The main purpose of this study is to identify the effects of a structured nursing intervention program on dysmenorrhea in middle school girls. This study employed two methods of research at the same time: a quasi-experiment pre- and post-test to use for comparison. Subjects were middle school girls assigned to the research program: 40 girls in the second grade, 40 girls in the third grade at K Girls' Middle School and H Girls' Middle School located in J city. The data were collected for 68 days from August 23 to October 30, 1999. The data were collected by observation technique and by a self-administered questionnaire. The instruments used for this study were as follows: the "Face Interval Pain Scale" menstrual pain instrument developed by McGreth(1987) and the "Menstrual Distress Questionnaire" dysmenorrhea instrument developed by Moos(1968). The dysmenorrhea knowledge instrument was developed by the researcher and refered to above. The research procedure was as follows: after preliminary examination, the experimental groups were provided educational programs with O.H.P. films developed by the researcher and with the videotape "first meeting" supported by P&G company and produced by EBS. The groups followed the educational programs twice for two weeks. At the beginning of menstruation, these subjects could choose one among the following choices: * Jacobson's progressively muscle relaxation method and massage treatment * Jacobson's progressively muscle relaxation method and hot bag treatment * Jacobson's progressively muscle relaxation method, a pain killer treatment, and massage treatment * Jacobson's progressively muscle relaxation method, a pain killer treatment, and hot bag treatment The dysmenorrhea of the control group were measured during the same period. The analysis of the collected data was done using an SPSS-PC+, descriptive statistic including real numbers, percentage, averages, standard deviations and t-test, $x^2$ test, and ANCOVA. The results of this study were as follows. (1) The knowledge level of the girls provided with the planned nursing intervention program was higher when compared to these who did not follow the educational programs. (2) The original difference in the dysmenorrhea level having been controled, the dysmenorrhea level made, nevertheless, a statistical difference between the experimental group and the control group(F=63.8, p=.00). Observed pain on quantity measurement of dysmenorrhea showed significant difference depending on the treatment(t=4.6, p=.00). In conclusion, those in the planned nursing intervention program had a higher knowledge level and fewer symptoms than the control group. Accordingly, the nursing intervention program for dysmenorrhea developed by the researcher can be effectively applied in nursing practice and can be the foundation for this kind of program.
The purpose of this was to evaluate the level of knowledge about Hepatitis B and AIDS among dental hygiene students at six dental hygiene educational programs in nationwide, compare the findings to those of Song's study. 1703 dental hygiene students surveyed by mail and answered a questionnaire, using the questionnaire used developed by DiClemente el al., on Hepatitis B vaccination, antibody production, experience of unintentional needle stick injuries, experience of surgical operation and blood transfusion, personal risk factors for HBV and HIV, management of HBV and HIV postexposure management et al. The data indicated that dental hygiene students (79.0%) in this study had more HIV vaccination than dental hygiene(74.3%) in Song's study. As for recognition of antibody production after Hepatitis B vaccination, only 34.6% of respondents answered they knew having antibody production and 95% of respondents knew not having antibody production. Over one-half of the respondents (55%) answered they didn't even recognize having antibody production. 52.3 percent of dental hygiene students experienced unintentional needle stick injuries. The findings on the knowledge about Hepatitis B and AIDS were that dental hygienists (76.5 points) received higher mean score than those of dental hygiene students (71.0 points) and that the distribution of right answer rate also showed wider range in dental hygiene students (27.7~97.5%) than those of dental hygienist (41.2~99.5%). There were no statistical differences among dental hygiene education programs. Finding of this study support that the curriculum of dental hygiene program should include instruction on sources and methods of transmission of infectious diseases, risk of virus transmission in the workplace and principles of infection control. Furthermore, infection-control practices should be utilized routinely and their application to dental personnel, management of HBV and HIV postexposure management. Furthermore, for preventing the further spread of infectious diseases (HBV, HIV and AIDS${\cdots}$) caused by bloodborne viruses, imposing an obligation rather than recommendation on Hepatitis B vaccination to all dental personnel and routinely utilizing infection-control guidelines for all dental patients in dental practices (include dental educational programs) should be accomplished by coordination the government agency.
