High-temperature Drying of Southern Pine Lumber by Green sorting (건조전(乾燥前) 선별(選別)에 의한 Southern pine재(材)의 고온건조(高溫乾燥))

  • This study was performed to investigate the effect of green sorting before drying on the high-temperature drying characteristics of southern yellow pine dimension lumber(2"${\times}$6"${\times}$12'). To test the advantages of weight sorting, green lumber was seperated into heavy(above 55 1b), medium(50-55 1b), and light(below 50 1b)weight classes. Pieces in each weight class were subgrouped into high(above 35%) and low(below 30%) latewood groups. Groups were dried and seperated by a standard commercial high-temperature schedule; dry bulb temperature $245^{\circ}$ F, wet bulb temperature $180^{\circ}$ F, and air velocity 1200fpm. The results obtained were as follows; 1. There was a highly significant correlation between annual rings per inch(X) and percent-latewood(Y). The regression equation was Y=24, 5047+1.3272X. 2. There were highly significant correlations between either annual rings per inch($X_1$) or percent-latewood($X_2$) a.d specific gravity in green wood(Y). Their regression equations were Y=0.4260+0.0081$X_1$ and Y=0.3749+0.0029$X_2$, respectively. 3. Heavier weight charges dried more slowly than lighter weight charges. 4. Board-to-board variation in green or dry moisture content was less for all seperate weight classes than for unseperated control charges. 5. Lower latewood pieces had higher initial moisture content than higher latewood pieces, and then drying time for lower late wood pieces was longer than higher latewood pieces.

  • The requirements for powerful computing capability, high capacity, low latency and low energy consumption of emerging services, pose severe challenges to the fifth-generation (5G) network. As a promising paradigm, mobile edge networks can provide services in proximity to users by deploying computing components and cache at the edge, which can effectively decrease service delay. However, the coexistence of heterogeneous services and the sharing of limited resources lead to the competition between various services for multiple resources. This paper considers two typical heterogeneous services: computing services and content delivery services, in order to properly configure resources, it is crucial to develop an effective offloading and caching strategies. Considering the high energy consumption of 5G base stations, this paper considers the hybrid energy supply model of traditional power grid and green energy. Therefore, it is necessary to design a reasonable association mechanism which can allocate more service load to base stations rich in green energy to improve the utilization of green energy. This paper formed the joint optimization problem of computing offloading, caching and resource allocation for heterogeneous services with the objective of minimizing the on-grid power consumption under the constraints of limited resources and QoS guarantee. Since the joint optimization problem is a mixed integer nonlinear programming problem that is impossible to solve, this paper uses deep reinforcement learning method to learn the optimal strategy through a lot of training. Extensive simulation experiments show that compared with other schemes, the proposed scheme can allocate resources to heterogeneous service according to the green energy distribution which can effectively reduce the traditional energy consumption.

  • Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is one of the most widely adopted silicon-based organic polymeric elastomers. Elastomeric nanostructures are normally required to accomplish an explicit mechanical role and correspondingly their mechanical properties are crucial to affect device and material performance. Despite its wide application, the mechanical properties of PDMS are yet fully understood. In particular, the time dependent mechanical response of PDMS has not been fully elucidated. Here, utilizing state-of-the-art PeakForce Quantitative Nanomechanical Mapping (PFQNM) together with Force Volume (FV) and Fast Force Volume (FFV), the elastic moduli of PDMS samples were assessed in a time-dependent fashion. Specifically, the acquisition frequency was discretely changed four orders of magnitude from 0.1 Hz up to 2 kHz. Careful calibrations were done. Force data were fitted with a linearized DMT contact mechanics model considering surface adhesion force. Increased Young's modulus was discovered with increasing acquisition frequency. It was measured 878 ± 274 kPa at 0.1 Hz and increased to 4586 ± 758 kPa at 2 kHz. The robust local probing of mechanical measurement as well as unprecedented high-resolution topography imaging open new avenues for quantitative nanomechanical mapping of soft polymers, and can be extended to soft biological systems.

Impact of Indoor Green in Rest Space on Fatigue Recovery Among Manufacturing Workers (휴게공간에서의 식물 도입이 생산직 근로자의 피로 회복에 미치는 효과)

  • Manufacturing workers face increased fatigue and stress due to environmental factors in workplace such as noise and vibration. Addressing this issue requires creating conducive rest spaces; however, the existing conditions of rest spaces in manufacturing workplace are subpar and lack sufficient scholarly evidence. This study investigated the effect of nature-based rest spaces on the physical and emotional recovery from fatigue on manufacturing workers. Three manufacturing complexes with nature-friendly rest spaces were selected, and 63 manufacturing workers participated in the study. The measurement tools included the Multidimensional Fatigue Scale (MFS) for fatigue levels, physiological indicators (blood pressure and heart rate), and emotional indicators (Zuckerman Inventory of Personal Reaction Scale; ZIPERS, Perceived Restorativeness Scale; PRS, Profile of Mood States; POMS and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory; STAI). The study compared recovery levels during a 7-minute rest between a space without plants and a space with natural elements. The results indicated a significant reduction in systolic and diastolic blood pressure of participants in green rest spaces compared with those in conventional rest spaces. Regarding fatigue levels, green rest spaces showed a decrease in systolic blood pressure in the middle-fatigue and high-fatigue groups. Positive feelings increased in green spaces, whereas negative emotions decreased, suggesting that short breaks in nature-friendly environments effectively promote workers' physical and emotional recovery. Furthermore, this study emphasizes the importance of green space in various work environments to promote well-being in workers.

