  • This paper proposes the improved handoff mechanism for IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs. When a wireless mobile node moves out of the coverage of its currently associated AP(Access Point) and needs to be re-associated with a new AP, a handoff procedure is initiated. Channel scanning process during a handoff procedure occupies over 90% of total handoff latency. Long latency leads to many packet losses and service discontinuity, which degrades wireless network performance. This paper describes about the new mechanism to improve handoff performance by skipping channel scanning during a handoff procedure. In oerder for that, acquires neighboring AP information such as its address, location, channel number in use, the number of associated nodes before handoff, and delivers the information to its associated mobile nodes. The mobile nodes can reduce handoff latency and perform more exact handoff using the delivered AP information. We have conducted simulations to analyze our proposal's performance and confirmed that handoff latency and the number of handoff occurrences are decreased.

  • CCFH(Candidatecasting Fast Handoff) algorithm excels the performance of existing fast handoff schemes using multicasting in terms of handoff latency and B/W efficiency. The scheme uses L2 information(BSSID) at Wireless LAN and starts multicasting before L2 handoff. So it can reduce L3 handoff latency. At this article, we would show that Candidatecasting Fast Handoff Scheme is clearly new scheme using L2 information and has the good performance.

  • In this paper we analyze the performance of the low latency pre-registration handoff method of mobile IP by computer simulation. Packet losses and delays are evaluated in terms of system utilization. Foreign agents that participate in the handoff process can be modeled as queues representing input and output ports. Therefore, we propose an analytical model of pre-registration handoff by using open queueing network model. Simulation results are shown for validating analytical estimates.

  • Mobility support for mobile networks will be important to minimize the packet overhead, to optimize routing, to reduce handoff latency, and to reduce the volume of handoff signals. Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) and Hierarchical MIPv6 (HMIPv6) are one of mobility management protocols (MMPs) that provides network layer mobility over all access technologies. However, the communication quality of these candidates is severely degraded during handoffs. As another way to improve the handoff performance of a mobile network by conventional MMPs such as MIPv6 and HMIPv6, we propose a Low Latency Handoff Scheme (LLHS) combining Fast MIPv6 (FMIPv6) with HMIPv6 extension with buffering function, in which Mobility Anchor Points (MAPs) buffer packets destined to the Mobile Routers (MRs) or MNs within a mobile network during handoffs. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme reduces transmission delay and packet loss in UDP communication.

  • Recently, wireless LAN circumstance is being widely deployed in Public spots. Many People use Portable equipments such as PDA and laptop computer for multimedia applications, and also demand of mobility support is increasing. However, handoff latency is inevitably occurred between both APs when clients move from one AP to another. To reduce handoff latency. in this paper, we suggest WFH(Weighted Frequent Handoff) using effective data structure. WFH improves cache hit ratio using a new cache replacement algorithm considering the movement pattern of users. It also reduces unessential duplicate traffics. Our algorithm uses FHR(Frequent Handoff Region) that can change pre-authentication lesion according to QoS based user level, movement Pattern and Neighbor Graph that dynamically captures network movement topology.

  • In Mobile IP-enabled wireless LAN (WLAN), packet flows are corrupted due to the handoff of a mobile node (MN) at the link and network layers, which results in burst packet losses and can cause temporary buffer underflow in a streaming client at the MN. This transient behavior hurts time-sensitive streaming media applications severely. Among many suggestions to address this handoff problem, few studies are concerned with empirical issues regarding the practical validation of handoff options on the time-sensitive streaming media applications. In this paper, targeting seamless streaming over Mobile IP-enabled WLAN, we introduce a seamless media streaming framework that estimates accurate pre-buffering level to compensate the handoff latency. In addition, we propose a link-layer (L2) assisted seamless media streaming system as a preliminary version of this framework. The proposed system is designed to reduce the handoff latency and to overcome the playback disruption from an implementation viewpoint. A packet buffering and forwarding mechanism with L2 trigger is implemented to reduce the handoff latency and to eliminate burst packet losses generated during the handoff. A pre-buffering adjustment is also performed to compensate the handoff latency. The experimental results show that the proposed approach eliminates packet losses during the handoff and thus verify the feasibility of seamless media streaming over Mobile IP-enabled WLAN.

  • By providing ubiquitous Internet connectivity, wireless networks offer more convenient ways for users to surf the Internet. However, wireless networks encounter more technological challenges than wired networks, such as bandwidth, security problems, and handoff latency. Thus, this paper proposes new technologies to solve these problems. First, a Security Access Gateway (SAG) is proposed to solve the security issue. Originally, mobile terminals were unable to process high security calculations because of their low calculating power. SAG not only offers high calculating power to encrypt the encryption demand of SAG's domain, but also helps mobile terminals to establish a multiple safety tunnel to maintain a secure domain. Second, Robust Header Compression (RoHC) technology is adopted to increase the utilization of bandwidth. Instead of Access Point (AP), Access Gateway (AG) is used to deal with the packet header compression and de-compression from the wireless end. AG's high calculating power is able to reduce the load on AP. In the original architecture, AP has to deal with a large number of demands by header compression/de-compression from mobile terminals. Eventually, wireless networks must offer users "Mobility" and "Roaming". For wireless networks to achieve "Mobility" and "Roaming," we can use Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) technology. Nevertheless, such technology might cause latency. Furthermore, how the security tunnel and header compression established before the handoff can be used by mobile terminals handoff will be another great challenge. Thus, this paper proposes to solve the problem by using Early Binding Updates (EBU) and Security Access Gateway (SAG) to offer a complete mechanism with low latency, low handoff mechanism calculation, and high security.

  • The development of multimedia applications has followed the development of high-speed networks. By improving the performance of mobile devices, it is possible to provide high-transfer-speed broadband and seamless mobile multicasting services between indoor and outdoor environments. Multicasting services support efficient group communications. However, mobile multicasting services have two constraints: tunnel convergence and handoff latency. In order to solve these problems, many protocols and handoff methods have been studied. In this paper, we propose inter local mobility anchor (inter-LMA) optimized handoff model for mobile multicasting services in proxy mobility IPv6 based (PMIPv6-based) networks. The proposed model removes the tunnel convergence issue and reduces the router processing costs. Further, it the proposed model allows for the execution of fast handoff operations with adaptive transmission mechanisms. In addition, the proposed scheme exhibits low packet delivery costs and handoff latency in comparison with existing schemes and ensures fast handoff when moving the inter-LMA domain.

  • Existing Cellular IP increases the network traffic load, packet loss and handoff latency because of duplicate packet. In this paper, we propose using a Combined Cache that unites a pasing cache with a routing cache and a Improved Adaptive Semi-soft handoff that minimizes to occur the duplicate packet. As a computer simulation, we consider packet loss, handoff latency and traffic load in network. In proportion the number of nodes, mobile hosts and downlinks of node in access network increased, the proposed method is largely improved in comparison with existing Cellular If that uses semi-soft handoff.
