Since the wireless technologies based on the IP have been developed recently, a variety of mobile services has been proposed. For broadcasting services to utilize network resources efficiently, there is a need to support handover of multicast traffic in mobile networks. In this paper, we add a network function block to solve the tunnel convergence problem, and propose a new fast handover scheme to reduce handover latency for PMIPv6 networks with multicast function. With the simulation result, we show that our fast handover scheme has better performance than the draft in the IETF in the viewpoint of handover latency and multicast service disruption.
In this paper, we propose a method of monitoring traffic and analyzing information of handover in mobile IPv6 networks. Our proposed method analyzes handover latency through monitoring packets at routers without installing monitoring applications at mobilenodes. For this purpose, we employ a flow-based traffic monitoring standard called IPFIX to perform the traffic measurement function the packets at the routers. Therefore, our method is useful in that we could easily obtain information regarding handover of mobile nodes by only monitoring traffic at the routers. In order to verify the proposed method, we carried out experiments in a real 802.11-based mobile IPv6 network testbed. From our experimental results, it was shown that the calculated handover latency for uploading traffic is accurate with less accuracy of analyzing the handover latency for downloading traffic.
Since the Wibro service realize mobile network on the public, it has been considered that it is not enough to support real time service at vehicular speed. The standard Fast Mobile IPv6 Handover Protocol using HMIPv6 may guarantee seamless service as long as the Mobile Node moves in the same domain MAP however it does not regard fast handover over inter-MAP domain. Thus Macro Mobility Handover in HMIPv6 was proposed to reduce handover latency in inter-MAP domain. But it is still not enough to support real-time service. So we propose an Improved FHMIPv6 over 802.16e network to reduce the overall handover latency. We embedded Layer 3 handover messages of the FHMIPv6 into the Layer 2 handover messages. So the MN is able to $^-nish$ overall handover procedure earlier in our scheme. The numerical results show the performance of IFHMIPv6 has improved about 32% in comparison with FHMIPv6.

Recently, Portable Internet being standardized provides fast movement with wider service range than wireless LAN does. If Portable Internet service starts, many people will use Portable Internet and thus wireless traffic is going to increase. In Portable Internet, it is important to reduce handover latency to provide user with satisfactory service when handover occurs. In IEEE 802.16e, MSS sends its own security context information to one Base Station which it will move to reduce handover latency. But this is not suitable in the situation that the BS doesn't know the security context. To reduce handover latency of proactive caching method that is to send security context information to adjacency Base Stations in advance has been proposed by[4]. In this paper we propose effective traffic management algorithm to reduce signaling network traffic caused by proactive caching method.

Wireless mesh networks have been studied as the next generation technology to solve problems of conventional wireless networks. Particularly, mobile WiMAX based wireless mesh networks are noticed due to many advantages. In this paper, we propose a layer-2 handover scheme for mobile WiMAX based wireless mesh networks. A layer-2 handover scheme based on mobile WiMAX causes many handover failures over mobile WiMAX based wireless mesh networks because it does not consider the characteristics of wireless mesh networks. The proposed scheme does not bring about packet losses achieving lower handover latency than a conventional handover scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves loss-free and low handover latency during the layer-2 handover.

This paper proposes a handover extension scheme to support effectively real-time services in Mobile IPv6 networks. The proposed scheme could simplify the handover procedure by using the proposed reserved addresses scheme so that it could reduce considerably handover latency in Mobile IPv6. The performance analysis shows that the handover latency in the proposed scheme could be reduced by minimum 1 second, maximum above 3 second compared to that of pure Mobile IPv6. Accordingly the proposed scheme could be considered as a strong candidate to support real-time services like VoIP in future network based on Mobile IPv6.

In this paper, we propose a proxy-based fast handover scheme to improve a performance in the mobile WiMAX network using PMIPv6 for supporting the network-layer mobility. In our proposed scheme, we define three link-layer messages and one network-layer message to reduce the handover latency, and propose a buffering mechanism to minimize packet loss and solve out-of-sequence problem. A performance evaluation indicates that the proposed scheme works more efficiently than PMIPv6 in terms of the handover latency and packet loss.

In this paper, we compare the performance of proposals for route optimization handover, which provides optimized communication to mobile node, presented in IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force). For comparison, we consider the architecture with two MAGs (Mobile Access Gateways) and single LMA (Local Mobility Anchor), and analyze the signaling cost, handover latency, and packet loss. Evaluation results show that they are changed depending on the involved component, the number of route optimization messages and performance factor that each proposal targets.

In Mobile IPv6 handover should be followed by RO(Route Optimization) to support direct communication between a MN(Mobile Node) and CN(Correspondent Node). For this RR MIPv6 must perform RR(Return Routability) procedure before BU(Binding Update) to CN. The Fast Handover for MIPv6(FMIPv6) also performs the RR test for MN to communicate with CN directly. However, Return Routability test has long latency resulting in handover delay in MIPv6. This paper proposes the method to reduce the handover deay by reducing RO latency in FastMobile IPv6.

In a network-based approach such as Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6), the serving network controls the mobility management on behalf of a Mobile Node (MN), thereby eliminating a MN from any mobility-related signaling. Although PMIPv6 is being standardized by the IETF NetLMM WG, PMIPv6 still suffers from a lengthy handover latency and the on-the-fly packet loss during a handover. Therefore, this paper presents an enhanced fast handover scheme for PMIPv6. The proposed handover scheme uses the Neighbor Discovery message of IPv6 to reduce the handover latency and packet buffering at the Mobile Access Gateway (MAG) to avoid the on-the-fly packet loss during a handover. In addition, it uses an additional packet buffering at the Local Mobility Anchor (LMA) to solve the packet ordering problem. We evaluate the performance of the proposed handover scheme using both analytical model and simulation. The numerical analysis shows that the proposed scheme has a relatively shorter handover latency. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme could avoid the on-the-fly packet loss and ensure the packet sequence.
