The present study was carried out to examine the sustained release effect of the implantable bovine somatotropin (SRI-BST) formula. In the blood profile test in steers, the bovine somatotropin concentration in serum by radioimmunoassay showed the peak concentration on the first day after the implantation of the SRI-BST formula, and concentration proceeded for 5 days (p < 0.05). The insulin-like growth factor-1 concentration showed the peak concentration on the seventh day after implantation of the SRIF-BST formula, and concentration proceeded for 10 days (p < 0.05). The glucose showed the peak concentration on the first day after implantation of the SRI-BST formula, and concentration continued for 3 days (p < 0.05). The blood urea nitrogen showed the lowest concentration on the third day after implantation of the SRI-BST formula, and concentration continued for 7 days (p < 0.05). These results proved that the SRIF-BST formula was the sustained release effects in steers.
A typical software development life cycle consists of a series of phases, each of which has some ability to insert and detect defects. To achieve desired quality, we should progress the defect removal with the all phases of the software development. The well-known model of phase-based defect profile is Gaffney model. This model assumes that the defect removal profile follows Rayleigh curve and uses the parameters as the phase index number. However, these is a problem that the location parameter cannot present the peak point of removed defects when you apply Gaffney model to the actual situation. Therefore, Gaffney model failed to represent the actual defect profile. This paper suggests two different models: One is modified Gaffney model that introduce the parameter of Putnam's SLIM model to replace of the location parameter, the other is the growth function model because the cumulative defect profile shows S-shaped. Suggested model is analyzed and verified by the defect profile sets that are obtained from 5 different software projects. We could see from the experiment, the suggested model performed better result than Gaffney model.
Pseudomonas stutzeri strain KCCM 34719 was used in this experiment to determine the effects of increasing Pb(II) concentrations on its growth rate. To obtain optimum growth conditions, strain KCCM 34719 was cultivated in nutrient broth under various conditions, such as temperature, pH, and NaCl concentration. Optimal conditions for cell growth were $30^{\circ}C$ of temperature, 8.0 of pH, and 3% of NaCl concentration, respectively. Growth response of bacterial cell to Pb(II) showed tolerance to concentrations ranging from 10 to 100 mg ${\ell}^{-1}$ in liquid culture, following a growth pattern similar to the control. Growth rate was greatly inhibited at 200 mg ${\ell}^{-1}$ of Pb(II).

The growth of composite-structured Nd:$GdVO_4$ single crystal rods by the double die EFG method is reported. Two crucibles are combined with an outer and inner die for ascending of different melt. The composite-structured Nd:$GdVO_4$ single crystal rods with a length of 50 mm and an outer diameter of 5 mm including of inner Nd-doped core region with diameter 3 mm were grown successfully. Nd distribution in the, radial direction has graded profile from result of EPMA. Absorption coefficient in the core region at 808 nm was $42cm^{-1}$. Finally, we demonstrated the laser oscillation using our composite crystal and 2-W output was obtained.
A total of 96 pigs ($49.23{\pm}3.20$ kg) were used in an 11 wk growth trial to evaluate the effect of fermentable carbohydrate (FC) content on growth performance, apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of nutrient, blood profile, and meat quality. The dietary treatments were: i) negative control (NC), basal diet, ii) positive control (PC), NC+antibiotics (positive control diet with 5 ppm flavomycin), iii) PCL, PC-13% lower FC, and iv) NCL, NC-13% lower FC. The growth performance (average daily gain, average daily feed intake, and gain/feed) didn't differ among treatments through the whole experiment. These pigs fed the PCL diet had the greater (p<0.05) apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of dry matter than those from PC and NC treatment at the end of the experiment. No differences were observed in white blood cell (WBC), red blood cell (RBC), and lymphocyte concentration among different treatments. After the feeding period, meat samples were collected from the pigs at slaughter. The pigs in NCL and PCL treatments had greater (p<0.05) backfat thickness and lower lean percentage. The color value of loin was higher (p<0.05) in NCL treatment compared to PCL treatment. Also, the NCL treatment had higher (p<0.05) marbling value than PC treatment. The drip loss was depressed by PCL and NCL treatment comapared to NC treatments. The water holding capacity (WHC) was higher (p<0.05) in NC and PCL treatment. In conclusion, the low FC can improve digestibility and meat quality of finishing pigs.

It is well known that the position and the shape of the S/L interface affect the qualities of the single crystal in the growth process. Thus the information of the temperature profile in the growth system is very important. In this study, we developed the program to predict the temperature profile from the setting values of the heating blocks in VGF(vertical gradient freezing) single crystal growth system. With this program, we studied the effects of the materials and the sizes of support rod, the materials of the crucible on the S/L interface shape. The larger radius and/or smaller thermal diffusivity support rod was, the flatter the S/L interface was. When the thermal conductivity of crucible was isotropic, the S/L interface was more concave downward to the solid phase in proportional to the increase of thermal diffusivity of the crucible. By the comparison of the S/L interface shape between PBN crucible and quartz crucible for the same condition, the effect of anisotropy of thermal conductivity of crucible showed different trends with respect to the position of the S/L interface.
