  • The primary function of the Internet routers is to forward incoming packets toward their final destinations. IP address lookup is one of the most important functions in evaluating router performance since IP address lookup should be performed in wire-speed for the hundred-millions of incoming packets per second. With CIDR, the IP prefixes of routing table have arbitrary lengths, and hence address lookup by exact match is no longer valid. As a result, when packets arrive, routers compare the destination IP addresses of input packets with all prefixes in its routing table and determine the most specific entry among matching entries, and this is called the longest prefix matching. In this paper, based on parallel multiple hashing and prefix grouping, we have proposed a hardware architecture which performs an address lookup with a single memory access.

  • The fast and Precise service for the users request is the most important in the World Wide Web. However, the lest service is difficult due to the rapid increase of the Internet users recently. The Shared Web Caching (SWC) is one of the methods solving this problem. The performance of SWC is highly depend on the hit rate and the hit rate is effected by the memory size, processing speed of the server, load balancing and so on. The conventional load balancing is usually based on the state history of system, but the prediction of the state of the system can be used for the load balancing that will further improve the hit rate. In this study, a Hot Spot Prediction Method (HSPM) has been suggested to improve the throughputs of the proxy. The predicted hot spots, which is the item most frequently requested, should be predicted beforehand. The result show that the suggested method is better than the consistent hashing in the point of the load balancing and the hit rate.

  • This paper proposes a proactive authentication scheme using credentials based on chameleon hashing in MIH environments. There is a proactive authentication structure defined by IEEE 802.21 Security Study Group for the link access in MIH environment. Both schemes based on EAP and on PKI can be applied to such structure, but the former has caused network traffic due to the complicated authentication procedure and the latter has complex structure for managing certificates. The proposed scheme performs the proactive authentication procedure only between a mobile node and a MIH Key Holder by using credentials based on chameleon hashing. Our scheme reduces the network traffic since authentication with the server is unnecessary in MIH environment and PKI structure is not required as well. In addition, the proposed scheme provides secure PFS and PBS features owing to the authenticated Diffie-Hellman key exchange of the chameleon-based credential.

  • Address lookup is one of the most essential functions of the Internet routers and a very important feature in evaluating router performance. Due to the facts that the Internet traffic keeps growing and the number of routing table entries is continuously growing, efficient address-lookup mechanism is indispensable. In recent years, various fast address-lookup schemes have been proposed, but most of those schemes are not practical in terms of the memory size required for routing table and the complexity required in table update In this paper, we have proposed a parallel IP address lookup architecture based on multiple hashing. The proposed scheme has advantages in required memory size, the number of memory accesses, and table update. We have evaluated the performance of the proposed scheme through simulation using data from MAE-WEST router. The simulation result shows that the proposed scheme requires a single memory access for the address lookup of each route when 203kbytes of memory and a few-hundred-entry TCAM are used.

  • Mobile map services using PDA are prevailing because of the rapid developments of techniques of the internet and handhold devices recently. While the volume of spatial data is tremendous and the spatial operations are time-intensive, the PDA has small size memory and a low performance processor. Therefore, the spatial index for PDA should be small size and efficiently filter out the candidate objects of spatial operation as well. This paper proposes a spatial index far PDA called MHF(Multilevel Hashing File). The MHF has simple structure for storage efficiency and uses a hashing technique, which is direct search method, for search efficiency. This paper also designs a compression technique for MBR. which occupies almost 80% of index data in the two dimensional case. We call it HMBR. Although the HMBR technique reduces the MB\ulcorner size to almost a third, it shows good filtering efficiency because of no information loss by quantization in case of small objects that occupy a major portion. Our experimental tests show that the proposed MHF index using HMBR technique is appropriate for PDA in terms of the size of index, the Number of MBR comparisons, the filtering efficiency and the execution time of spatial operations.

  • An IP address lookup scheme has become a critical issue increasingly for high-speed networking techniques due to the advent of IPv6 based on 128bit. In this paper, a novel global IPv6 unicast address lookup scheme is proposed for next generation internet routers. The proposed scheme perform a variable multiple hashing based on prefix grouping. Accordingly, it should not only minimize overflows with the proper number of memory modules, but also reduce a memory size required to organize forwarding tables. It has the fast building and searching mechanisms for forwarding tables during only a single memory access. Besides, it is easy to update forwarding tables incrementally. In the simulation using CERNET routing data as a 6bone test phase, we compared the proposed scheme with a similar scheme using a uniform multiple hashing. As a result, we verified that the number of overflows is reduced by 50% and the size of memory for forwarding tables is shrunken by 15% with 8 tables.

