  • Problem-Based Learning(PBL) is at the forefront of educational reform. The acceptance of PBL as an educational approach with wide application represents a major change in thinking about educational processes and their relationships to the wider community. In 1969, PBL as a method was introduced at the Medical School of McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. The most important advantages in PBL are acquiring knowledge that can be retrieved and applied, learning to learn(self-directed learning) and learning to analyze and solve Problems. PBL is widely used within the sector where it had its origin, namely health profession education. A generally accepted starting point in the development of a problem-based curriculum is the set of professional competencies of future graduates, which describe the typical problems professionals have to deal with. Formulating learning objectives highly depends on the format and content of the presented problems. Contrary to that, in a classic course in higher education, it is customary that teachers express objectives in a compulsory subject matter. Curricula which advocate problem-based learning generally use case studies in the form of paper cases, simulations and real patients with the intention of stimulating classroom discussion of clinical and basic science concepts within a problem-solving framework. One goal of using paper cases is to stimulate the learning of basic science within a clinical situation. Through self-directed study the students solve problems and explore the psycho-social dimensions within the cases. The general outcome based on the program evaluation research of PBL is that PBL students respond positively about the learning experience. In summary, PBL is a curriculum design and a teaching/learning strategy which simultaneously develops higher order thinking and disciplinary knowledge bases and skills by placing students in the active role of practitioners(or problem solvers) confronted with a situation(ill-structured problem) which reflects the real world.

  • Research over the years has progressively shown substantial broadening of the tumor necrosis factor alpha-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL)-mediated signaling landscape. Increasingly it is being realized that pancreatic cancer is a multifaceted and genomically complex disease. Suppression of tumor suppressors, overexpression of oncogenes, epigenetic silencing, and loss of apoptosis are some of the extensively studied underlying mechanisms. Rapidly accumulating in vitro and in vivo evidence has started to shed light on the resistance mechanisms in pancreatic cancer cells. More interestingly a recent research has opened new horizons of miRNA regulation by DR5 in pancreatic cancer cells. It has been shown that DR5 interacts with the core microprocessor components Drosha and DGCR8, thus impairing processing of primary let-7. Xenografting DR5 silenced pancreatic cancer cells in SCID-mice indicated that there was notable suppression of tumor growth. There is a paradigm shift in our current understanding of TRAIL mediated signaling in pancreatic cancer cells that is now adding new layers of concepts into the existing scientific evidence. In this review we have attempted to provide an overview of recent advances in TRAIL mediated signaling in pancreatic cancer as evidenced by findings of in vitro and in vivo analyses. Furthermore, we discuss nanotechnological advances with emphasis on PEG-TRAIL and four-arm PEG cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) hydrogels to improve availability of TRAIL at target sites.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a brand naming strategy for rural specialty products of Muju. This study was to apply brand development research to the field. The selected investigation subject, a local farming operation producing a specialty product, was chosen from a New Enterprise Support Project of Farm Women ('06). The selected subject was a farming operation producing bokbunja drink in Muju. The data was derived from 137 female consumers. The major results of this study were as follows. First, the process of brand development strategy was advanced by six steps: Step 1, environment analysis; Step 2, brand case study; Step 3, SWOT analysis (Strength Weakness, Opportunity, Threat factor analysis); Step 4, direction design for brand naming development (Targeting, Brand focus concept extraction); Step 5, brand logo and symbol production; and Step6, Evaluation. Second, to extract brand naming development direction, key concepts in association with natural connection, area features, representative resources, and natural friendship were investigated. Namely, the health function concept was selected on the basis of a consumer recognition investigation where results appeared most highly favorable. Also, it was decided that the direction of brand naming should emphasize a green image and the location name of Muju. Finally, the brand name was decided to be "Saenggichan" bokbunja liquid and the slogan went with "guchondon-native thorn bokbunja from jar maturing."

  • ;A new root canal instrument and instrumentation technique: a preliminary report. Cleaning and shaping the root canal system has been and continues to be a challenge for even the most experienced endodontist. Curved. narrow canals. in particular. cause difficulties for the beginner as well as the specialist. A new instrument designed to incorporate new concepts was developed to ameliorate the problems in cleaning and shaping root canal systems. This new instrument has been given the name of SW (Senia and Wildey). The new SW instrument uses controlled right and left rotational forces. This motion was used to clean and shape simulated root canals in plastic blocks and root canals in extracted teeth. Instrumentation appeared to be easier. faster. and more precise than with conventional instruments. especially in curved canals where there was remarkable reduction of canal transportation. A mechanical version of the SW instrument was also developed. It was used to flare the coronal portion of the root canal system. Wildey WL. Senia ES., Oral Surg Oral Med Oral Pathol1989 Feb:67(2):198-207 Another look at root canal instrumentation. Several aspects of root canal instrumentation need additional research. Various factors must be considered in an analysis of instrumentation of the root canal system: the dentin that is cut: the technique used to cut it: the design of the instruments: the material and manufacturing process used to make the instruments: the irrigant used during the procedure: and the anatomic configuration of the root canal system. An analysis of these factors clearly indicates that existing root canal instruments and techniques are less than ideal and. in fact. do not accomplish what is expected of them. Root canals must be properly. but. at the same time. destructive and unnecessary removal of dentin should be kept to a minimum. The Flex-R and Canal Master instruments were developed to address some of the shortcomings of existing instruments and techniques. More scientifically based research is needed to fully evaluate these new instruments and techniques and to develop future instruments. Wildey WL; Senia ES. • Adaptive lengthening or shortening of the nervous system is essential in order for a part of the body to move without restriction or resistance. Up until now, most treatment concepts have focused on normalizing muscle tone and preventing contractures in muscles and joint, but, as Butler and Gifford have brought to the attention of therapists, when a part of the body moves, nerves are required to move as well, so that the integration of nervous system mobilization in treatment is equally important. As the main function of the nervous system is impulse conduction, it is obvious therefore that adaptive lengthening, both centrally and peripherally, is essential in order to accommodate the enormous variety and extent of body movements and postures used in everyday life impeding news conduction. In present day manual therapy, most physical therapist mobilize the nervous system inadvertently. Probably what may make it more difficult is that, for most physical therapist it is a relatively new tissue to contemplate, at least in biomechanical terms, and basic knowledge of structure is generally less than if joints and muscles. The purpose of this study was to introduce the nervous system mobilization to a physical therapist who is primary a clinician and who has concerned in the areas of biomechanics and pathology looking far answers to the clinical Problems.
