The collapse behavior of ground subsidence caused by continuous loss of particles depends on the saturated condition and density of the ground. In this study, types of ground subsidence were classified based on the saturated condition and each type was performed on the different relative density to analyze the influence factors on the collapse behavior by distinct element method. According to analysis results, the relatively small amount of settlement occurred on the dense ground and a cavity was created under dense-unsaturated ground. In contrast, loose ground showed the large amount of settlement and collapsed immediately without cavity formation even if the unsaturated ground was simulated. The results demonstrated that because the relative density has influence on the mechanical interlocking and saturated condition has influence on the inter-particle force, these are important factors to change the collapse behavior.
Evaluation on the sidesway seismic collapse capacity of the widely used low- and medium-height structures is meaningful. These structures with such type of collapse are recognized that behave as inelastic deteriorating single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) systems. To incorporate the deteriorating effects, the hysteretic loop of the nonlinear SDOF structural model is represented by a tri-linear force-displacement relationship. The concept of collapse capacity spectra are adopted, where the incremental dynamic analysis is performed to check the collapse point and a normalized ground motion intensity measure corresponding to the collapse point is used to define the collapse capacity. With a large amount of earthquake ground motions, a systematic parameter study, i.e., the influences of various ground motion parameters (site condition, magnitude, distance to rupture, and near-fault effect) as well as various structural parameters (damping, ductility, degrading stiffness, pinching behavior, accumulated damage, unloading stiffness, and P-delta effect) on the structural collapse capacity has been performed. The analytical formulas for the collapse capacity spectra considering above influences have been presented so as to quickly predict the structural collapse capacities.
Stone columns is the ground improvement method which composed of compacted gravel or crushed stone inserted into the soft ground consisting of loose sand and clay. There are many difficulties in quantitative analysis of soil-pile interaction because settlement behavior of stone columns is affected by various parameters. In this study, various parameters of behavior of end-bearing group piles are investigated by load tests. Finally, the improved characteristics of soft ground and the influence of design parameters are investigated in this study using PR (performance ratio) value. From the PR value calculation and test results, we know that settlement behavior of stone columns is affected by area replacement ratio of composite ground, diameter of column rather than embedment ratio and mat.

Top Base Foundation(TBF) is a stabilization method for light weight structures particularly in the soft ground. It is widely used for the increment of bearing capacity and restraining settlement of foundations when the bearing capacity of ground is not enough. However, when the design values from exiting Japanese standard are compared with the observation values from the field measurement, the bearing capacity of exiting standard estimated smaller For this reason, it is necessary to establish more reasonable prediction technique considering to understand the behavior of TBF in soft ground. In this study, 1/5 scale model tests were performed in the laboratory. Also, full scale tests were carried out in order to investigate the behavior of TBF with various shapes. In addition, about 100 sites measurement data were evaluated to investigate the behavior of TBF in various ground conditions. Based on the results of the model tests and field measurement data, it was possible to establish more reasonable the bearing capacity equation of TBF considering various N-value of soil, the effect of underground water and failure shapes.

In a NATM tunnel, fully grouted bolts are widely used as part of supporting system. Grouted bolts play an important role not as to take some parts of load acting on a tunnel lining but as to reinforce the ground adjacent the tunnel. In conjunction with tunnel construction, the presence of groundwater may pose a number of difficulties. With respect to tunnel design, influences of groundwater on tunnel behavior have been considered in many aspects. However, the effect on grouted bolts has been rarely investigated. In this study, the behavior of grouted bolts, which are affected by the seepage forces, was examined. To investigate the effects of seepage forces, the theoretical solutions for a drained condition were also found. Based on the theoretical solutions, ground reaction curves considering seepage forces were obtained. By comparing the ground reaction curves supported by grouted bolts with those for the unsupported cases, the effect of reinforcement was evaluated. Finally, through comparison between supported ground reaction curves in the drained condition and those in the case of groundwater flow, it was found that the grouted bolts are more structurely beneficial when the seepage occurs towards the tunnel than when there is no groundwater flow.
The recent huge earthquake ground motion records in Japan result in the reconsideration of seismic design forces for nuclear power stations from the view point of seismological research. In addition, the seismic design force should be defined also from the view point of structural engineering. In this paper it is shown that one of the occurrence mechanisms of such large acceleration in recent seismic records (recorded in or near massive structures and not free-field ground motions) is due to the interaction between a massive building and its surrounding soil which induces amplification of local mode in the surface soil. Furthermore on-site investigation after earthquakes in the nuclear power stations reveals some damages of soil around the building (cracks, settlement and sand boiling). The influence of plastic behavior of soil is investigated in the context of interaction between the structure and the surrounding soil. Moreover the amplification property of the surface soil is investigated from the seismic records of the Suruga-gulf earthquake in 2009 and the 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku earthquake in 2011. Two methods are introduced for the analysis of the non-stationary process of ground motions. It is shown that the non-stationary Fourier spectra can detect the temporal change of frequency contents of ground motions and the displacement profile integrated from its acceleration profile is useful to evaluate the seismic behavior of the building and the surrounding soil.

In general, Korean Lightweight Concrete used Heat insulating material for building and filler for civil construction, backfill material for tunnel, office floor fillers, lightweight blocks and so on. These expand the range of use ALC(autoclaved lightweight concrete) on the soft-ground at regular intervals during road construction by installing piles used as substrates for the process is under study. In this study, behavior characteristics on the soft-ground of pavement analysis was used to test the geo-Centrifuge. Prototype pavement reduced to 1/30 slab form of the composition as kaolinite model tests were conducted in the soft ground. Pile Arrangement (having 36 component pile with an array of $3{\times}12$) was used to group of piles. Tests of gravity 30 level the centrifugal force acting Light-weight pavement models. Based on the Prototype pavement of the behavior characteristics of pavement behavior characteristics were estimated. FMA analysis of the 10 times as big 39.4kg (actual load 35 ton) of the lateral load is applied to the case 7.8mm (actual behavior 23.4mm) behavior was fine.

This paper presents the ground behaviour of shield TBM lunching area during excavation. In order to perform this study, a scaled model test was carried out in the 1/45 scale for a field tunnel in practice where the tunnel had about 7.8 m diameter at Seoul Metro Line 9 construction site. The test to simulate earth pressure balance (EPB) shield TBM tunnelling at the lunching area was conducted with the developed small scaled shield TBM machine. Measurements were performed during simulation of excavation for total jacking thrust force, ground displacements and pressures. Based on the analysis of simulation results, the stability of ground was verified and evaluated. In particular, the suitable reinforcement range and methods are also suggested. In addition, these results are useful for engineers and technicians to select suitable and serviceable machine operation parameters and reduce environmental influence at all stages of tunnel construction.
