The recently introduced castable glass ceramics incorporate properties characteristic of natural teeth and they are regarded as an ideal material to restore lost tooth structure. The purpose of this study was to compare the marginal fit of castable ceramic crown with that of the metal-ceramic crown in the process of heat treatment. Two master dies for castable ceramic crowns and metal-ceramic crowns were fabricated from being cast with the base metal. Each master die was duplicated with addition silicone and hard stone. Ten castable ceramic crowns were made on each hard stone die and their marginal openings were measured three times first, after casting; second, after ceramming; third, after shading. The other ten metal-ceramic crowns were made on each hard stone die and their marginal openings were measured three times : first, after casting; second, after degassing; third, after porcelain veneering. Each crown was seated on its master die with the constant force delivered by loading jig. And then, marginal openings were measured on four locations by optical projector at X50 magnification. The results were as follows: 1. The mean marginal openings of castable ceramic crowns were $31.1{\pm}12.7{\mu}m$ after casting; $44.6{\pm}12.8{\mu}m$ after ceramming; $51.2{\pm}16.8{\mu}m$ after shading. 2. The mean marginal openings of the metal-ceramic crowns were $26.2{\pm}13.8{\mu}m$ after casting; $29.8{\pm}10.3{\mu}m$ after degassing; $38.0{\pm}14.5{\mu}m$ after porcelain veneering. 3. There was significant increase in the marginal opening of castable ceramic crowns after ceramming, while metal-ceramic crowns sho(wed significant increase after porcelain veneering (p<0.05). 4. Marginal fit of metal-ceramic crown was better than that of castable ceramic crown (p<0.01).
The abrasion and impact wear resistance were investigated on the hardfacing weld dispersed with the recycled hard metal(HM). The HM was composed of the tungsten carbide(WC) reinforced metal matrix composite. The cored wire filled with the 35 wt.% HM and 06 wt.% of the alloying element, Fe75Mn7C(FeMnC), was used for the gas metal arc(GMA) welding. The FeMnC addition to the 35 wt.% HM did not improve the abrasion wear property since the amount of the tungsten carbide formed was decreased with respect to the FeMnC amount. However, the 6 wt.% FeMnC addition to the 35 wt.% HM exhibited the better impact wear resistance than the hardfacing weld by the 40 wt.% HM.
New glass ceramics were investigated for the application as substrates to be used in hard disk devices. The glass system to precipitate lithium di-silicate was studied so as to optimize the composition to realize very high surface flatness. The addition of small amount of several metal oxides with high valences had very drastic effects on the microstructure, because they played a role of crystallization agents, and consequently it determined surface flatness even after the polishing process. The possible mechanism changes of crystal growth due to the addition of metal oxides were discussed in relation to the final micro-texture development. The glass ceramics with very high surface flatness(Ra=7.1 $\AA$) was obtained by the addition of the mixture of $P-2O_5 \;and \;MoO_3$ as crystallization agents.

In Na-base Battery for ESS, ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ and metal bonding was used to prevent direct reaction between electrolyte and electrode. The hard metal was metalized at $1600^{\circ}C$ in a flowing hydrogen gas for high bonding strength. In this study, instead of hard metal metalizing, Ni was plated on ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ by electroless Ni plating technique and then bonded with metal. To enhance the bonding strength, surface of ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ was treated with $H_3PO_4$. The effects of strength and leakage of joining as a function of acid treatment time on ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ are described.
This paper proposes a classifier of music genre using time delay neural network(TDNN) fur an audio data retrieval systems. The classifier considers eight kinds of genres such as Blues, Country, Hard Core, Hard Rock, Jazz, R&B(Soul), Techno and Trash Metal. The comparative unit to classify the genres is a melody between bars. The melody pattern is extracted based un snare drum sound which represents the periodicity of rhythm effectively. The classifier is constructed with the TDNN and uses fourier transformed feature vector of the melody as input pattern. We experimented the classifier on eighty training data from ten musics for each genres and forty test data from five musics for each genres, and obtained correct classification rates of 92.5% and 60%, respectively.

The problem of Metal Area Segmentation (MAS) in X-ray CT images is a very hard task because of metal artifacts. This research features a practical yet effective method for MAS in X-ray CT images that exploits both projection image and reconstructed image spaces. We employ the Relevant Neighbor Area (RNA) idea [1] originally developed for projection image inpainting in order to create a novel feature in the projection image space that distinctively represents metal and near-metal pixels with opposite signs. In the reconstructed result of the feature image, application of a simple thresholding technique provides accurate segmentation of metal areas due to nice separation of near-metal areas from metal areas in its histogram.

There are four main components of the CMP process: polishing pad, slurry, elastic supporter, and pad conditioner. The polishing pad is an essential component to the reproducibility of polishing uniformity in CMP process. However, the polishing pad in recently using metal CMP raised the several points of high cost caused by the increase of cycle time and the many usage of slurry. It is necessary to develop the novel polishing pad which would lead the cost reduction by the higher pad life-cycle, minimized cycle time and lower slurry usage. The characteristics of polishing pad were studied on the effects of different sets of the Polishing pad, which can be applied to metal chemical mechanical polishing process for global planarization of multilevel interconnection structure. The main purpose of this experiment is cost reduction by the increase of pad life-time, the decrease of cycle time and the lower usage of slurry through the specific hard porous structured pad design. It is confirmed that the novel polishing pad made the slurry usage decrease to 60% as well as the pad life-time increase twice with the 25% improvement of removal rate. The polishing time could be decreased and it also helped the cycle time to diminish. It can be expected that this results will help both the process throughput and the device yield to be improved.

Thermal CVD method is in general used for the fabrication of TiC/$Al_2O_3$-coated carbide tools. The growth of TiC layer and the coating morphology depended on the chemical composition of the hard metal substrate on which the tool properties were strongly influenced. TiC-coated layer was grown by the diffusion of carbon from the substrate, whereas the growth of $Al_2O_3$ layer was unrelated to the composition of substrate. In the nitride hard coatings of Zr, Nb and Mo metals deposited on high speed steel substrate by magnetron sputtering, the reactivity of the metal elements was decreased with increasing group number in one period of the periodic system. The hard material films exhibited the highest adhesion with the chemical composition of stoichiometry or substoichiometry. The critical load as a measure of adhesion was evaluated using scratch tester. The CVD tools indicated the values of 80 and 40N in the coated layers with proper bonding to the substrate and with $\eta$ phase of 1$\mu\textrm{m}$ in the interface respectively, but the nitride films prepared by sputtering of PVD showed only the values between 10 and 20N.

Chipping is an unavoidable phenomenon in the slot grinding process of hard and brittle materials. However, it should be reduced for the improvement of surface integrity in the manufacture of optical and semiconductor components. Electrolytic In-process Dressing (ELID) technique for metal bonded superabrasive grinding wheel has been developed for mirror surface grinding of hard and brittle materials. Electrically dressed wheel surface has sharply exposed abrasives and results in lower grinding force, higher grinding efficiency in grinding. The paper deals with a newly developed method for slot grinding using ELID and was implemented to improve grooved surface quality and decreases chipping size on the edge of the groove. As a result, we accomplished chipping-free grooves and obtained the clear ground surfaces on glass and WC.