  • User authentication using fingerprint information provides convenience as well as strong security. However, serious problems may occur if fingerprint information stored for user authentication is used illegally by a different person since it cannot be changed freely as a password due to a limited number of fingers. Recently, research in fuzzy fingerprint vault system has been carried out actively to safely protect fingerprint information in a fingerprint authentication system. In addition, research to solve the fingerprint alignment problem by applying a geometric hashing technique has also been carried out. In this paper, we propose the hardware architecture for a geometric hashing based fuzzy fingerprint vault system that consists of the software module and hardware module. The hardware module performs the matching for the transformed minutiae in the enrollment hash table and verification hash table. On the other hand, the software module is responsible for hardware feature extraction. We also propose the hardware architecture which parallel processing technique is applied for high speed processing. Based on the experimental results, we confirmed that execution time for the proposed hardware architecture was 0.24 second when number of real minutiae was 36 and number of chaff minutiae was 200, whereas that of the software solution was 1.13 second. For the same condition, execution time of the hardware architecture which parallel processing technique was applied was 0.01 second. Note that the proposed hardware architecture can achieve a speed-up of close to 100 times compared to a software based solution.

  • Algorithms for mining association rules based on the Apriori algorithm use the hash tree data structure for storing and counting supports of the candidate frequent itemsets and the most part of the execution time is consumed for searching in the hash tree. The DHP(Direct Hashing and Pruning) algorithm makes efforts to reduce the number of the candidate frequent itemsets to save searching time in the hash tree. For this purpose, the DHP algorithm does preparative simple counting supports of the candidate frequent itemsets. At this time, the DHP algorithm uses the direct hash table to reduce the overhead of the preparative counting supports. This paper proposes and evaluates an efficient hashing mechanism for the direct hash table $H_2$ which is for pruning in phase 2 and the hash tree $C_k$, which is for counting supports of the candidate frequent itemsets in all phases. The results showed that the performance improvement due to the proposed hashing mechanism was 82.2% on the maximum and 18.5% on the average compared to the conventional method using a simple mod operation.

  • NIPS(Network Intrusion Prevention System) is in line at the end of the external and internal networks which performed two kinds of action: Signature-based filtering and anomaly detection and prevention-based on self-learning. Among them, a signature-based filtering is well known to defend against attacks. By using signature-based filtering, intrusion prevention system passing a payload of packets is compared with attack patterns which are signature. If match, the packet is discard. However, when there is packet delay, it will increase the required pattern matching time as the number of signature is increasing whenever there is delay occur. Therefore, to ensure the performance of IPS, we needed more efficient pattern matching algorithm for high-performance ISP. To improve the performance of pattern matching the most important part is to reduce the number of comparisons signature rules and the packet whenever the packets arrive. In this paper, we propose an improve signature hashing-based pattern matching method. We use tuple pruning algorithm with Bloom filters, which effectively remove unnecessary tuples. Unlike other existing signature hashing-based IPS, our proposed method to improve the performance of IPS.

  • One of the important performance metrics of the World Wide Web is how fast and precise a request from users will be serviced successfully. Shared Web Caching (SWC) is one of the techniques to improve the performance of the network system. In Shared Web Caching Systems, the key issue is on deciding when and where an item is cached, and also how to transfer the correct and reliable information to the users quickly. Such SWC distributes the items to the proxies which have sufficient capacity such as the processing time and the cache sizes. In this study, the Hot Spot Prediction Algorithm (HSPA) has been suggested to improve the consistent hashing algorithm in the point of the load balancing, hit rate with a shorter response time. This method predicts the popular hot spots using a prediction model. The hot spots have been patched to the proper proxies according to the load-balancing algorithm. Also a simulator is developed to utilize the suggested algorithm using PERL language. The computer simulation result proves the performance of the suggested algorithm. The suggested algorithm is tested using the consistent hashing in the point of the load balancing and the hit rate.
