사업장 방류수 중 특정수질유해물질 배출 특성 연구 (Study on characteristics of specific hazardous substances in the industrial wastewater effluent)

  • 본 연구에서는 10 업종 165 개소의 폐수배출사업장을 대상으로 방류수 중 중금속, 휘발성유기화합물, CN, phenol 등 특정수질유해물질 24 종 대하여 배출특성을 조사하였다. 중금속 중 Cu는 0.008~35.420 mg/L 농도 범위를 보였으며 검출율 46.8 % (165개 중 79 개)로 전 업종에서 검출되었다. 그 외 Cd, As, Hg, Pb, Cr+6의 검출율은 0.6~1.8 %로 낮았다. CN은 1 개, phenol은 5 개 사업장에서 검출되었다. VOCs는 12 종이 검출되었고 chloroform 80.6 % (0.42~81.60 µg/L), benzene 16.4 % (1.49~3.31 µg/L), trichloroethylene 11.5 % (1.78~6.02 /L), 1,1-dichloroethylene 10.3 % (1.23~5.89 µg/L), dichloromethane 8.5 % (0.28~968.86 µg/L) 등의 순으로 검출율이 높게 나타났다. 대부분의 VOCs는 미량 검출되었으나 dichloromethane는 금속제조, 식료품제조, 세차시설 3 개 업종에서 수질배출허용기준을 초과하였다. Chloroform은 모든 업종에서 검출되었으며, 세탁시설 및 수도사업에서 평균 농도가 각각 24.88 µg/L, 53.41 µg/L로 높게 나왔다. 산업 폐수중의 난분해성인 특정수질유해물질 처리를 위해 물리·화학적인 처리방법인 활성탄 흡착, 펜턴산화, 오존처리, 광촉매 및 UV radiation 등 공법 도입이 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

대기중의 중금속 분석을 위한 여지의 전처리 방법에 관한 연구 (The Study on Pre-treatment Method of Filter for Analysing the Heavy Metals in Air Quality)

  • This study was carried out to establish the standardized analysis method in order to decide accurate concentrations of hazardous metals in the air. Acid decomposition method used usually was compared to microwave digestion method. Comparing results of tested background concentration in blank filter, we found that the magnitude of element concentration was Na, Ca, K, Mg, Al and Ba by order. The element concentrations of Glass fiber filter were higher than those of Quartz fiber filter, and the number of undetected components in Glass fiber filter was lower than that in Quartz fiber filter. Thus it is supposed that the concentration of background elements in Glass fiber filter was higher than those in Quartz fiber filter The extraction rate of microwave digestion method was superior to those of acid decomposition method during the test of blank filter as well as SRM of NIST. In case of the SRM of NIST, the average extraction efficiency of acid decomposition Method and microwave pretreatment is 53.8∼82.7%, 81.3∼97.1%, respectively. This result might be caused by the closed system of Microwave, which make outflow and loss of components less. Also microwave digestion method has other merits such as the minimization of time, reagents, and contamination. Furthermore, if the extraction condition, extraction time and used acids are optimized, the better results will be represented.

폐기물소각시설의 유해대기오염물질 배출특성 연구 (Characteristics of Hazardous Air Pollutant Emissions from Waste Incinerators)

  • In this study, we have investigated waste incinerators which are one of the major HAPs emission sources. In order to obtain more reliable HAPs emission data from waste incinerators, direct sampling for the possible pollutants from the stack was carried out and the analysis was performed. The purpose of study was to understand the emission status from waste incinerators and recognize the problems and finally to set up a strategy to reduce the HAPs emissions from waste incinerators. The emission concentrations of 8 species of heavy metals and 16 species of PAHs have been analyzed for the first time in Korea. Not only the emission characteristics of HAPs from waste incinerators were identified, but also the analysis of reduction efficiencies for control devices such as BF and wet scrubbing systems was carried out.

식수대용차 재료의 비의도적 유해물질 오염도 조사연구 (Investigation of Unintentionally Hazardous Substance in Teas)

  • 2018년 10월부터 2019년 10월까지 광주지역의 대형마트(50건), 재래시장(25건) 및 온라인(50건)에서 구입한 보리차, 옥수수차, 결명자차, 둥글레차, 옥수수수염차 등 침출차 총 125건을 대상으로 중금속, 벤조피렌, 곰팡이독소 함량 조사를 통해 오염실태를 평가하였다. 중금속 중 As, Cd, Pb 함량을 검사하였으며, benzopyrene은 발암물질로 분류된 benzo(a)pyrene의 함량을 조사하였다. 그리고 곰팡이독소는 aflatoxin (AFB1, AFB2, AFG1, AFG2), ochratoxin A (OTA), fumonisin (FUB1, FUB2), zearalenone (ZON)의 함량을 검사하였다. 「식품공전」에 제시된 침출차의 규격과 비교해 보았을 때 중금속 함량은 기준이 설정된 범위(Pb 5.0 mg/kg 이하) 내에서 검출되어 모두 적합하였고, benzo(a)pyrene은 125건 중 16건의 시료에서 12.8%의 검출률을 나타내었으며, 곰팡이독소는 125건 중 29건의 시료에서 23.2%의 검출률을 나타내었다. 하지만 현재 우리나라 「식품공전」에서는 침출차의 벤조피렌, 곰팡이독소 기준규격이 정해져있지 않아 이에 대한 안전성 여부는 확인하기 어려웠다.

