This paper presents an integrated procedure to predict the temperature and moisture distributions in hardening concrete considering the effects of temperature and aging. The degree of hydration is employed as a fundamental parameter to evaluate hydro-thermal-mechanical properties of hardening concrete. The temperature history and temperature distribution in hardening concrete is evaluated by combining cement hydration model with three-dimensional finite element thermal analysis. On the other hand, the influences of both self-desiccation and moisture diffusion on variation of relative humidity are considered. The self-desiccation is evaluated by using a semi-empirical expression with desorption isotherm and degree of hydration. The moisture diffusivity is expressed as a function of degree of hydration and current relative humidity. The proposed procedure is verified with experimental results and can be used to evaluate the early-age crack of hardening concrete.
A simplified numerical procedure to predict drawbead restraining forces(DBRF) has been developed based on the hybrid membrane/bending method which superposes bending effects onto membrane solutions. As a semi-analytical method, the new approach is especially useful to analyze the effects of various constitutive parameters. The present model can accommodate general anisotropic yield functions along with non-linear isotropic-kinematic hardening under the plane strain condition. For the preliminary results, several sensitivity analyses for the process and material effects such as friction, drawbead depth, hardening behavior including the Bauschinger effect and yield surface shapes on the DBRF are carried out.

This paper investigates the relationship between strain hardening exponents(n) of various marine materials and fatigue crack retardation effect after applying single overload. Using the four different sheet materials, following results are obtained. (1) The fatigue crack propagation rate after applying single overload was retarded and the effects of this retardation were closely related to the strain hardening exponent. (2) The larger the strain hardening exponents were, the more were the fatigue crack retardation effects after applying single overload. (3) The considerable crack closure with the applying of a overload was observed in matrals with large strain hardening exponent. When n is smaller than 0.1, the fatigue crack retardation effects are negligible. On the contrary, when n is larger than 0.2 the fatigue crack retardation effects are significant.
The precipitation of solutes is a major cause of irradiation hardening and embrittlement limiting the service life of reactor pressure vessel (RPV) steels. Impurities play a significant role in the formation of precipitation in RPV materials. In this study, the effects of carbon on cluster formation and irradiation hardening were investigated in an RPV alloy Fe-1.35Mn-0.75Ni using C and Fe ions irradiation at 290 ℃. Nanoindentation results showed that C ion irradiation led to less hardening below 1.0 dpa, with hardening continuing to increase gradually at higher doses, while it was saturated under Fe ion irradiation. Atom probe tomography revealed a broad size distribution of Ni-Mn clusters under Fe ion irradiation, contrasting a narrower size distribution of small Ni-Mn clusters under C ion irradiation. Further analysis indicated the influence of carbon on the cluster formation, with solute-precipitated defects dominating under C ion irradiation but interstitial clusters dominating under Fe ion irradiation. Simulations suggested that carbon significantly affected solute nucleation, with defect clusters displaying smaller size and higher density as carbon concentration increased. The higher hardening at doses above 1.0 dpa was attributed to a substantial increase in the number density of defect clusters when carbon was present in the matrix.

The microstructual refinement process of Al-5Cr-2Zr alloys mechanical alloying 30h can be divided in five stages ; initial stage, welding predomminance stage, spherical partical formation stage, convolution welding predominance stage, and steady state. The rate of structural of aluminium splats was roughly logarithmic with processing time ; ${\in}$=k/0.78 ln(1+0.0028t). The age hardening in rapidly solidified Al-5Cr-2Zr alloys is ascribed to the coherency and dispersion hardening. Coherency hardening is occurred by matastable cubic Al3Zr precipitates in Al-Cr-Zr alloys. Dispersion hardening after mechanical alloying is attributed to the finely-dispersed $Al_2O_3$ and $Al_4C_3$ in Al-5Cr-2Zr alloys.

The effects of polymer-cement ratio and shrinkage-reducing agent content on the durability characteristics of ultrarapid-hardening polymer-modified mortars using redispersible polymer powder are examined. As a result, the flexural and tensile strengths of the ultrarapid-hardening polymer-modified mortars using redispersible polymer powder tend to increase with increasing polymer-cement ratio, and tend to decrease with increasing shrinkage-reducing agent content. However, the compressive strength of the ultrarapid-hardening polymer-modified mortars using redispersible polymer powder decrease with increasing polymer-cement ratio and shrinkage-reducing agent content. And, water absorption and mass change of chemicals resistance of ultrarapid-hardening polymer-modified mortars using redispersible polymer powder tend to decrease with increasing polymer-cement ratio.

In recent years, industrial demands for superior mechanical properties of powder metallurgy steel components with low cost are rapidly growing. Sinter hardening that combines sintering and heat treatment in continuous one step is cost-effective. The cooling rate during the sinter hardening process dominates material microstructures, which finally determine the mechanical properties of the parts. This research establishes a numerical model of the relation between various cooling rates and microstructures in a sinter hardenable material. The evolution of a martensitic phase in the treated microstructure during end quench tests using various cooling media of water, oil, and air is predicted from the cooling rate, which is influenced by cooling conditions, using the finite element method simulations. The effects of the cooling condition on the microstructure of the sinter hardening material are found. The obtained limiting size of the sinter hardening part is helpful to design complicate shaped components.
This study has been performed to investigate into some effects of the output power and traverse speed of laser beam on the microstructures, hardness and fatigue resistance of the ductile iron surface-hardened by $CO_2$ laser defocussed beam. Optical micrographs have shown that with increasing the output power and decreasing the traverse speed, the martensite was coarsened and some retained austenite were appeared in ductile iron. The microstructures of hardening zone were composed of bull's eye and some nodular graphite dissolved structures by the effect of self quenching. Fatigue fracture characteristics of ductile iron have appeared in the high stress and low stress ranges. The fracture initiated at nodular graphites in the surface hardened layer due to the stress concentration caused by a notch effect. The interior graphite nodules were broken away or popped out during crack propagation. Fatigue test has shown that values of fatigue strength considerably increased with increasing output power at a given traverse speed.

In order to evaluate spring-back behavior in automotive sheet forming processes, a panel shape idealized as a SS-rail has been investigated. After spring-back kas been predicted fer SS-rails using the finite element analysis, results has been compared with experimental measurements for three automotive sheets. To account for hardening behavior such as the Bauschinger and transient effects in addition to anisotropic behavior, the combined isotropic-kinematic hardening law based on the Chaboche type single-surface model and a recently developed non-quadratic anisotropic yield function have been utilized, respectively.

In this study, effects of fluosilicate salt based chemical admixture(MZ) on the watertightness and hardening properties of concrete were investigated. Mix proportions for experiment were modulated at 0.55 of water to cement ratio and addition amount of MZ to $2.0\%$ at intervals $0.5\%$. Compressive strength, porosity and microstructure of hardened concrete cured at several days were executed to evaluate watertightness and hardening properties. It is ascertained that watertightness and hardening properties of concrete could be improved by an adequate addition of fluosilicate salt based chemical admixture.
