The purpose of this study was to investigate the practice of eating life and the needs of dietary education of high school students. The data was collected by means of questionaire form the total of 463 high school students who were living in Daegu and Gyeongbuk province. Recognition of the need dietary education was 3.47/5.00, the utilization in daily life was 3.16, the degree of interesting was 3.23, and the degree of difficulty was 2.82. The reason of necessity was health care and growth (54.6%). The reasons of interesting were as follows: various information (28.3%), job choices (21.2%), happy family life (20.7%), cooking practice (19.7%). The degree of dietary education needs was 3.24. The need of cooking ability improvement was highest as 3.59. The practice of eating life was 3.41. Such as hand washing, food hygiene was the highest as 3.71. But the items of healthy eating life and evaluation of eating life were the lowest. The practice in daily life was positively correlated with recognition of the need, utilization, interest. But it was a negative correlation with the difficulty. Therefore dietary education should be strengthened in home economics subject, and to increase the rate of daily practice the teaching content and methods must be improved. In addition, dietary education in schools should be closely connected with families and local communities.

To investigate the antagonistic inhibitory effects in a mixed culture between probiotics and various pathogenic microorganisms, 140 probiotics were identified using a 16 rRNA sequencing phylogenetic analysis method, and various probiotics strains were isolated from Korean kimchi from January to December 2016. The antagonistic inhibition test of a mixed culture of four probiotics (Enterococcus faecalis, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, and Lactobacillus reuteri) with excellent antimicrobial activity and six pathogenic microorganisms (Candida albicans, Salmonella Enteritidis, E. coli O157:H7, Shigella flexneri, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa)showed that the growth of most probiotics strains increased normally after culture, but growth was inhibited almost completely in most pathogenic microorganisms, except for S. Enteritidis. This antagonistic inhibitory effect in vitro was attributed to the low pH of the lactic acid and organic acid produced during fermentation. As a result, four probiotics strains isolated from Korean Kimchi are very likely to be developed as therapeutic agents for female yeast infections and colon and skin care. In the future, these therapeutic agents will help improve public health related to probiotics.

Objectives: The water fluoridation program has been implemented since 2008 at the Daesan water treatment plant, Changwon City. The aim of this study is to evaluate caries preventive effect of permanent teeth from community water fluoridation program Methods: Evaluation surveys were conducted on 8-, 10- and 12-year olds in the fluoridated and non-fluoridated area of Uichang-gu and Seongsan-gu, Changwon City in 2015. The number of the subjects in 2015 was 722 in fluoridated area and 707 in non-fluoridated area. The caries preventive effect of permanent teeth by community water fluoridation was estimated by the differences in adjusted DMFT and DMFS scores between the program and control groups. Cofounders of mean number of fissure-sealed teeth or surfaces, and number of subjects by gender were adjusted to estimate the caries preventive effect of permanent teeth. Results: The mean DMFT score or DMFS score of children aged 8-, 10- and 12-years adjusted for the number of fissure-sealed teeth or surfaces in fluoridated area were significantly lower than those in non-fluoridated area in 2015. The caries preventive effect of permanent teeth estimated based on the difference of mean DMFT scores adjusted for fissure-sealed teeth, age and number of subjects by gender between control and program group among children was 37.3%. Conclusions: These results suggest that the caries preventive effect of permanent teeth from water fluoridation program at Daesan water treatment plant, Changwon City was so high that the water fluoridation program should be developed in other regions in Korea.
The ultrastructure and histochemical characteristics of the submandibular gland was examined in the big white-toothed shrew, Crocidura lasiura. A submandibular gland of Crocidura lasiura was a mixed gland composed of serous and mucous acinar cells. Secretory granules from the acini were discharged through the intercalated duct, the granular duct and the striated duct into the oral cavity. Serous and mucous acinar cells and granular duct cells had large amount of rough endoplasmic reticulum, free ribosome and prominent Golgi apparatus at the basal cytoplasm of the cell, and many granules at the apical cytoplasm. Oval type serous granules had a homogeneously pale round shape of bead at the center. Mucous granules were distinct from those of the other mammalian species having variety patterns with several dense bands into homogeneous pale matrix. A serous-like secretory granules and myelin-like body were observed in the cytoplasm and the lumen of granular duct cells. The myelin-like body is a characteristic structure only reported in the salivary glands of two shrews, Suncus murinus and C. dsinezumi. Striated duct cell had numerous well-developed mitochondria but secretory granule was not shown at all.

