The use of fossil fuels is steadily increasing. The thermal power generation industry uses a lot of energy and emits a large amount of greenhouse gases. On the other hand, a desulfurization facility can be installed to remove sulfur content during boiler combustion process of the power plant. Dry desulfurized gypsum generated from dry desulfurization facilities is suitable as a $CO_2$ absorbing material due to the presence of CaO. In this study, the carbonation properties of dry desulfurized gypsum were investigated by carbonizing dry desulfurized gypsum via mixing with water and stirring. As a result of microstructural, XRD and thermal analyses of the carbonized dry desulfurized gypsum, the carbonation age was found to be suitable for 16 h. Dry desulfurized gypsum absorbs about 16% of $CO_2$ per unit weight.
Statement of problem: Die materials require abrasion resistance, dimensional stability with time, and high surface wettability for adequate material properties. Wear of gypsum materials is a significant problem in the fabrication of accurately fitting cast prosthetic devices. So It has been recommended that the use of die hardener before carving or burnishing of the wax pattern. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the abrasion resistance and surface microhardness(Knoop) with 3 commonly used gypsum die materials(MG Crystal Rock, Super plumstone, GC $FUJIROCK^{(R)}$ EP) with and without the application of 2 die hardeners. Material and methods: Three die materials were evaluated for abrasion resistance and surface microhardness after application of 2 die hardeners(Die hardener and Stone die & plaster hardener). Thirty specimens of each gypsum material were fabricated using an impression of resin die(Pattern resin; GC Corporation, Japan) with 1-mm high ridges, sloped 90 degrees. Gypsum materials were mixed according to manufacturer's recommendations and allowed to set 24 hours before coating. Specimens were arbitrary assigned to 1 of 3 treatment subgroups (n=10/subgroup): no treatment(control), coated with Die hardener, and coated with Stone die & plaster hardener. Abrasion resistance(measured by weight loss) was evaluated using device in 50g mass perpendicular to the ridges. Knoop hardness was determined by loading each specimen face 5 times for 15 seconds with a force of 50g. A scanning electron microscope was used to evaluate the surface of specimens in each treatment subgroup. Conclusions: The obtained results were as follows: 1. 3 types of die stone evaluated in this study did not show significant differences in surface hardness and abrasive resistance(P<.05). 2. In the abrasive resistance test, there were no significant differences between GC $FUJIROCK^{(R)}$ EP and MG Crystal Rock with or without 2 die hardener(P<.05). 3. Super plumstone treated with Stone die & plaster hardener showed increased wear loss(P<.05) 4. Die hardener coatings used in this study decreased the surface hardness of the gypsum material(P<.05).
To improve the utilization rate of construction waste as mine backfilling materials, this paper investigated the feasibility of using recycled powder as mine paste backfilling cementitious material, and studied the pozzolanic activity of recycled construction waste powder. In this study, alkali-calcium-sulfur served as the activation principle and an orthogonal test plan was performed to analyze the impact of the early strength agent, quick lime, and gypsum on the pozzolanic activity of the recycled powder. Our results indicated that in descending order, early strength agent > quick lime > gypsum affected the strength of the backfilling paste with recycled powder as a cementitious material during early phases. The strength during late phases was affected by, in descending order, quick lime > gypsum > early strength agent. Using setting time and early compressive strength as an analysis index as well as an extreme difference analysis, it was found that the optimal ratio of recycled powder cementitious material for mine paste backfilling was recycled powder:quick lime:gypsum:early strength agent at 78%:10%:8%:4%. X-ray diffraction analysis and scanning electron microscope were used to show that the hydration products of recycled powder cementitious material at the initial stages were mainly CH and ettringite. As hydration time increased, more and more recycled powder was activated. It mainly became calcium silicate hydrate, calcium aluminate hydrate, etc. In summary, recycled powder exhibited potential pozzolanic activities. When activated, it could replace cementitious materials to be used in mine backfill.

The purpose of this study is to find ways of recycling a great amount of gypsum as by-product from the manufacture of phosphate fertilizer. For the purpose, this researcher investigated physical properties of light weight Porous material using waste gypsum and a foaming agent, Sodium n-dodecyl Sulfate to utilize it as a interior material of construction. To determine such properties, the study examined pore size distribution and pore rate in accordance with contents of Sodium n-dodecyl Sulfate added. Then expanded vermiculite as light-weight aggregate was also added, when pore size distribution, pore rate and sound absorption rate were surveyed and measured.
In the present study, radiation shielding and protection ability of prepared Flyash-lime-Gypsum (FaLG) bricks has been studied in terms of energy exposure build up factors and dose parameters. The energy exposure build up factors of Flyash-lime-Gypsum (FaLG) bricks have been calculated for the energy range of 0.015 MeV-15 MeV and for penetration depth upto 40 mfp directly using a new and simplified Piecewise Linear Spline Interpolation Method (PLSIM). In this new method, the calculations of G.P fitting parameters are not required. The verification and accuracy of this new method has been checked by comparing the results of exposure build up factor for NBS concrete calculated using present method with the results obtained by using G.P fitting method. Further, the relative dose distribution and reduced exposure dose rate for various radioactive isotopes without any shielding material and with Flyash-lime-Gypsum (FaLG) bricks have been calculated in the energy range of 59.59-1332 keV. On the basis of the obtained results, it has been reported that the prepared Flyash-lime-Gypsum (FaLG) bricks possess satisfactory radiation shielding properties and can be used as environmentally safe storage facilities for low level nuclear waste.