Adolescence is vulnerable to various Health Risk Behaviors (HRB). These behaviors can affect his remaining life as well as adolescence, thus prevention of HRB is a critical issue in health education. This study is aimed to provide basic information for prevention of HRB. Thus, this study was conducted to analyze the impact of peer group's health risk behaviors on health risk perception (HRP) and that of health risk perception on health risk behaviors based on 832 respondents. The 852 subjects were selected in six middle and high schools in Seoul through random sampling. Data were collected from September, 18-October, 21, 1998, and the 832 data were analyzed after excluding the 20 incomplete and inaccurate data. Questionnaire items and measures are based on an instrument to measure Perceived Health Risk Perception, which Hodge B.C. developed in 1992. Cronbach alpha is used to test the reliability. The reliability of HRP and HRB is 0.9473, 0.8768 in this study, Statistical analysis divided into four phases. First, the impact of socio-demographic characteristics on HRP is analyzed by oneway ANOV A. Male students have lower HRP than female students. As grade goes up, HRP is getting lower. Perceived higher concern of parents and HRP are correlated. And the experience of school health education and HRP are correlated. Second, the impact of peer group's HRB on the HRP is analyzed by linear regression. Peer group's HRB and HRP are negatively correlated, Third, the impact of HRP on HRB is analyzed by linear regression. There is a correlation between high HRP and low HRB. Fourth, Powerful impact factors on HRB are analyzed by stepwise multiple regression. Grade, gender, peer group's HRB, and related HRP is entered as independent variables. Because of correlation between entered variables, three interaction variables between grade, gender, peer group's HRB and related HRP also entered, In general, peer group's HRB is the most accountable factor to HRB. And Interaction variable between HRP and peer group's HRB and HRB are negatively correlated. These results indicate that HRP may reduce the impact of peer group's HRB on HRB. Some recommendations are as follows: First, health educational programs suitable for gender and grade are required. Second, a systematic cooperation between school and home is necessary for effective prevention of HRB. Third, the educational effect for decreasing HRB by increasing HRP is statistically assisted. However, peer group has much stronger impact on HRB than subjective HRP, thus special consideration and management are necessary for peer group which does HRB more frequently.
The aim of this study was to investigate adult individuals' perceptions on the association between chronic diseases and oral health provide basic data required for motivating individuals to follow ideal oral health behaviors and boost their interests in oral disease prevention and treatment. Subjects in their 20s to 50s were selected through the convenience sampling method and eleven questions were set as factors and answered via self-administered questionnaires. To determine statistical significance, analysis of variance was used with the level of significance set at 0.05. The subjects' perception of the association between chronic diseases and oral health were analyzed with respect to their health behaviors. Individuals with relatively higher stress levels demonstrated higher levels of perception levels (p<0.05). Public education regarding the association between chronic diseases and oral health has not been ideally effective in South Korea. Thus, the general public's perceptions of the association between chronic diseases and oral health should be revised. In addition aspects regarding this matter should be enhanced within oral health education programs which often only focus on demonstrating the importance of oral health management so that individuals can get sufficient information on the association between chronic diseases and oral health.

Objective: This study was to investigate the knowledge, health belief, and vaccination behavior on hepatitis A among university students. Methods: A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted from $3^{rd}$ to $25^{th}$ March, 2014 and 197 subjects were enrolled in statistical analysis. Results: The result showed that the score for knowledge of the subjects on hepatitis A was $4.59{\pm}3.06$ out of 15 points, for health belief $2.39{\pm}0.28$ out of 4 points, and the vaccination rate of the subjects was 12.7%. There was significant difference in hepatitis A knowledge score according to experience of hepatitis A check-up and hepatitis A vaccination history of family members, and in health belief according to gender. For hepatitis A vaccination there was significant difference according to experience of hepatitis A check-up, family history of liver disease, hepatitis A vaccination history of family members, and education history of hepatitis A. As a result of logistic regression analysis experience of hepatitis check-up and hepatitis A vaccination history of family members were significant factors for hepatitis A vaccination. Conclusions: The level of knowledge, health belief for hepatitis A of the subjects was low and vaccination rate also low. The experience of hepatitis A check-up and hepatitis A vaccination history of family members were factors affecting hepatitis A vaccination. It would be necessary to develop programs for improving level of knowledge and health belief and raising the rate of hepatitis A vaccination for the university students in Korea.

