Quantum Nanostructure of InGaAs on Submicron Gratings by Constant Growth Technique

  • A new constant growth technique to conserve an initial grating height of V-groove AlGaAs/InGaAs quantum nanostructures above 1.0 $\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness has been successfully embodied on submicron gratings using low pressure metalorganic chemical vapor deposition. A GaAs buffer prior to an AlGaAs barrier layer on submicron gratings plays an important role in overcoming mass transport effects and improving the uniformity of gratings. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) image shows that high-density V-groove InGaAs quantum wires (QWRs) are well confined at the bottom of gratings. The photoluminescence (PL) peak of the InGaAs QWRs is observed in the temperature range from 10 to 280 K with a relatively narrow full width at half maximum less than 40 meV at room temperature PL. The constant growth technique is an important step to realize complex optoelectronic devices such as one-step grown distributed feedback lasers and two-dimensional photonic crystal.

느타리버섯 생육단계별 호흡량 (Respiration amount on the Growth Step of Pleurotus ostreatus)

  • 느타리버섯 생육단계별 호흡량을 측정한 결과, 균사배양 초기는 850cc병 16병(1밧트)에서 1분당 호흡량이 184.75ppm이며 1병당 11.55ppm/min.이고 1시간에 692.8ppm/1병이므로 배양실에 2500병이 있다면 173,203ppm/1시간의 이산화탄소가 발생한다. 그러므로 배양초기에 배양 실내 적정 이산화탄소함량인 600±100ppm으로 맞추기 위해서는 신선한 공기가 배양실로 얼마만큼 유입되어야 하는가를 계산식으로 나타낼 수 있다. 균사배양 중기는 850cc병 16병(1밧트)에서 1분당 호흡량이 185.8ppm이며 1병당 11.62ppm/min.으로 배양초기보다 호흡량이 약간 많다가 배양이 진행된에 따라 호흡량이 감소하였다. 버섯생육초기는 850cc병 16병(1밧트)에서 1분당 호흡량이 154.5ppm이며 1병당 9.66ppm/min.이고 1시간에 579.4ppm/1병이다. 버섯생육중기단계는 850cc병 16병(1밧트)에서 1분당 호흡량이 148.1ppm이며 1병당 9.26ppm/min.이고 1시간에 555.4ppm/1병이다. 버섯생육말기단계는 850cc병 16병(1밧트)에서 1분당 호흡량이 157.1ppm이며 1병당 9.82ppm/min.이고 1시간에 589.1ppm/1병이다. 버섯 수확 후 단계는 850cc병 16병(1밧트)에서 1분당 호흡량이 101.6ppm이며 1병당 6.35ppm/min.이고 1시간에 381ppm/1병이다. 버섯 균사배양에서 생육, 수확단계까지 전체 경시적인 변화를 보면 배양초기와 중기에 가장 높고 점차 감소하다가 생육초기보다 말기 쪽이 조금씩 호흡량이 증가하다가 수확 후에 급속하게 감소하는 경향이었다.

  • A new multi-seeding process for the growth of YBa$_2Cu_3O_x$ single crystals was developed. This process introduces an additional heating step to peritectic temperature and a subsequent slow cooling step to the growth temperature following the point when the crystals contacted. The crystal growth was resumed thereafter. The results obtained with this new process were compared with those of the conventional growth process, in which materials were only kept at the growth temperature. There was significant improvement in trapped magnetic field over the conventional multi-seeding process, which is believed to be due to complete elimination of liquid phase between crystals.

Effects of Controlled Compensatory Growth on Mammary Gland Development and Lactation in Rats

  • The objective of this study was to examine the effect of compensatory growth nutritional regimen on mammary gland growth and lactation. One hundred twenty-two Sprague Dawley female rats (35 days of age) were randomly assigned to either a control or a stair-step compensatory nutrition (SSCN) feeding regimen or an alternating 2-2-3-3-week schedule beginning with 40% energy restriction for 2 weeks followed by re-alimentation (control diet) for 2 weeks. Pup weight gain and milk yield were improved 8% and 8 to 15%, respectively, by the SSCN regimen. The gene expression of $\beta$-casein was 2.3-fold greater in the SSCN group than in the control group during early lactation, but they were greater at all stages of the second lactation. The gene expression of insulin-like growth factor-I was 40% lower in the SSCN group than in the control group during early lactation of the second lactation, but during late lactation it was 80% greater than in the control group. The concentration of serum corticosterone tended to be higher in the SSCN group during the late stage of the first lactation. These results suggest that the stair-step compensatory nutrition regimen improves lactation performance and persistency by modulation of cell differentiation and apoptotic cell death.