The study performed questionnaire to the patients receiving implant operation, who visited dental clinics and hospitals(2 hospitals and 5 clinics) from Jul. 1, 2009 to Sep. 12, 2009 in order to study the factors giving effects to patient's satisfaction in the selection of implant. 145 questionnaire papers collected from patients were analyzed with SPSS12.0 program. The result revealed that the satisfaction with implant operation was usually normal when implant was operated because of tooth extraction due to dental caries and periodontal disease and it was usually high when implant was operated because of wound(P<0.05). When considering each cause of tooth extraction, the satisfaction with pronunciation function was usually normal(P<0.001), the satisfaction with functional part including foreign body sense was very low when the cause of operation was periodontal disease(P<0.01). The satisfaction with hospital environment depending on the cause of hospital selection was usually high when hospital was selected because of doctor's fame. It was low when hospital was selected because it was close to home(P<0.001). The satisfaction with the number of hospital visits depending on the number of implanted teeth was usually low when many teeth were implanted(P<0.01). The analysis on the satisfaction with tooth shape and color showed that the satisfaction was high when '1~2' teeth and 'more than 6' teeth were implanted(P<0.05). In order to improve patient's satisfaction with implant, it is necessary to recognize individual's oral status and request correctly. It is determined that proposal of operation period, number of hospital visits, function and expected aesthetic satisfaction degree will contribute to the improvement of mutual reliance between doctor and patient and post-operation satisfaction degree.
In the present study, results of the identification of Gram-positive bacilli (GPB) were analyzed by using the MALDI-TOF MS technique to score each 2-year blood culture at a university hospital. In addition, 16S rRNA sequence analyses and MALDI-TOF MS results are compared to targeting strains that had been isolated two or more times within the same patient, to evaluate the usefulness of MALDI-TOF MS in GPB identification. According to the cut-off (${\geq}1.7$) criteria, there were 410 (57.5%) reliable strains and 303 (42.5%) non-identified strains among the GPB identification results of 713 strains, using a microflex MALDI Biotyper (Bruker Daltonik GmbH, Bremen, Germany). The isolation appeared most often in the following order: Corynebacterium striatum, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis, Paenibacillus urinalis, and Listeria monocytogenes. Nearly three-fourths, 66 out of 89 (74.2%) of the strains for Corynebacterium striatum; 44 out of 60 (73.3%) strains for Bacillus cereus; and all (25 out of 25, 100%) Listeria monocytogenes strains were identified by their high scores of 2.0 or higher. Most (293 strains out of 303) non-identified strains were strains isolated only once and not significant as infectious bacilli. A total of 43 out of 50 (86.0%) strains matched and were able to be identified based on the 16 rRNA sequencing comparison results of strains that were isolated twice or more within the same patient and significant as infection bacilli. Non-matching among 5 out of 7 strains was not identified, even with MALDI-TOF MS. In conclusion, GPB can be identified in blood cultures using MALDI-TOF MS. This can be done accurately with ease, rapidly, and at a low cost. It is also thought to be helpful in GPB diagnosis and treatment.

We examined the pattern of brand naming for dental clinics depending on various factors in 551 members of The Korean Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. The results follows: 1. Brand naming depending on the sex showed that the clinical subspeciality was 33.4% and the name of people or regional location was 31.7% in male members. In female members, the clinical subspeciality was 49% and a feeling of affinity was 29.9% (p<0.05). 2. Brand naming using the name of people and regional location in association with the year of graduation, the period before the 1960s was 66.7% the 1960s was 62.5% the 1970s was 68.8% and the 1980s was 46.5%. That is, these periods accounted for the most part. During the 1990s, however, brand naming based on the clinical subspeciality accounted for 52.2%. After the 2000s, it accounted for 59.8% (p<0.05). 3. In Seoul, Pusan and Kyounggi Province, brand naming based on the clinical speciality accounted for the most part. In other areas, the name of people and regional location, as well as a feeling of affinity, was the most prevalant (p<0.05). To summarize, there was a variability in the pattern of brand naming for dental clinics in association with the sex, schools and year of graduation and the regional location.