Objectives: In comparison with functional dyspepsia, food accumulation is known to have wider concept. On this study, we will make a proposal on the concept of food accumulation by a statistical comparison between pyungweesan questionnaire and health related questionnaires. Methods: We studied the similarities between six factors of pyungweesan questionnaire and four health related questionnaires(Rome II criteria of functional dyspepsia, subjective symptoms of fatigue test, beck depression inventory, state-trait anxiety inventory, etc.) using multidimensional scaling. Results and Conclusions: 1. Physical-emotional axis and acute-chronic axis were labelled in a two-dimensional scaling solution. 2. Seup-dam(濕痰) factor and sik-che(食滯) factor of food accumulation were closely related to fatigue. 3. Bi-seup(脾濕) factor of food accumulation was closely related to depression and anxiety. 4. The findings suggest that a concept of food accumulation reflects some aspects of physical fatigue and emotional depression as well as dyspepsia.

Recurrent event data occurs when a subject experiences same type of event repeatedly and is found in various areas such as the social sciences, Economics, medicine and public health. To analyze recurrent event data either a total time or a gap time is adopted according to research interest. In this paper, we analyze recurrent event data with incomplete observation gap using a gap time scale. That is, some subjects leave temporarily from a study and return after a while. But it is not available when the observation gaps terminate. We adopt an interval censoring mechanism for estimating the termination time. Furthermore, to model the association among gap times of a subject, a frailty effect is incorporated into a model. Programs included in Survival package of R program are implemented to estimate the covariate effect as well as the variance of frailty effect. YTOP (Young Traffic Offenders Program) data is analyzed with both proportional hazard model and a weibull regression model.
Childhood injuries are the primary cause of death and disability among children aged 5 to 14. Consistent practice of learned safety behaviors can reduce the occurrence of severe injuries among children. However, safety behavior concern is low among Korean-American children specifically and American children, in general. The objective of the study is to evaluate the impact of an unintentional injury prevention curriculum, Risk Watch among Korean-American children. A quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group was used for the designed of the study. Two intervention and two control Korean schools in Atlanta participated in this study. The intervention consisted of weekly lessons in traffic, bicycle, pedestrian, and fire safety. One hundred and two students completed a pre-test and a post-test. The main outcomes were safety behaviors (seat belt use or helmet use), behavioral intentions, and safety knowledge. Analysis of covariance was used for the statistical analyses. Strong intervention effects were found for increasing knowledge of all safety topics in the intervention group. Additionally, statistically significant intervention effects were detected for increasing seat belt and helmet use, as well as behavioral intentions of wearing a seat belt and wearing a helmet, among pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students. For students in grades 1 and 2, intervention effects were found for increasing helmet use. Among students in grades 3 to 8, the intervention group showed statistically significant increases for seat belt use. Limitations of the study and recommendations for modifying and supporting unintentional injury prevention programs for school children are discussed.

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the Missing Teeth (MT; mean number of missing permanent teeth) index experienced by year for adults between the ages of 19 and 64. Methods: This study was conducted by analyzing the raw data of participants in the 4th to 8th periods of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). For the statistical program, IBM SPSS / WIN 26 was used and an independent sample t-test was performed. Results: The average number of MT by year showed a decreasing trend. In 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011, the average number of MT by sex was higher among females, and this was statistically significant (p<0.05). However, in 2019, males had a higher average number of MT than females, which was statistically significant (p<0.05). Conclusions: Males had a higher average number of MT than females in Korea, so it is considered that oral health programs or oral hygiene management according to sex are necessary.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between high-intensity physical activity (work) and beverage intake frequency among Koreans. The data used in this study were obtained from the 8th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(KNHANES) conducted in 2021. Statistical analyses, including χ2-test, and binary logistic regression, were conducted to examine group differences(p<0.05). It was found that 63.6% of the group consumed carbonated water once a week or less, and 68.6% consumed energy drinks once a week or less. These results indicated that carbonated water and energy drinks were more frequently consumed among individuals engaging in high-intensity physical activity(work), and that the majority of beverages were consumed once a week or less. Based on the findings of this study, it was hoped that the results can serve as a basis for the development of healthier alternative beverages to replace carbonated water and energy drinks during high-intensity physical activity(work). Additionally, it highlights the importance of exploring new approaches that promote health and the need for intervention programs aimed at improving health.