N.B.R. latex was used as the admixture in order to improve the various properties of gypsum plaster which is widely used as the construction material. The influences of N.B.R. latex on the hydration of gypsum plaster were studied. The results obtained are summerized as follows; 1. The water/gypsum plaster ratio is decreased wth increasing amounts of surfactant (P.O.E. Nonyl Phenol Ether) as the additive. 2. It is the pore of large size (${\gg}$7500A) that is mainly decreased with increasing amounts of surfactant. 3. With the small amount of surfactant as the additive, the hydration was slightly retarded, but was gradually recovered with increasing amounts of surfactant, and their heat of liberation after 20 hours were nearly same.

A lab-scale batch test was conducted to develop capping materials to reduce the sediment phosphorus in the stagnant water zone of Gyeongancheon in Paldang Lake. The mean grain size(Mz) of sediment in the investigated area was 7.7 ${\phi}$, which is very fine, and the contents of organic carbon($C_{org}$) was 2.4%, which is very high. For the phosphorous release experiment to select the optimal capping material, sand layer, powder-gypsum($CaSO_4{\cdot}2H_2O$), granule-gypsum, complex layer(gypsum+sand) and the control were compared and evaluated in the 150 L reactor for 45 days. In case of the capping with the sand, it was found that the phosphorous from the sediment could be reduced by around 50%. However, it was found that this caused the reduction of the dissolved oxygen in the water column(by less than 3 mg/L) due to the resuspension of sediment and the organic matter decomposition that comes from the generation of $CH_4$ gas in the 1 cm of the sand layer. Therefore, it is likely that the sand layer has to be thickener in case of the sand capping. Powder-gypsum and granule-Gypsum reduced phosphorous release by more than 80%. However, the concentration of ${SO_4}^{2-}$ in the water column increased, making it difficult to apply it to the drinking water protection zone. We developed Fe-Gypsum and $SiO_2$-gypsum materials to reduce the solubility of ${SO_4}^{2-}$. Powder-Gypsum creates the interception film that does not have any aperture on the sediment layer when it is combined with the water. However phosphorous release caused by the generation of $CH_4$ gas may happen at a time when the gypsum layer has the crack. Capping through the complex layer(granule-Gypsum+sand(1 cm)) found to be suitable for the drinking water protection zone because it was effective to prevent phosphorus release. Moreover, this leads to the lower solubility from the concentration of ${SO_4}^{2-}$ into the water column than the powder-Gypsum and granule-Gypsum. The addition of gypsum($CaSO_4{\cdot}2H_2O$) into the sediment can reduce the progress of methanogensis because fast early diagenesis and sufficient supply of ${SO_4}^{2-}$ to the sediment, stimulate the SRB(sulfate reducing bacteria) highly.
This study investigated effects of absorbent gypsum board in the ceiling on low-frequency heavyweight floor impact sound through sound absorption coefficient and floor impact sound measurement. The sound absorption coefficients were measured with sound absorbent gypsum board, glass wool on gypsum board, and a double panel absorbent gypsum board (absorbent gypsum board + glass wool + absorbent gypsum board). Result showed that the absorbent gypsum board had sound absorption coefficient of 0.1 ~ 0.7 from 200 and 630 Hz octave band. The sound absorption coefficient was increased in all frequency range by adding glass wool. Additional absorbent gypsum board increased sound absorption coefficient up to 250 Hz octave band, but decreased over 250 Hz. Heavyweight floor impact sounds were measured in test building for three materials above, gypsum board, and bare slab. Result showed that glass wool on gypsum board and a double panel absorbent gypsum board reduced by 3 dB ~ 4 dB (single number quantity) heavyweight floor impact sound. Comparing with bare slab condition, floor impact sound reduction was mainly found from 125 Hz to 500 Hz octave band, and the maximum reduction was shown in the 250 Hz octave band.
20% of total energy use to sustain temperature of building inside. In this reasons, researchers effort to improve the thermal insulation capacity with new wall system. Using appropriate materials and consisting new wall system should considered in energy saving design. OSB(Oriented strand board), Larch lining board used to consist wall system. $2{\sim}6$ Larch lining board has tongue & groove shape for preventing moisture. Comparing with gypsum board and green timber lining board as interior sheathing material, temperature difference of Green timber wall system was bigger than temperature difference of gypsum board wall system. This aspects indicate that Green timber wall system was revealed higher thermal insulation property than gypsum board wall system. Gypsum board portion transfer heat easily because temperature difference gradient of gypsum board wall system was smaller than OSB wall system. Total temperature variation shape of G-4-S and G-6-S show similar model but, temperature variation shape in green timber wall portion assume a new aspect. The purpose of this study was that possibility of thermal insulation variation and new composition of wall system identify to improve thermal insulation performance. In the temperature case, this study shows possibility of improving thermal insulation performance. Humidity, sunshine and wind etc. should considered to determine building adiabatic properties.
