  • In this paper, fault analysis using simulation method and fault diagnosis scheme are presented for induction motor drive system. Major faults such as inverter 'a' phase open fault, inverter 'a'-'b' phase short circuit fault and inverter 'a' phase ground fault are analyzed and simulated. On-line and off-line fault diagnosis systems are proposed.

  • This paper analyses the transient phenomena against single line to ground fault and lightning surge on underground power cable systems. For analysis in various fault conditions, several actual underground power cable systems are modeled using ATP In ground fault, the transient characteristic of the conductor and the sheath according to the fault current and the installation types of CCPU are analysed. In lightning surge strokes, the various unbalanced conditions including the length of crossbonded lead, the breakdown of CCPU and distance unbalance are considered. This paper is expected to contribute the establishment of proper protection methods against transients on underground power cable systems.

  • In this paper, KOMPSAT-2 on-board fault and ground recovery management design is addressesed in terms of hardware and software components which provide failure detection and spacecraft safing for anomalies which threaten spacecraft survival. It also includes ground real time up-commanding operation to recover the system safely. KOMPSAT-2 spacecraft fault and recovery management is designed such that the subsequent system configuration due to system initialization is initiated and controlled by processors. This paper will show that KOMPSAT-2 has a new design feature of CPU SEU mitigation for the possible upsets in the processor CPUs as a part of on-board fault management design. Recovery management of processor switching has two different ways: gang switching and individual switching. This paper will show that the difficulties of using multiple-processor system can be managed by proper design implementation and flight operation.

  • This paper proposes a fault location algorithm for two-parallel transmission line in the case of single line-to-ground fault Proposed algorithm is using voltage and current measured in the sending-end. The fault distance is simply determined by solving a second order polynomial equation due to the direct circuit analysis. The simulations by PSCAD/EMTDC have demonstrated the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper proposes a line-to-ground fault location algorithm for underground cable system. A feature of the proposed method is a new algorithm based on the analytic research which has not been tried until now. The proposed method firstly makes voltage and current equations using analysis of distributed parameter circuit for each of cores and sheathes respectively, and then establishes an equation of the fault distance according to the analysis of the fault conditions. Finally the solution of this equation is calculated by Newton-Raphson iteration method. The effectiveness of this proposed algorithm has been proven through PSCAD/EMTDC(Ver. 4.1) simulations.

  • This study suggests a modeling of grid-connected wind power generation system that has induction generator, and aims to perform simulations for outputs by the variation of actual wind speed and for fault current of wind generation system by the transformer winding connection. This study is implemented by matlab&simulink. The simulation shall be performed by assuming single line to ground fault generated in the system. Generator power, rotor speed, terminal voltage, system voltage, and fault current shall be observed following the performance of simulation. The fault current change will be dealt through the simulation results for fault current of wind generation system following the grid-connected transformer winding connection and the simulation result by the transformer neutral ground method.

  • In general, a fault locator is installed in Sub-Station of AT(Auto-transformer) feeding system to estimate the fault location and to protect the Korean AT feeding system. Since the line impedance characteristic is different to normal 3-phase transmission line, we need particular modification factors, which can be calculated using fault location recording data, to estimate the accurate fault location. Up to recently, forcible ground test has been used to calculate the modification factors of the fault locator. However, large amount of current is occurred when the forcible ground test is performed, and this current affects to adjacent equipments. Therefore, we proposed a novel calculation method of modification factors, arbitrary trip test, using boosting current of the operating electric train. Through several field test, we confirmed that modification factors for fault locator can be easily calculated by using proposed method. Moreover, we verified the accuracy and stability of the proposed calculation method.

  • Fault management design of the satellite describes preparations for failures which can occur during operational phase. Fault management design contains detection and isolation function of anomaly, and also it contains function to maintain the satellite in safe condition until the ground station finds out a cause of failure and takes a countermeasure. Unlike normal operation, safing operation is automatically performed by Power Control and Distribution Unit and Integrated Bus Management Unit which loads Flight Software without intervention of ground station. Since fault management operation is automatical, fault management logic and functionality of relevant hardware should be thoroughly checked during ground test phase, and error which is similar to actual should be carefully applied without damage. Verification test for fault management design is conducted for various subsystems of satellite. In this paper, we show the design process of fault management design verification test for Electrical Power Subsystem and Attitude and Orbit Control Subsystem of Low Earth Orbit satellite flight model and the test results.

  • To obtain a low ground resistance in high resistivity soil or in insufficient place such as downtown, long vertical ground rods are often used. However, if the lightning current or fault current with high frequency flows into the grounding system, the ground impedance is remarkedly increased. This paper presents how the impulse and fault current works on the long. vertical ground rods associated with incoming points. When the test current was injected at the bottom of ground rod, the potential waveform of ground rod includes the oscillation with high frequency.

Sensitivity analysis of variable curvature friction pendulum isolator under near-fault ground motions

  • Variable Curvature Friction Pendulum (VCFP) bearing is one of the alternatives to control excessive induced responses of isolated structures subjected to near-fault ground motions. The curvature of sliding surface in this isolator is varying with displacement and its function is non-spherical. Selecting the most appropriate function for the sliding surface depends on the design objectives and ground motion characteristics. To date, few polynomial functions have been experimentally tested for VCFP however it needs comprehensive parametric study to find out which one provides the most effective behavior. Herein, seismic performance of the isolated structure mounted on VCFP is investigated with two different polynomial functions of the sliding surface (Order 4 and 6). By variation of the constants in these functions through changing design parameters, 120 cases of isolators are evaluated and the most proper function is explored to minimize floor acceleration and/or isolator displacement under different hazard levels. Beside representing the desire sliding surface with adaptive behavior, it was shown that the polynomial function with order 6 has least possible floor acceleration under seven near-field ground motions in different levels.
