The aeroacoustic noise from intake head of a vacuum cleaner is caused by complicated transient pressure fluctuation and it greatly affects the overall SPL of the vacuum cleaner. In this study, we intended to decrease the overall SPL by reducing the aeroacoustic noise from intake head. In the first the place, we analyzed the aeroacoustic noise from the unsteady fluid analysis of intake head. And then, we grasped the dominant frequency band from the aeroacoustic noise by comparing the spectrum distributions between examinations and analyses. Also, we systematically investigated the aeroacoustic noise sources from each part composing the intake head. Consequently, we redesigned each part of the dominant noise sources and suggested the modified intake head, resulting in the reduction ortho overall SPL by 3.6dB(A).

In high-capacity disk drives with ever-growing track density, the allowable level of position error signal (PES) is becoming smaller and smaller. A substantial portion of the PES is caused by disk vibration. This can be reduced by using a head gimbal assemblies (HGAs) that do not confine the slider movement to the vertical direction to disks, but allow movement to the radial direction of disks with respect to disk vibration. Several types of HGAs are proposed for such radial motion of the slider. Experimental results show that the PES levels are reduced by the proposed HGA-design concepts.
A simplified modeling approach of forced vibration for occupied car seats was demonstrated by using a mathematical model presented in previous paper. Nonlinear and linear equations of motions were rederived for forced vibration, and the transfer function was used to calculate the frequency response function. The experimental apparatus were set up and hydraulic shaker was used to obtain the system responses. Through the tests, mannequin's head had a lot of problems, and the responses with a head and without a head were measured. To explore the effects of linear dampings and friction moments at the joints, linear analyses were performed. New sets of linear spring and damping coefficients, and torsional dampings at the joints were calculated through parameter study to match up with experimental results. Good agreement between experimental and simulation frequency response estimates were obtained both in terms of locations of resonances and system deflection shapes at resonance, indicating that this is a feasible method of modeling seated occupants.

In recent years, the piping vibration in many Power Plants is being increased by the aged generating facilities due to a long time use. Generally, the pressure fluctuations associated with the flow-induced excitations in this case are broadband in nature. Mainly, the dominant sources of vibration are a vortex-shedding, plane waves and boundary layer turbulence. The peak level of the spectrum is proportional to the dynamic head. A severe disturbance in pipeline results in the generation of intense broadband internal sound waves which can propagate through the piping system. The characteristic frequencies of operating loads of 20%, 57%, 70%, 100% are 4 - 6 Hz and coincide with the results from impact hammering test and FEM analysis. We chose the wire energy absorbing rope restraint as a vibration reduction method after reviewing the various conditions such as site, installing space and economic cost etc. After installation, the vibration level was reduced about 54% in velocity.

To do a HRTF customization, researchers used a spherical head model for modeling the head block of structural modeling of HRTF, which is the one of the technique for HRTF customization, because of its simplicity. In this paper, an analytic spheroidal HRTF caused by an incident point source will be introduced. Using proposed spheroidal HRTF, near-field HRTF customization can be applicable through a structural modeling of HRTF. To see the necessity of sheroidal head model, comparison of two analytic solutions, which are classical spherical HRTF and proposed spheroidal HRTF, will be shown. On the view point of ITD, optimal head model which matches with the measured ITD of KEMAR HRTF can be obtained. ITD results show that there are only slight differences between spherical and spheroidal head model. Magnitude comparison is made by constructing head model using measured head size. Although magnitude comparison is not studied between optimal models, the results of 24 of 36 subjects are shown that spheroidal head model matches notch frequency pattern of measured HRTF better than those of spherical one, where the sound source is at contralateral position.

To customize individual characteristics of HRTF, a spherical model has been used for structural modeling technique. A pseudo-code of prolate spheroidal HRTF caused by incident acoustic point source is already developed, and it can be used a head shadow filter for structural modeling of HRTF. In this research, to see the necessity and efficiency of spheroidal head modeling, ITD optimization is performed on CIPIC HRTF database. From given cost function, ITD-optimized spheroidal head model, whose ITD information is the most matched version of measured ITD information, is found by varying head parameters subject by subject. By comparing results of ITD-optimized spheroids and ITD-optimized spheres, we concluded that a spherical head model is more efficient way of generating head shadow effect than a spheroidal head model does.

This paper describes on the distribution of the vibration and the noise produced on a skipjack pole and line training ship M/S Pusan 403 (243GT, 1,000ps) under the cruising or drifting condition. The vibration and the noise level were measured by use of protable vibration analyzer (B and K 3513) and sound level meter (B and K 2205), and so the vibration level was converted into dB unit. The check points were set through every decks and around important places of the ship. The results obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. The vibration and the noise level 1) On the main deck, both the vibration and the noise level were highest at the vertically above the main engine, whereas the vibration level was the lowest in the bow store and the noise level beneath the bridge. 2) Under cruising condition, the vibration level around the cylinder head of main engine, port side of the engine room, on the shaft tunnel was 80, 67, 65 dB and the noise level 104, 87, 86 dB, respectively. 3) The vibration level on the vertical line passing through the bridge was the highest at the orlop deck with 60 dB and the lowest on the bridge deck with 55 dB, whereas the noise level the highest at the compass deck with 75 dB and the lowest at the orlop deck with 53 dB. 4) The vibration and the noise level on the open decks were the highest with 65 dB and 84 dB on the boat deck, whereas the vibration level was the lowest at the lecture room with 51 dB and the noise level the lowest at the fore castle deck with 57 dB. 5) On the orlop decks, both the vibration and the noise level were the highest at the engine room with 65 dB and 85 dB, and the lowest at bow store with 54 dB and 52 dB, respectively. Comparing with the vibration level and the noise level, the vibration level was higher than the noise level in the bow part and it was contrary in the stern part of the ship. 2. Vibration analysis 1) The vibration displacement and the vibration velocity were the greatest at the cylinder head of main engine with 100μm and 11mm/sec, and were the smallest at the compass deck with 3μm and 0.07mm/sec. They were also attenuated rapidly around the frequency of 100Hz and over. 2) The vibration acceleration was the greatest at the cylinder head with the main frequency of 1KHz and the acceleration of 1.1mm/sec super(2), and the smallest at the compass deck with 30KHz and 0.05mm/sec super(2).
