  • The properties of fracture system on road-cut slopes along the Busan-Ulsan express way under construction are investigated and analyzed. Fracture spacing distributions show log-normal form with extension fractures and negative exponential form with shear fractures. Straight line segments in log-log plots of cumulative fracture length indicate a power-law scaling with exponents of -1.13 in site 1, -1.01 in site 2 and -1.52 in site 3. It is likely that the stability and strength of rock mass are the lowest in site 1 as judged from the analyses of spacing, density and inter-section of fractures in three sites. In contrast, the highest efficiency of the fracture network for conducting fluid flow is seen in site 3 where the largest cluster occupies 73% through the window map. Based on the field survey data, this study modified weighting values of the RMR system using a multiple regression analysis method. The analysis result suggests a modified weighting values of the RMR parameters as follows; 18 for the intact strength of rock; 61 for RQD; 2 for spacing of discontinuities; 2 for the condition of discontinuities; and 17 for ground water.

  • Today, the domestic construction area has changed from the ground development area to the underground space development area. In addition, the problems of sprawling development and environmental pollution in the process of developing underground space have become significant. In the circumstances, it is expected that the use of underground space information, which helps to understand underground space, will be on the sharp rise. However, the underground information in Korea is separately established and managed by each institution, and it is difficult to use the information in an integrated way. Therefore, at the time when the information on underground space is integrated, it is required to perform the integrated DB standardization in order to establish the integrated infrastructure of underground space information. In this work, this researcher studied a plan of using the standardization of the integrated infrastructure of underground space information. As a result, this work suggested standardization of each geologic stratum, standardization of unit systems, and standardization of the connection of underground space information regarding the standardization contents of underground space information integration. To examine its availability, this researcher conducted a questionnaire survey with experts of each institution. As a result, the suggested plan was found to be have high availability.

  • Soil is one of the Earth's most important resources. There are many differences among the soils of plains.like and hilly terrains, and therefore, accurate and comprehensive information on soil is essential for optimum and sustainable soil utilization. However, information on the soil of the hilly terrains of the Eastern Ghats of Tamil Nadu, India, is limited or absent. In the present study, Kolli hill, one among the hills of the Eastern Ghats, was soil.inventoried and mapped using a ground survey and remote sensing. Soil samples were collected and their physico.chemical properties analyzed according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) standards. The soils were classified up to the family level. As a result of this study, 30 soil series belonging to ten sub.groups of five great groups and three sub.orders and orders each, were identified (classified to the family level) and mapped. Entisols, Inseptisols and Alfisols were the three orders, among which Entisols was the major one, occupying 75% of the area. Among the five great groups, Ustorthents occupied majority of the area (73%). Lithic Ustorthents and Typic Ustorthents were the two major sub.groups, occupying 40% and 26% of the total area, respectively. The present soil resource mapping of the Eastern Ghats of Tamil Nadu is a pioneer study, which yielded valuable information on the soil in this region.

  • Purpose: This study investigated consumers' perception of food safety and risk from foodborne illness and consumption pattern of meat and processed meat products in Korea. Methods: A quantitative survey was performed by trained interviewers, surveying 1,500 adults who were randomly selected from six major provinces in Korea. Results: Most of the respondents reported foodborne illness risk related to the consumption of raw meat but not related to heated meat and processed meat products. As respondents perceived the risk of food poisoning from raw meat, the purchase and intake decreased (p<0.001). Most of the respondents considered a low possibility of foodborne illness at home. Seventy-seven percent of the respondents thought that bacteria and virus are the main causes of foodborne illness. Improper storage practice (40.7%) and unsafe food material (29.3%) were the main risk factors contributing to foodborne illness. Perception and practice of food safety was significantly different by the residency area. The most preferred meat, processed meat, and processed ground meat products were pork (58%), ham (31.1%), and pork cutlet (40.4%), respectively. The most preferred cooking method was roasting, regardless of the type of meat, but the second preference for cooking method was significantly affected by the type of meat (p<0.001): stir-fried pork, beef with seasoning, fried-chicken and boiled duck. Frequency of eating out was 0.75/day on weekdays and 0.78/day on weekends at the mainly Korean BBQ restaurant. Conclusion: The results of this study could be used to develop science-based education materials for consumer and the specific guideline of risk management of meat and processed meat products.

  • The necessity of clear understanding of water and energy cycles has been attracted recently due to the climate change. The micrometeorological flux tower networks play a role of cornerstone of the hydrological and ecological analyses. Although the eddy covariance techniques used for flux tower have been proven to be applicable for estimation of latent heat flux, the raw data are often underestimated and needs to be corrected. Among several methods, the Bowen ratio is recognized as the most useful method in which the net radiation and other flux data (Ground heat flux, Sensible heat flux) are used and needed to be validated. In this study, in order to validate the net radiation from flux tower in Seolmacheon and Cheongmicheon watersheds, we compare it with two version of calculated net radiation: (1) FAO 56 Daily net radiation proposed by Allen et al. (1998). (2) Instantaneous net radiation proposed by Bastiaanssen (1995). The results showed that the net radiation from the flux data had similar tendency with those calculated based on physical theory. In addition, after it was applied to Bowen ratio method, the corrected latent heat flux was considerably improved with making the energy balance much more closed.