This study aims to find a way to control infection of community radiology effectively by calculating the degree of contamination, culture and identifying the flora in radiology of five general hospitals in Gyeongsangbuk-do. Staphylococcus, Micrococcus, Pseudomonas stutzeri, Pseudomonas oryzihabitans were identified as surface flora. These are know to be pathogens of hospital acquired infection and there was no radiology-specific flora. Research subject hospitals were conducting similar infection control education but degree of contamination of each hospital showed significant difference. Difference in degree of contamination according to contact sources were analyzed by Contact sources were classified into technologist-using, patients-using and common-using materials. Analysis of each hospital's degree of contamination showed that patient-using materials were significantly more contaminated than technologist-using and common-using materials (p<0.001). Devices which are similar to each other in monthly average frequency of use showed no significant difference in degree of contamination, but general X-ray devices and chest boards which are used most frequently showed higher degree of contamination than others. In addition, hospital A, B and C which have heavier monthly average caseload showed relatively high degree of contamination on irradiation devices which are used by technologists only or by technologists and patients commonly, office desks and doorpulls. Hence it is considered that intensity of infection control education should be different according to the degree of monthly average caseload. This study provided an opportunity to aware that technologists' feeling of contamination is crucial for infection control of radiology, and the Accupoint ATP public hygiene monitoring system which was used in this study for measuring the degree of contamination was proved to be an effective measuring device for hospital acquired infection management.
Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) contains M. avium-intracellular complex (MAC), M. fortuitum, M. chelonae, M. abscessus, M. kansasii, etc., which causes infections in swine, poultry, and other animals. These bacteria are opportunistic pathogens that can contaminate people, and in doing so, cause various social economic problems. This study proved that NTM are also present in air conditioners of multiuse facilities in frequently visited populated areas. The results of this study are meaningful because they showed that pathogenic microbes can live in the surroundings and cause diseases to people with impaired immunity. This study used the AFB stain, L-J medium culture, and PCR method for the detection of MTB and NTM in air conditioner dust. MTB was not detected in any of the collected samples, while NTM was detected in 2 out of 40 samples (5%). Most people living in the modern environment cannot avoid being exposed to air conditioners so special attention is needed for sanitary inspections and the management of air conditioners. Moreover, it is important to study NTM through various individuals, accumulate the related data and establish the methods and standards of hygiene management system to reduce NTM infections in public areas. Moreover, it would be necessary to identify the precise species of NTM through DNA sequencing and evaluate the effects of NTM on the pulmonary tuberculosis in immunodeficiency patients.
Granular gland regeneration in the toad after dorsal skin wound histologically was examined using scanning and transmission electron microscopy. After cutaneous wounds were induced by excision, animals were maintained in special cages for up to 20 days. In transmission electron microscopy (TEM), newly formed granular gland, though poorly developed, was seen on 4 day after injury. Epithelial cells moved toward apical region of newly formed gland. The cells had smooth surface and were not connected to other cells by desmosomes. Mitochondria rich cell (MRC) possessing long cytoplasmic processes formed a gland cavity and hemidesmosomes were found under the cell processes. Basal cavity of newly formed gland consisted of MRC, pro-granular producing cells (pGPC), and granular producing cell (GPC). Moreover it was observed that xanthophores moved to the base of the epithelial tissue on 10 day after the injury. These cells contained numerous pterinosomes and carotenoid vesicles. Immature pterinosomes were large and carotenoid vesicles were moderately electron dense. On 13 day after the injury, xanthophores contained abundant carotinoid vesicles and lammelated pterinosomes. Iridophores were also observed adjacent the developing xanthophores on 16 day post-injury. These observations indicated that regeneration of granular gland from glandular precursor cells during wound healing and subsequent expansion of the glandular cells might be dependent on maturation and proliferation of these newly formed cells.
