Effects of Sound Stimulation on Growth Performance, Feeding Behaviour and Egg Production in Egg-type Chickens (산란계에 있어서 육성기의 소리자극이 육성성적, 섭취행동 및 산란율에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to determine the effect of sound stimulation on growth performance, feeding behaviour and egg production of laying hens. A total of 180 laying hens(4 weeks old) were alloted to 18 cages with 10hens per cage and 6 cages per treatment. Laying hens were exposed to three sounds: control, Leq 50dB and Leq 75dB. The growth performance was measured fro m4 weeks to 17 weeks of age, feeding behaviour was observed at 5weeks, 7weeks, 10weeks and 50 weeks of age using data from real-time videotapes, while eg production was recorded from 20 weeks to 50 weeks of age. Growth performance was improved in the sound stimulated laying hens from 12 weeks to 17 weeks of age. In the 50dB simulated laying hens spent more longer time for feeding than others during the experimental period. Egg production of 50dB stimulated laying hens from 20 weeks to 50 weeks was higher than others, however 75dB stimulated laying hens were significantly lower than 50dB stimulated hens(P<0.05). The results indicated that the growth and egg production of egg type chicken can be influenced by sound stimulation through physiological rhythm.

  • Micro cell stimulation device is interested in many researchers because it has several advantages such as saving time and reagents. We introduce new micro-bioreactor using micro bead and conduct cell stimulation experiments to verify effective time because cell have operated by cell-cycle (G1, S, G2, and M phase). Micro-bioreactor was made by soft lithography and CAPE (calf pulmonary artery endothelial cell) was cultured in PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane) micro device for 12 hour and cell starvation process was performed for 24 hours. Micro glass beads were rolled only by slating device every hour during 15 hour because of minimizing other stimulation force like flow and pressure. The result represents that cells under exposed under micro bead stimulation show higher growth rate than normal condition and earlier and later stimulation time are more effective.

Effectss of Biotin-rich Functional Food (Whalgichan) on Hair Growth and Biological Stimulation in Rat and Human

  • For the development of functional food for hair-growth stimulation, this study has tried an in vivo and clinical test. As an in vivo test male Sprague Dawley rats and as a clinical test 27 baldheaded or loosehaired men were recruited. Before the experiment, the total hair count in 6 $\textrm{mm}^2$ of the designated area was 46.5. In four weeks and eight weeks of the functional food feeding it increased to 61.8 and 75.3, respectively. Hence the net increase was totaled at 62% in eight weeks. Also, depilation was decreased by 28%. Before the experiment, average hair loss was 65.7. In four weeks and eight weeks of the functional food feeding it decreased to 55.2 and 47.3, respectively. LDL and phospholipids were decreased by 42% and 36%, respectively during that period. However, HDL was increased by 21%. Forty percent of the subjects responded that itching of head skin was reduced and 34% responded to have reduced dandruff. No side-effects among the subjects were examined and no other blood pa-rameters were significantly affected by the diet. The results in this study suggest that biotin-rich functional food may stimulate cholesterol and lipid metabolism and blood flow leading to the growth of new hair and prevention of hair loss.

Bifidobacterial Growth Stimulation by Lactobacillus casei via Whey Fermentation

  • Three-hundred bacterial isolates from a natural cheese were screened for the production of bifidobacterial growth factor by whey fermentation. Based on this screen, two whey samples fermented by strains designated as CJNU 0421 and CJNU 0588 were found to effectively stimulate the growth of a bifidobacterial strain, Bifidobacterium longum FI10564, by 1.6$\sim$1.7 fold compared to a control, in which non-fermented whey medium was added. The two isolates were identified to be Lactobacillus casei (99% identity) by 16S rRNA gene sequencing and named Lactobacillus casei CJNU 0421 and CJNU 0588, respectively. The whey sample fermented by CJNU 0588 did not enhance the growth of other bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Listeria monocytogenes, suggesting that the whey fermentation metabolites from the isolate could be used for the selective stimulation of bifidobacteria.

  • In order to know the effect on the growth of experimental rats, this, this experimental rats, this experiment was carried out on two groups of rats-a rice-diet animal group and a stock-diet animal group. Results of the growth experiment are shown in the tables 3 and 4, and growth curves are shown in the figures 1 and 2. The growth curves are shown in the figures 3 and 4. Based on the statistical analysis of growth rats, the male group on stock-diet was stimulated significantly in its growth by adding antler. The female group on rice-diet was also significantly stimulated in growth by anter. The other groups are not significant but it seems likely that the growths wers stimulated. As shown in table 7, the numbers of days when the body weight of the animals in each group became two times, three times, three times, and four times are discussed. This method of analysis shows clearly the stimulation of growth by adding antler in each group in both sexes. It can be summarized that the antler stimulates the growth of the experimental rats but it is not discussed in this paper whether this stimulation in the growth might be due to calcium, vitamins and amino acids in antler or to an unknown growth factor.

