may be achieved by breast self-examination (BSE). Despite the importance of BSE in reducing the incidence of breast cancer and esultant deaths, the disease continues to be the most common cause of cancer death among women in Iran. This study aimed to determine the effects of self-care education on performance of BSE among women referring to health centers in our country. Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental interventional study with pretest/posttest control group design was conducted on 168 women referred to health centers. The data were collected using a validated researcher-made questionnaire including demographic variables and trans-theoretical model constructs as well as a checklist assessing BSE behavior. The instruments were administered to groups with and without self-care education before, a week after, and 10 weeks after the intervention. Then, the data were entered into the SPSS statistical software (version 19) and analyzed using independent sample t-tests, paired sample t-test, repeated measures ANOVA, Chi-square, and Friedman tests (p<0.05). Results: The results showed an increase in the intervention group's mean scores of trans-theoretical model constructs (stages of change, self-efficacy, decisional balance, and processes of change) and BSE behavior compared to the control group (p<0.001). Conclusion: The study confirmed the effectiveness of aneducational intervention based ona trans-theoretical model in performing BSE. Therefore, designing educational interventions based on this model is recommended to improve women's health and reduce deaths due to breast cancer.
Background/Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of eating habits and self-efficacy on health promotion behavior and to improve the quality of life in each life cycle. Methods/Statistical analysis: This study is a narrative research study for nursing students at university B in C city. The data were analyzed by SPSSWIN 18.0, t-test, ANOVA and bonferroni post test, Pearson correlation coefficient calculation and multiple regression analysis. Findings: Health promotion behaviors were positively correlated with eating habits and self-efficacy. Multiple regression analysis showed that 53.8% of the parents, caregivers, health status, eating habits, and self - efficacy of the nursing students showed the health promotion behaviors of the nursing students. The higher the self-efficacy(t=6.06, p<.001), the better the health-promoting behaviors(t=3.28, p=.001). Application/mprovements: Development of programs for strengthening health education and self-efficacy is required for proper eating habits and health promotion.
Objectives: This study aimed to confirm the relationship between toothbrushing practice after lunch and typical oral health behaviors in children and adolescents according to the subject and type of social support. Methods: The study used data from the 2010 Korean Survey on the Health of Youth and Children and selected 8,704 elementary, middle, and high school students as final targets. Multiple logistic regression was conducted to confirm the link between social support and toothbrushing after lunch. Results: The results showed that in elementary and vocational high school students, statistical significance of all social support variables disappeared after controlling for both demographic and social factors and oral symptom experience. However, in the middle school students, the emotional support of the neighbors and the emotional support of the teachers showed statistically significant effect on brushing daily after lunch (p<0.05). In general high school students, there was a significant association between family emotional support and toothbrushing after lunch (p<0.01). Conclusions: The oral health promotion program for children and adolescents needs to be integrated and coordinated with the overall health promotion program. In particular, it is believed that the school-based program can strengthen the practice of health behaviors by inducing behavioral changes based on the formation of healthy relationships and trust of colleagues and teachers. Therefore, it is necessary to develop social network-based programs including social support such as emotional health and healthy relationships that can be applied among children for oral health promotion.