Objective: This study was conducted to compare growth performance, nutrient digestibility and meat quality of broilers fed a genetically modified organism (GMO) diet or a non-GMO diet. Methods: A total of 840 broilers with an initial body weight of 43.03 g per chick were randomly allocated into 1 of the following 2 dietary treatments lasted for 32 days (15 broilers per pen with 28 replicates per treatment): i) Trt 1, GMO maize-soybean meal based diet; ii) Trt 2, non-GMO maize soybean meal based diet. Both diets were maize-soybean meal diets. The GMO qualitative analysis, proximate analysis and amino acid analysis of the feed ingredient samples were carried out. Diets were formulated based on a nutrient matrix derived from analysis results. Growth performance was measured on day 0, 7, 17, and 32. And all other response criteria were measured on day 32. Results: The analysis results showed that the total Lys, Met, Thr of non-GMO grains were lower than that of GMO grains, the protein content of GMO soybean meal was higher than that of non-GMO soybean meal. Feed intake and feed conversion rate (FCR) were greater (p<0.05) in broilers provided with non-GMO diet than that of the GMO group from d 17 to 32. A decrease in FCR was observed in birds fed the GMO diet through the entire experiment (p<0.05). No significant impacts on blood profile, meat quality and nutrient digestibility were found in response to dietary treatments throughout the experimental period (p>0.05). Conclusion: These results indicated that non-GMO diet showed a negative effect on growth performance but nutrient digestibility, blood profile, carcass weight and meat quality were not affected by non-GMO diets.
The major garlic component, Allicin [diallylthiosulfinate, or (R, S)-diallyldissulfid-S-oxide] is known for its medicinal effects, such as antihypertensive activity, microbicidal activity, and antitumor activity. Allicin and diallyldisulfide, which is a converted form of allicin, inhibited the cholesterol level in hepatocytes, in vivo and in vitro. The metabolism of allicin reportedly occurs in the microsomes of hepatocytes, predominantly with the contribution of cytochrome P-450. However, little is known about how allicin affects the genes involved in the activity of hepatocytes in vivo. In the present study, we used the short-term intravenous injection of allicin to examine the in vivo genetic profile of hepatocytes. Allicin up-regulate ten genes in the hepatocytes. For example, the interferon regulator 1 (IRF-I), the wingless-related MMTV (mouse mammary tumor virus) integration site 4 (wnt-4), and the fatty acid binding protein 1. However, allicin down-regulated three genes: namely, glutathione S-transferase mu6, a-2-HS glycoprotein, and the corticosteroid binding globulin of hepatocytes. The up-regulated wnt-4, IRF-1, and mannose binding lectin genes can enhance the growth factors, cytokines, transcription activators and repressors that are involved in the immune defense mechanism. These primary data, which were generated with the aid of the Atlas Plastic Mouse 5 K Microarray, help to explain the mechanism which enables allicin to act as a therapeutic agent, to enhance immunity, and to prevent cancer. The data suggest that these benefits of allicin are partly caused by the up-regulated or down-regulated gene profiles of hepatocytes. To evaluate the genetic profile in more detail, we need to use a more extensive mouse genome array.
This study aimed to develop models of sulfate diffusion and ettringite content profile in cement paste for the predication of the damage behavior in cement paste subject to external sulfate. In the models, multiphase reaction equilibrium between ions in pore solution and solid calcium aluminates phases and the microstructure changes in different positions of cement paste were taken into account. The distributions of expansive volume strain and expansion stress in cement paste were calculated based on the ettringite content profile model. In addition, more sulfate diffusion tests and SEM analyses were determined to verify the reliability and veracity of the models. As the results shown, there was a good correlation between the numerical simulation results and experimental evidences. The results indicated that the water to cement ratio (w/c) had a significant influence on the diffusion of sulfate ions, ettringite concentration profile and expansion properties in cement paste specimens. The cracking points caused by ettringite growth in cement paste specimens were predicted through numerical methods. According to the simulation results, the fracture of cement paste would be accelerated when the specimens were prepared with higher w/c or when they were exposed to sulfate solution with higher concentration.
The profile ring rolling process can realize various ring shapes unlike conventional rectangular cross-sectional ring products. In this paper, the defective groove in the bottom surface of L-shaped ring products was analyzed. Grooves are generated by non-uniform external forces due to profile main roll and initial blank shape. Process parameters such as the motion of dies and working temperature were determined. Mechanism of groove formation was analyzed by FE simulation on the basis of local external forces acting on the blank. Analysis results were similar to the groove actually occurring in the production line. Based on results of the analysis, two solutions were proposed for the groove. The position of the base plate supporting the blank was adjusted and edge length of the main roll was extended to suppress growth of grooves. It has been verified that groove was improved by applying two proposed methods in the shop-floor.