  • This is an analysis of 39 patients studied at the Yonsei Medical Center from January, 1976 to March 1979. Of these35 patient were suspected of having hypothalamic insufficiency and subjected to the L-Dopa stimulation test to observe growth hormone sceretory function while four acromegaly patient received the glucose loading test and L-Dopa stimulation test. The results are as follows: 1. The basal level of GH in the various disease was as follows: a. The basal level was lower than the control level but was not statistically significant b. In diabetes the mean value tended to be higher than the control level but was not significant statistically c. In all four acromegaly patients the GH level was significantly higher than the control level 2. Of 13 patients with diabetes, nine had diabetic retinopathy, and of those nine, sir showed increased L-Dopa response. However, of the four non retinopathic DM patients, only one showed increased response to L-Dopa. 3. Two patients out of ten with Sheehan's syndrome responded to L-Dopa stimulation. 4. One Patient of eight with pituitary chromophobe adenoma responded to L-Dopa stimulation. 5. Four acromegaly patients revealed 3 acidophilic adenoma and one chromophobe adenoma histologically. Of patients receiving the L-Dopa stimulation test. Two showed a paradoxical response. Two patients who received the glucose loading test showed supressed response. 6. Of two craniopharyngioma patients, one showed increased GH response after L-Dopa stimulation. Studies on the effect of Sophora flavescens extract on the hair growth stimulation and acne inhibition (苦蔘抽出物이 毛髮成長 促進 및 面疱 抑制에 미치는 영향)

  • In the course of screening natural extracts for hair growth, we found that the extract of dried root of Sophora flavescens has the prominent hair growth promoting effect. After topical application of Sophora flavescens extract to the back of C57BL/6 mice, the earlier conversion of telogen-to-anagen phase was induced. In addition, the Sophora flavescens extract revealed to possess potent inhibitory effect on $5{\alpha}$-reductase Ⅰ and Ⅱ activity. The growth of dermal papilla cells and mouse vibrissae hair follicle cultured in vitro, however, was not affected by Sophora flavescens extract treatment. RT-PCR analysis showed that Sophora flavescens extract induced mRNA levels of growth factors such as insulin-like growth factor-Ⅰ and keratinocyte growth factor in dermal papilla cells, suggesting hair growth promoting effect of Sophora flavescens extract is mediated through inhibition of $5{\alpha}$-reductase type Ⅱ activity and the regulation of growth factors in dermal papilla cells. Furthermore, Sophora flavescens extract also showed anti-bacterial effect on Propionibacterium acnes. These results suggest that Sophora flavescens can be used as a potent treatment agent for helping hair growth stimulation and acne inhibition.

Modern acupuncture-like stimulation methods: a literature review

  • Acupuncture therapy has been proved to be effective for diverse diseases, symptoms, and conditions in numerous clinical trials. The growing popularity of acupuncture therapy has triggered the development of modern acupuncture-like stimulation devices (ASDs), which are equivalent or superior to manual acupuncture with respect to safety, decreased risk of infection, and facilitation of clinical trials. Here, we aim to summarize the research on modern ASDs, with a focus on featured devices undergoing active research and their effectiveness and target symptoms, along with annual publication rates. We searched the popular electronic databases Medline, PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science, and analyzed English-language studies on humans. Thereby, a total of 728 studies were identified, of which 195 studies met our inclusion criteria. Electrical stimulators were found to be the earliest and most widely studied devices (133 articles), followed by laser (44 articles), magnetic (16 articles), and ultrasound (2 articles) stimulators. A total of 114 studies used randomized controlled trials, and 109 studies reported therapeutic benefits. The majority of the studies (32%) focused on analgesia and pain-relief effects, followed by effects on brain activity (16%). All types of the reviewed ASDs were associated with increasing annual publication trends; specifically, the annual growth in publications regarding noninvasive stimulation methods was more rapid than that regarding invasive methods. Based on this observation, we anticipate that the noninvasive or minimally invasive ASDs will become more popular in acupuncture therapy.

Changes in Shoot and Root Growth of Tomato Seedlings Stimulated by Brushing (브러싱 자극 토마토 공정묘의 지상부와 지하부 생육 변화)

  • Mechanical stimulation induce the morphological changes in plants. In this study, we investigated the growth changes of tomato seedlings applicated to mechanical stimulation. The brushing treatment was used for mechanical stimulation. The brushing treatment interval was 2 hr using transfer device attached acrylic film from 10 days after sowing. Growth parameter of tomato seedlings were measured 3-day intervals to investigate the growth changes during brushing treatment. The plant height and leaf area were decreased in brushing treatment than the control, and the fresh and dry weights of shoot didn't have significant difference in the control and brushing treatment. The total root length and root surface area were increased in brushing treatment compared than the control, and root volume has no significant difference in the control and brushing treatment. In conclusion, these results suggest that the application of brushing treatment on tomato seedling make shorten plant height and well-development root morphological characteristics.

Stimulation Effect of a Soft Ferrite Ceramic Powder on Growth in Plant Cell and Tissue Cultures (연자성 세라믹 분말에 의한 식물세포 및 조직의 생장촉진 효과)

  • The addition of the ceramic powder as state of bare in culture medium has stimulated the growth of Achyranthes japonica in both the disorganized cell and the plantlet. The grwoth rate of Hyoscyamus niger adventitious root and Pylatycodon grandiflorum hairy root was enhanced up to 100 and 250%, respectively, even though Scopolia parviflora hairy root and Hyoscyamus albus adventitious root were not. The ceramic powder has enhanced the growth of H. niger adventitious root even in a test tube immersed into its culture medium to irradiate alone without any direct contact. The ceramic powder seems to have a significant role on both the growth and the physiological action of some plants.
