  • The hat is the most flexible human head covering. Almost entirely enveloping the hair, it can be simple, pure, elegant and mysterious. Yet it is frequently a highly decorative form of dress. The hat also takes a part in the extension of the area of art as soft-sculpture. My purpose of this thesis is to present diverse artistic hats with natural images by nontraditional materials and natural resources. The reason why I select nature as them is that it is absolutely the origin of life and art. To develop the innovative hat design, I focus on the material to extend the range of art expression. I observe nontraditional materials such as wire, paper and so on that enhance heterogenetic feeling from natural images. The attempt is made to enhance the visual effect by harmonizing the disharmonious feeling. Natural resources such as moss, orange, feather and so on could be adapted to the hat and applied for unique design, which supplies new expression. Therefore, the harmony of natural images and natural resources could avoid dullness, bestow elegance and polish the unique beauty creation of the hat.

  • In this research, a design guideline of current generating HAT rotor and acceptable field rotor in offshore environment is proposed. To design HAT rotor model, wind mill rotor design principles and turbine theories were applied based on a field HAT rotor experimental data. To verify the compatibility of the rotor design method and to analyze the properties of design factors, 3 rotor models were designed and experimented in a circular water channel. Three rotor models were designed according to different blade numbers and blade shapes. By changing flow velocity, rotor rpm, the rotor power and efficiency were measured and the properties of rotor were estimated. The results can be effectively applied to the design of current generation rotor.

  • The present study proposed to develop a Hanji hat that can protect the body from UV rays and be preferred by consumers. For this purpose, using Hanji dyed by ginkgo leaf extract, we manufactured Hats in 12 designs. The UV blocking rate was determined by putting the hats on a mannequin and measuring the quantity of UV rays penetrating through the hat. In addition, preference for each design was surveyed, and the hat most suitable for the purpose was selected. The results of this study are as follows. 1. The UV blocking rate of the manufactured Hanji hats was over 92% for UVA and 97% for UVB in all of the 12 hats. 2. Among the 12 designs, the UV blocking rate for UVA was highest in 'Design(b)' and 'Design(1)' $(P\leq0.05)$, and the UV blocking rate for UVB was identical in all the designs except 'Design(i)' and 'Design(g)' $(P\leq0.01)$. 3. The effect of UV blocking was highest on the nape of the neck; next, on the brow, the cheeks, the nose and the chin in that order. 4. According to the result of the survey of preference, simple designs such as 'Design(a), (b)' and 'Design(9)' were preferred. In addition, it was found that the design would affect the purchase of a hat marked with a UV blocking index (68%). 5. Based on the results of this research as presented above, 'Design(b)', which showed a high UV blocking effect and was highly preferred, was selected as the most suitable hat for the purpose of this research.