  • Drinking water deficiency is prevalent in developing countries due to contamination of surface and ground water, difficulties of water treatment, and lack of water infrastructures. 'Rainwater For Drinking (RFD)' projects are emerging as one of the effective solutions globally since RFD systems provide safe drinking water from rainwater. In RFD projects, perception of local residents toward RFD project is essential as local residents must manage their RFD systems on their own after the project finishes. This research performed survey and interview to 209 local residents, who use RFD systems, and analyzed their general perception, expected effects and feared factors toward RFD projects. Through the research, it was shown that the most of the local residents have positive perception towards RFD projects' effectiveness (41.9%) and are willing to participate (58.9%). The top three expected effect factors of the RFD projects were 'supply of safe water source', 'vitalization of local community', and 'expansion of RFD system'. The top three feared factors were 'quality of rainwater', 'technical factors of RFD system', and 'maintenance of RFD system'. The research findings indicate that development of simple water quality measuring device and education of the local residents about RFD system is necessary for better maintenance of the RFD system after the project finishes.

  • This research was conducted to examine the effects of cognitive and emotional empathy amongst employees, and its contribution to the enhancement of the effectiveness of an organization. Further, 'job stress' was used as the moderating value. For this purpose, examination procedures were based on theoretical ground drawn from previous research papers, and an appropriate hypothesis established. Statistical methods were also employed to obtain empirical evidence. This study consisted of four variables. The independent variable is categorised into the factors of cognitive and emotional empathy. Job stress as the moderating value as well as job satisfaction and turnover intention as members of the dependent variable. A survey was carried out targeting employees of numerous firms working in teams, and a total of 324 samples were collected and processed by the software package SPSS 21 for windows as a means to verify the set study model and hypothesis. The results of the study are as follows: The two factor of cognitive and emotional empathy did not present with any significant effects. However, cognitive empathy in relation to job stress was found to inflict negative effects. The study also found the two factors to play a significant role in asserting positive effects on an individual's level of satisfaction on his/her job. While the study further explained that cognitive understanding had the tendency to impose negative effects on the turnover intention, emotional empathy did not demonstrate significant effects. Job related stress negatively effects the level of satisfaction of an individual's given task or a job and positive relation with turnover intention. It was confirmed that job stress had a degree of intermediary role upon other factors such as empathy, job satisfaction and turnover intention. The results of the study purported that empathy can raise the level of an individual's job satisfaction and kerb turnover intention. In order to accomplish depreciated levels of job related stress, it is vital that firms consistently input fervent endeavours to be subserved. It must be able to create an environment wherein employees may enjoy the improved structure of the company to empathies with each other. These transitions would allow firms to achieve maximum efficiency and improvements on the effectiveness of an organization.

  • With supply of the domestic digital camera, the relative importance of the digital camera is coming to be high gradually on aerial photogrammetry, the image of digital camera is more applied in image map or digital topographic map production. But, there are cases that do not have position information or attitude information of each photograph in digital camera results. Therefore, we wish to present additional method to get more accurate photograph control point result. In this study, One is called A method, which is the case of entering positioning information of principal point from topographic map as default values that are need to extract tie point automatically using by 56 pieces of photography that are photographed by DMC to the extent to 5 courses and 35 GCP points. The other is called B-method, which is the case of entering exterior orientation parameters that are processed by block adjustment for A-method using by 4 control points in method-1 as default values. We have analyzed about results per control points arrangement for two cases using MATCH-AT that is photograph control point measurement S/W of Germany INPHO company. As a result of analysis, accuracy of B-method was better than that of A-method, and we could get more accurate results if block adjustments are executed including self calibration. Also, it is more effective in expense side that using self calibration for photograph survey in B-method because can reduce GCP numbers.

  • The gravity data collected and reserved in Korea is seriously biased in its distribution. That is, only the west-southern part of the peninsula including Chungcheong and Jeonla area has dense distribution while only a part is covered in Gyoungsang area. Especially, the low density of the gravity data in mountainous area basically limits the accuracy of the gravimetric geoid in Korea. As one of the solution to overcome the problem, an airborne gravity survey were conducted from Dec. 2008 $\sim$ Jan. 2009. In this study, free-air gravity anomaly derived from the airborne gravity data which has consistent quality are presented. The data processing for the airborne gravity is composed of several corrections of errors such as errors from gravity measurement, errors from flight dynamics, errors from GPS, and errors from time synchronization. We presented detailed explanations on the data processing with the final cross-over results. The free-air anomaly from airborne gravity finally shows the cross-over accuracy of 2.21mGal which reflects the precision of each track is 1.56mGal. It is expected that the result from this study will play a role as input data in precision geoid determination with ground and ship-borne gravity data after appropriate fusion process.