One-step microwave synthesis of surface functionalized carbon fiber fabric by ZnO nanostructures

  • The rapid growth of zinc-oxide (ZnO) nanostructures (NSs) on woven carbon fiber (WCF) is reported in this study employing a microwave-aided chemical bath deposition process. The effects of different process parameters such as molar concentration, microwave duration and microwave power on morphologies and growth rate of the ZnO on WCF were studied. Furthermore, an attempt has been taken to study influence of different type of growth solutions on ZnO morphologies and growth rates. The surface functionalization of WCF fabrics is achieved by successful growth of crystalline ZnO on fiber surface in a very short duration through one-step microwave synthesis. The morphological, structural and compositional studies of ZnO-modified WCF are evaluated using field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy respectively. Good amount of zinc and oxygen has been seen in the surface of WCF. The presence of the wurtzite phase of ZnO having crystallite size 30-40 nm calculated using the Debye Scherrer method enhances the surface characteristics of WCF fabrics. The UV-VIS spectroscopy is used to investigate optical properties of ZnO-modified WCF samples by absorbance, transmittance and reflectance spectra. The variation of different parameters such as dielectric constants, optical conductivity, refractive index and extinction coefficient are examined that revealed the enhancement of optical characteristics of carbon fiber for wide applications in optoelectronic devices, carbon fiber composites and photonics.

국산 핵연료에 사용되는 Zircaloy-4 피복관의 조사성장 거동 해석 (Analysis of Irradiation Growth Behavior for the Zircaloy-4 Cladding used in the KOFA Fuel)

  • 국산 핵연료에 사용되는 KOFA Zircaloy-4피복관의 조사성장 거동을 평가하고 제조 공정이 서로 다른 Siemens사 피복관의 조사성장거동과 비교하기 위하여 고리 2호기에 장전된 핵연료 피복관의 조사성장이 측정되었다. KOFA Zircaloy-4피복관은 최종 열처리시의 부분 재결정화로 인하여 fully annealed Zircaloy피복관고 Siemens사 피복관의 측정된 조사성장율이 차이는 제조공정의 차이에 기인한 피복관 집합도 계수의 차이로서 설명할 수 있었다. 고리 2호기 국산핵연료에서 측정된 자료를 이용하여 KOFA Zircaloy-4 피복관의 2단계 조사성장 모델이 유도되었는데 향후 측정자료가 많이 축적되면 유도된 모델의 정확성이 보다 명확하게 검증될 수 있을 것이다.

Growth rate and growth steps of 6H-SiC single crystals in the sublimation process

  • 6H-SiC bulk crystals were grown by sublimation method with different conditions in term of gaseous pressures ad source temperatures. In order to optimize the growth rate, pressure at growth period and source and substrate temperatures were investigated as experimental variables. the results were compared with each other and finally the optimum growth conditions were discussed. Furthermore the relation of the growth steps and defects formation was evaluates in the point of reducing the micropipes. Subsequently the growth steps and defects formation was evaluated in the point of reducing the micropipes. Subsequently the growth steps were observed leading to the lower step height with the lower growth rate.

Kinetically Controlled Growth of Gold Nanoplates and Nanorods via a One-Step Seed-Mediated Method

  • In this research, we further developed the one-step seed mediated method to synthesize gold nanoparticles (GNPs) and control their resulting shapes to obtain hexagonal, triangular, rod-shaped, and spherical gold nanostructures. Our method reveals that the reaction kinetics of formation of GNPs with different shapes can be controlled by the rate of addition of ascorbic acid, because this is the critical factor that dictates the energy barrier that needs to be overcome. This in turn affects the growth mechanism process, which involves the adsorption of growth species to gold nanoseeds. There were also observable trends in the dimensions of the GNPs according to different rates of addition of ascorbic acid. We performed further analyses to investigate and confirm the characteristics of the synthesized GNPs.