Occupational Cancers with Chemical Exposure and their Prevention in Korea: A Literature Review

  • The usage and types of chemicals being developed, with diversified new exposure of workers, are of natural concern to occupational disease. In Korea, with industrialization, application of many chemicals has increased. A large proportion of mortality and disease is due to cancer, and the causal hazardous agents include chemical agents, like heavy metals and so on. Due to the long latency period with malignancies and the fact they are usually found after workers' retirement, it is suggested that management policies must be established to prevent occupational cancers occurring among workers in Korea. To give a general description about the efforts to prevent the occupational cancer with exposure to chemicals, articles on the trends of occupational cancers were reviewed and summarized with related research and efforts for prevention in Korea. It is important to improve the understanding of occupational cancer and help to maintain sustainable and appropriate measures to guarantee workers safety and health.

MODELING OF AUTOMOTIVE RECYCLING PLANNING IN THE UNITED STATES

  • The United States automotive recycling infrastructure has successfully reduced the amount of automotive waste sent to landfills, especially since the introduction of shredders in the late 1950s. Shredders are necessary to process and recycle automotive hulks and other durable goods. However, this industry faces significant challenges as the automotive manufacturers are increasing the use of nonmetallic components which are difficult to recycle. Additionally, it is becoming obvious that automobiles contain hazardous materials which place heavy burdens on the environment. To address this growing concern, we propose a process planning model for automotive shredders to make tactical decisions regarding at what level to process and at what level to reprocess feed stock materials. The purpose of this paper is to test analytical models to help shredders improve the profitability and efficiency of the bulk recycling processes for end of life automobile returns. The work is motivated by an actual recycling problem that was observed at Capitol City Metals shredding facility in Indianapolis, Indiana.

펜톤유사반응을 이용한 광미중에 비소의 불용화 (Immobilization of Arsenic in Tailing by Fenton-like reaction)

  • Recently, the contamination with heavy metals in closed mines has been seriously considered since it can disturb human health through the polluted drinking-water and crops. Therefore, the concerns about the remediation of polluted land and treatment technology for hazardous matters have been accelerated. However, any of practical methods for treatment and/or remediation have not been yet suggested. In this research, a novel technology was studied to immobilize arsenic in tailings and soils disturbed by mining. In this technology, Fenton-like reaction were applied to immobilize arsenic in tailings. In the examination of Fenton-like reaction using pure pyrite, $H_2O$$_2$ and arsenic, the concentrations of extracted arsenic and iron were reduced up to 90 and 75%, respectively From the result of SEM-EDS, the Immobilization of arsenic was observed on the surface of pyrite. Thus, it can be said that the coating and/or adsorption prevents the extraction of arsenic.

The applicability of Freundlich's isotherm model for the leaching of solidified hazardous waste using cementitious binders

  • A laboratory study was conducted to investigate the immobilization of the laboratory waste sludge, mainly from chemical oxygen demand (COD) waste, using cementitious binders. The binders were: Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), and lime-Rice Husk Ash(RHA) cement. The economic evaluation was done for three different kinds of cementitious binders, namely, OPC, Portalnd Rice Husk Ash Cement (PRHAC) which contained rice husk ash 50 percent by dry weight, and lime-RHA cement. The result showed that lime-RHA cement was the cheapest. The applicability of Freundlich's desorption isotherm was studied to assess the teachability of sludges. The teachability of cement mortars was found to follow the desorption isotherms. Therefore, it was concluded that based on this test, the leachate concentrations of the solidified heavy metals could be predicted, approximately by the Freundlich's isotherm desorption modeling.

아가미 혈종과 지느러미 표피탈락 현상을 이용한 어류 폐사원인 연구 (Studies on the Fish Kills by Histopathological Characteristics in Gills and Caudal Fins)

  • Histopathological changes of gills and caudal fins isolated from fishes, Cyprinus carpio, Carassius auratus, and Hernibarbus labeo, which were killed by oxygen deficiency or toxic chemicals, were studied. The toxic chemicals were HCl, NaOH, chloroform, benzene, heavy metals(Cu, Cr, Zn, Pb, Hg), and o-dichlorobenzene. The exposure level was enough to kill the fishes within 30 minutes. Oxygen deficient water was prepared by aeration of nitrogen gas and the oxygen concentration was less than l ppm. Cryocutting was used for the rapid preparation of tissue slides and the tissues were stained by hematoxylin/eosin. In the fishes killed by hazardous chemicals, congestion and/or hyperplasia of secondary lamella and erosion of fin were found as the major histopathological changes. Whereas, these characteristics were not observed in gills or caudal fins of fishes killed by oxygen deficiency. These different bioindications appeared in the fishes killed by toxic substances or natural causes, can be used for the rapid identification of the causes of fish kills.

트롬멜 스크린 시스템을 이용한 Landfill Mining기술 (A Landfill Mining Technology by Trommel Screen System)

  • Landfill Mining is becoming more widely used in many closed landfill sites in the world. Many of existing landfills will be excavated inevitably owing to building the clean environment with the new structures and developing the cities in cramped country. This paper aimed at the introducing the design technology of the trommel screen and its in-site applied performance of the trommel screen system through experiments , which system is under developing by one of the national project and the analysis results of influencing factors to the environment . The result of the theoretical estimation agrees well with the experimental data, so that the sorting system could be able to be applied with the requirements of the purpose of end-items. As a result of the analysis, any hazardous materials including heavy metals met the limitions of the criteria in this experiment. In geotechnical enngineering, it will. desireable to use the sorted soils mixing with another soils in accordance with the requirements of the usages.
