  • A gust response analyses method based on Reduced Order Models (ROMs) was developed in the paper. Firstly, taken random signal as the input signal and adopt Single Input-Multi-Output (SIMO) training fashion, a ROM based on Auto-Regressive and Moving Average model (ARMA) was established and validated with the comparison of CFD/CSD and experiment. Then, by introducing control surface deflection and control laws, flutter active suppress was studied. Lastly, through filtering and transferring function, the gust temporal signal is obtained based on Dryden gust model, and gust response and suppress were simulated.

  • Gust load is a very important load factor in designing various structures of an aircraft and judging its stability. This is because the blast effect on the aircraft in operation increases the risk of damage to the structure of the aircraft and causes a negative impact such as shortening the fatigue life by generating vibration. Particularly in the case of wing, a change in angle of attack is caused by gust load, and an additional lift acts on the wing, thereby being exposed to various excitational environments. Severe structural damage to the aircraft may occur if the natural frequencies of the aircraft wing are close to or coincident with the frequencies of the gust load applied to the wing. Recent trends of research include flight dynamics analysis considering discontinuous gusts or structural optimization of the blades under gust load. A number of studies have been conducted to interpret gust load response in consideration of irregularities in gusts. In this paper, we tried to imagine the situation of the aircraft subjected to the gust load as realistic as possible, and proposed an algorithm to track back the critical gust profile according to given aircraft characteristics from the viewpoint of preliminary engineering prediction.

  • The gust factor and turbulence intensity are two crucial parameters that characterize the properties of turbulence. In tropical cyclones (TCs), these parameters exhibit significant variability, yet there is a lack of established formulas to account for their probabilistic characteristics with consideration of their inherent connection. On this condition, a probabilistic analysis of gust factors and turbulence intensities of TCs is conducted based on fourteen sets of wind data collected at the Sutong Cable-stayed Bridge site. Initially, the turbulence intensities and gust factors of recorded data are computed, followed by an analysis of their probability densities across different ranges categorized by mean wind speed. The Gaussian, lognormal, and generalized extreme value (GEV) distributions are employed to fit the measured probability densities, with subsequent evaluation of their effectiveness. The Gumbel distribution, which is a specific instance of the GEV distribution, has been identified as an optimal choice for probabilistic characterizations of turbulence intensity and gust factor in TCs. The corresponding empirical models are then established through curve fitting. By utilizing the Gumbel distribution as a template, the nexus between the probability density functions of turbulence intensity and gust factor is built, leading to the development of a generalized probabilistic model that statistically describe turbulence intensity and gust factor in TCs. Finally, these empirical models are validated using measured data and compared with suggestions recommended by specifications.

  • A study on gust load alleviation using aircraft control surface was performed. Aeroservoelastic model including control surface controller was formulated and validated by comparing the results of continuous gust response analysis with those of MSC/NASTRAN. Optimal control with output feedback was adopted for designing the control surface controller, and the effects of gust load alleviation was validated by performing the numerical simulation for the controller designed.

  • In this study, the method of designing the flexible wing model which will be used for wind tunnel testing of gust response alleviation system was presented. The design concept proposed herein was validated by performing the modal testing of the flexible wing model manufactured for demonstration purpose. In addition, the study on the gust response alleviation using flexible wing control surface was performed. For this purpose, optimal control with output feedback was adopted for designing the control surface controller, and the effects of gust response alleviation was validated by performing the numerical simulation for the representative flexible wing model. The methods proposed and validated in this study can be applied for wind tunnel testing of the flexible wing for gust response alleviation.

  • An aerospace vehicle in flight can be exposed to random gust which may cause critical structural failure. In this paper, the failure analysis is conducted for composite wing subjected to random gust. For this, the profile of random gust is idealized as a stationary Gaussian random process and the power spectral density (PSD) of wing bending moment induced by gust is obtained. The PSD function is converted to probabilistic distributions and the failure probability during total flight time is calculated by Monte Carlo simulation.

  • The thesis is for gust factor needing when calculate the wind resistance design. For the gust factor, to the membrane structural model, carry through the wind tunnel test and the static load test. Therefore, at first through the tensile test of the fabric material, designate the material of the membrane structural model. Then, to saddle, wave, arch and point four kinds of basic shape membrane structural models, carry on the wind tunnel test, determine their dynamic load and distortion on lateral direction. Finally, according to distort situation of the membrane structure in the wind tunnel test, carry on the static load experiment outside of the wind tunnel, calculate static load which corresponding with distort. According to dynamic load and the static load, figure out gust factor of these kinds of basic membrane structure.

  • In this study, the relationship between tie shape and underbody train gust of high-speed train is numerically investigated. To this end, complex train underbody/railroad model is replaced by simple plate/tie model. And it is tried to find a most important parameter for reduction of underbody train gust through the Taguchi method and orthogonal array. As a result, it is verified that the height of tie is most sensitive to the underbody train gust because of the cavity effect between ties. When the width and distance between ties are decreased, underbody train gust is also reduced. Consequently, the heighter is examined which can give the similar effect of higher tie without replacement of tie. The 5cm heighter can reduce underbody train gust about $73\%$, which value is only $7\%$ less than the higher tie.

  • This study presents the analysis of temporal and spatial distribution of occurrences of wind gust over Korea from 2002 to 2009. The events during typhoons are excluded and the topographical effects on the wind speed are also corrected using KBC (2005). As the results, the frequency of the occurrences is as high as 286 and the higher occurrences appear mainly along the coastal area. This study also shows that the uncertainty of the appearance of wind gust during thunderstorm is much higher than in synoptic wind by comparing wind speed records for both events. This study also found that the spatial distribution of cumulative cloud quotient is closely correlated to that of occurrences of thunderstorm wind gust, which suggests the possible utilization of the cloud quotient as weighting factors in assessing wind gust risk.

  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV) needs autonomous flight capability to accomplish various mission objectives. For this objective, the autopilot is a key element in the UAV system design. The principal goal of autopilot is to guide the aircraft under varying external disturbances throughout the mission phases. The external disturbances include gravity effect, wind gust, and other unexpected obstacles. The gust affects the aircraft flight performance to a significant extent. UAV's low speed, light weight, and the absence of human judgment makes un predictable gust more dangerous. Autopilot design in general takes the gust effect into account to satisfy flight performance requirement. In this study..
