Implementation of the Industrial Hazard Detection System using LoRa Network (LoRa 통신기반 산업재해감지시스템 구현)

  • To protect workers from industrial accidents, IoT hazard detection system using LoRa network was designed and fabricated. LoRa networks can operate with low power consumption, wide coverage, and low usage fees. The hazard detection system consists of a sensor unit, a transceiver module, a LoRa base station, ThingPlug, and a monitoring device. We have designed an optimal risk-determining algorithm that can send information quickly in a working environment. As measured by TTA, the implemented system has been found to be able to deliver the worker's location, ambient temperature, and carbon monoxide density to the administrator through the user interface. The implemented system showed a bit rate of 290bps and a maximum application range of 6 km.

Monitoring of Veterinary Drug Residues in Foods Produced in Korea (국내 유통 식품의 잔류동물용의약품 모니터링)

  • This study was conducted to monitor residues of 10 veterinary drugs in food products. Various veterinary drugs were examined including enrofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, oxolinic acid, amoxicillin, ampicillin, oxytetracycline, tetracycline, chlortetracycline, and doxycycline in beef, pork, egg, chicken, eel, flatfish, and rockfish obtained from 6 different regions (Seoul, Incheon, Daejeon, Gwangju, Daegu, Busan). Residues were detected in 21 (6.5%) samples out of 321 samples. In particular, 2 (1.0%) livestock samples had detected residues among 203 products, and 19 (16.1%) aquaculture samples had residues detected among 118 products. The most frequently detected drug residues in aquaculture products were oxytetracycline and amoxicillin, but the levels were mostly below the MRL (Maximum Residue Limit). In only one flatfish sample, amoxicillin was found at a level higher than the MRL (0.05 mg/kg). In livestock products, residues of most veterinary drugs were not detected. But enrofloxacin was detected in 2 chicken (Korean name: Ogolgae) samples at a higher level than the MRL (0.1 mg/kg as the sum of ciprofloxacin).

  • This study presents an IFC-based information model for standardized and integrated information management system of tunnel monitoring. Information items of tunnel monitoring were extracted from the Tunnel Design Standard of Ministry of Construction and Transportation. Then, the information items were compared with components of IFC 2x Edition3 model. Two main entities are added into the IFC model for generic representing of monitoring devices and data. IfcMonitoringElement which is composed of IfcMonitoringLogger and IfcMonitorinSensor is proposed to represent physical information of data loggers and sensors, and relationship between data logger and sensors. Besides, as an additional resource of IFC model, IfcMonitoringData is provided to express measured data from sensors and warning histories.

  • Based on the possibility theory and the fuzzy set, the Maximum Possibility Estimation method and its applications in kinematic GPS positioning are presented in this paper. Firstly, the principle and the optimal criterion of the Maximum Possibility Estimation method are explained. Secondly, the kinematic GPS positioning model of single epoch single frequency with baseline length constraint is developed. Then, the authors introduce the artificial immune algorithm and use this algorithm to search the global optimum of the Maximum Possibility Estimation model. The results of some examples show that the method is efficient for kinematic GPS positioning.

  • The long term bridge monitoring system in Korea was installed in 1995 at first, and many bridges has been maintained by long term monitoring system. Recently, reliability of data and cost effectiveness has been increased by advanced sensor technology, measuring equipment. However, considering several reference and data on bridge monitoring systems in Korea, various problems of bridge monitoring systems can be found. Therefore, in this study, the state of the art on bridge monitoring systems in Korea were investigated and various problems and solutions for these problems were suggested.

Web-Based Bridge Monitoring System with Wireless Sensor Network Environment (무선센서네트워크 환경의 웹기반 교량모니터링 시스템)

  • In this study, to establish a web-based bridge monitoring system with wireless sensor network environment, we constructed microminiaturized sensor based wireless communication techniques and micro processing, databases for data combination and administration, variable control programs and processors for transferring data by internet. Then those data are measured and analyzed by the constructed bridge monitoring system with wireless sensors. To evaluate the practicability of the bridge monitoring system with wireless sensor, we compared the values measured in the tests with wire sensor under same conditions. The results show that the trend of the data obtained from the monitoring systems with wire sensors and wireless sensors was very similar but the some lost data in the communication process with wireless sensor network environment. And through laboratory and field tests, the effectiveness and the applicability of the proposed methods were verified.

  • As the water distribution system which is one of the critical lifeline system is deteriorated and pipe failures occur frequently, the more efficient pipe monitoring system becomes a critical issue in the water industry. One of the pipe monitoring systems is called "Smart-pipe System" which is permanent, comprehensive and an automated SIM (Structural Integrity Monitoring) system and has superiorities to existing monitoring system. To implement a smart-pipe system on a water distribution system, assessment of its indirect benefit obtaining from smartpipe such as the ratio of preventing water main failures must be preceded. However, only some researches on this field have been performed. In this paper, the concept of smart-pipe system is compared with the current monitoring systems for a water distribution system, and a method to quantify its benefit using the inconvenient time for customers is suggested. The suggested method was applied to a real water distribution system to estimate its applicability and benefit.

  • As bare Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors are very fragile, bare FBG without encapsulation is not properly applied in practical infrastructures directly due to the harsh environment in practical engineering. Steel sleeve packaged FBG strain sensor is widely used in civil engineering. Since FBG senses both strain and temperature simultaneously, for accurate measurement of strain, temperature compensation for FBG strain sensors is indispensable. In this paper, based on the FBG's strain and temperature sensing principles, the temperature compensation techniques for steel sleeve packaged FBG sensors are brought forward. And the experiment of concrete early-age shrinkage monitoring by dual FBG sensors is carried out to test the feasibility of the temperature compensation technique.