The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of living condition and aging on food intake in Korea. 98 free-meal receivers and 81 members in well-being center for the aged were asked about their food frequency and food consumption and their socioeconomic status by a questionnaire. All data were analyzed by SPSS (Statistical Packages for the Social Sciences) 10.0 program. There were statistical differences of living condition, marital status, former job and teeth status between free-meal receivers and people with stable lives. Moreover, all age groups of free-meal receivers had lower income, living expenses, educational period and frequency of physical activity than those of people with stable lives. But smoking and drinking was much higher in free-meal receivers. Arthritis was the most prevalent disease in both groups. And free-meal receivers had higher blood pressure and lower Body Mass Index than people with stable lives. Food consumption of free-meal receivers was definitely lower than that of people with stable lives in terms of food frequency and standard amount of food eaten. But noodles, bean sprouts and eggs were very important foods for free-meal receives. Food consumption of the aged was affected by age, educational period, income, blood pressure, duration after retirement, frequency of physical activity and Body Mass Index. Therefore, as various socioeconomic status affects on food intakes of the aged, more effective and practical nutritional programs which consider the receivers'socioeconomic status are needed for the nutritionally at-risk groups like the aging free-meal receivers.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of sensory integration therapy (SIT) on gross motor development and respiratory function of cerebral palsy children. The design of this study was one-group pre-and post-test design. Subjects of the study were arbitrarily chosen based on predetermined selection criteria among the cerebral palsy children who were treated as out-patients at one rehabilitation hospital in Kyunggi-do. The study was conducted between early April and late July in 2000. Twelve children were in the experimental group. A five-step SIT program was devised from a combination of SIT programs suggested by Ayres(1985) and Fink(1989), and an author-designed SIT program for cerebral palsy children. The experimental group was subjected to 20 to 30 minutes of SIT per session, two sessions a week for ten-week period. Collected data were statistically analyzed by SPSS PC for Wilcoxon signed rank test, and paired t-test. The results were as follows: 1. In gross motor development, post-experimental gross motor scores were higher compared to pre-experimental scores with statistical significance. 2. In respiratory function, post-experimental forced capacity vital scores were higher compared to pre-experimental scores with statistical significance. In conclusion, SIT was found to be effective in gross motor development and respiratory function. But, for the more effectiveness of SIT on gross motor development and respiratory function, further studies employing longer-time experiments are recommended.
The purpose of this study was to examine the current status of elderly sports both domestically and internationally, and to explore strategies for the activation of Silver Taekwondo as one of the sports disciplines for the elderly. To investigate the status of elderly sports globally, press releases and statistical data from various national public institutions and sports facilities (including the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Korean Statistical Information Service, e-National Indicators, and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation) were collected. Comparative analysis with related papers, journals, and books led to the following findings for activating Silver Taekwondo. Firstly, elderly sports in South Korea are primarily conducted through welfare centers, with a preference for dance, yoga, and music, while martial arts, including Taekwondo, had a lower preference rate. To increase participation in Silver Taekwondo, a variety of marketing approaches, similar to those used internationally, such as experiential case studies in media, film production, distribution, and telephone promotions, are necessary. Secondly, the development of Silver Taekwondo programs tailored to the training targets and the cultivation of instructors capable of executing these programs are needed. The development of programs should involve collaboration with Taekwondo institutions, dojangs, universities, and lifelong education centers, requiring the participation of majoring students and elderly sports instructors.

Purpose : Recent changes in the population structure of Korea, such as rapid decline in birth rate and exponential increase in old-aged people, prompted us to prepare a new health improvement program in children and adolescents. Methods : We reviewed current health screenings applied for children and adolescents in Korea and other developed countries. We collected and reviewed population-based data focused on mortality and morbidity, and other health-related statistical data. We generated problem lists in current systems and developed new principles. Results : Current health screening programs for children and adolescents were usually based on laboratory tests, such as blood tests, urinalysis, and radiologic tests. Almost all of these programs lacked evidence based on population data or controlled studies. In most developed countries, laboratory tests are used only very selectively, and they usually focus on primary prevention of diseases and health improvement using anticipatory guidance. In Korea, statistics on mortality and morbidity reveal that diseases related to lifestyle, such as obesity and metabolic syndrome, are increasing in all generations. Conclusion : We recommend a periodic health screening program with anticipatory guidance, which is focused on growth and developmental surveillance in infants and children. We no longer recommend old programs that are based on laboratory and radiologic examinations. School health screening programs should also be changed to meet current health issues, such as developing a healthier lifestyle to minimize risk behaviors—or example, good mental health, balanced nutrition, and more exercise.