The Study to Find Causes for Measuring Differences of Hydrogen Fillings in Hydrogen Refueling Station (수소충전소의 연료 계량 방법에 따른 계량 오차가 발생하는 원인 고찰)

  • There has been an measuring errors between state of charge (SOC; kg) value and mass flow meter (MFM) value in dispenser for hydrogen refueling station. Finally, we observed average 15.5% weight difference between these two values and the MFM readings show a 15.5% higher readout of the SOC readings. Each car was charged with average 2.66 kg of hydrogen fuel during this period. In the initial charging of the day shows less measuring value than the final charging with the maximum 0.038 kg times number of filling. There is no effects of atmosphere temperature change for the hydrogen filled weight during one full year such as January's cold winters and August's hot summers.

  • Rooftop greening is the alternative of urban heat island. The purpose of this study is selecting Sedum to the effect of temperature reduction of the rooftop greening. Since the state of growth is excellent, Sedum kamtschaticum, Sedum takesimense and Sedum middendorffianum surveyed as coverage. It was investigated that there is the effect of reducing the temperature. The effect of temperature reduction of Sedum counted compound was found to be associated with state of growth. When you construct a rooftop greening, planting Sedum kamtschaticum, Sedum takesimense and Sedum middendorffianum is helpful to the effect of temperature reduction. Also, the ingredients various types of Sedum in order to reduce the effective temperature, it must be densified. It must demonstrate an additional effect of temperature reduction of Sedum through complementary and continuous monitoring of the future temperature monitoring method.

A Study of Dietary Life and State of Health of Buddhist Nuns in the Seoul Area (서울 지역 비구니 스님의 식생활과 건강상태에 대한 조사 연구)

  • This survey was conducted to investigate the dietary behavior and health status of Buddhist nuns. In this study, 100 Buddhist nuns in Seoul were selected. The dietary survey was focused on the diet in winter. The age distribution was as follows; 24% of the subjects were in their 20s, 45% in their 30s, 23% in their 40s, and 8% in their 50's and over, respectively. The percentage of the subjects living in temples close to the downtown area was 77% and the rest resided in areas remote to the downtown area. Over fifty percent of the subjects were satisfied with their diet at temple. And 59% of the subjects were eating a snack more than once a day. The snacks included fruits (60%), raditional tea (20%), coffee (9%), bread and cookies (4%), md rice cakes (3%), etc. Among food groups, the intake of green-vegetables and fruits were the highest and intake of milk and bean products were low which may cause calcium and protein deficiency. Most of the subjects believed that their health conditions were average or above average. About 50% of subjects didn't exercise at all. The frequencies of gastro-intestinal diseases and anemia were extremely high. About 50% of subjects took some form of medicine. To improve their health and nutritional status, it is required that they practice a good dietary behavior, maintain a balanced diet, and exercise regularly.

  • Various $Zn_{2-x}SiO_4$:xMn based green phosphors were investigated in association with a co-dopant. The co-dopant incorporated into the phosphors are believed to alter the internal energy state of $Zn_{2-x}SiO_4$ : xMn So that the improvement in their intensity could be expected. Phosphor samples were prepared using the solid state reaction therein raw powders are mixed in the acetone and successively fired at $1300^{\circ}C$ for 4 hour. The fired powders are also heated up to $900^{\circ}C$ for 2 hour in the reduced atmoshpere and thereby giving The fired powders are also heated up to $900^{\circ}C$ for 2 hour in the reduced atmosphere and thereby giving rise to conspicuous enhancement of radiative efficiency. Basically the 0.08 mole ratio of the Mn con-centrations has the maximum value of the intensity so that a co-dopant are added to this Mn con-centration. When the Mg is co-doped with Mn luminescent intensity is proven to be promoted significantly.

Photoluminescence Properties of Green Phosphor Y1-xBO3:Tbx3+ Synthesized by Solid-state Reaction Method (고상 반응법으로 제조한 녹색 형광체 Y1-xBO3:Tbx3+의 형광 특성)

  • [ $Y_{1-x}BO_3:Tb_x^{3+}$ ]ceramic phosphors were synthesized with changing the concentration of $Tb^{3+}$ at a sintering temperature of $1,100^{\circ}C$ and a reduction temperature of $950^{\circ}C$ by using a solid-state reaction method. The crystal structure, surface morphology, and photoluminescence properties of the phosphors were investigated as a function of $Tb^{3+}$ ion concentration by using XRD (x-ray diffractometer), scanning electron microscopy, and photoluminescence spectrophotometry, respectively. The XRD results showed that the main peak of the phosphor powders occurs at (101) plane. As for the photoluminescence properties, the excitation spectra showed the broad band centered at 306 nm and the emission intensity of the spectra peaked at 543 nm indicated a significant decrease as the concentration of $Tb^{3+}$ ion is increased.

The Impact of LEED-Energy Star Certified Office Buildings on the Market Values of Neighboring Areas in New York City

  • Green building certifications are being adopted widely, and existing research continues to show an array of benefits to stakeholders of green certified buildings. However, little attention has been paid thus far to the effects these buildings may have on their surrounding neighborhoods economically. This research examined the effect of LEED and/or Energy Star certification on the neighborhoods surrounding certified office buildings from an economic standpoint with spatial and statistical analyses. This research showed the unit market value of LEED and/or Energy Star certified office buildings and the parameters of LEED and/or Energy Star certification had statistically a positive impact on the median unit market value of their neighborhood areas. The findings can provide useful insights into the possibilities for additional economic benefits of their neighborhoods, encouraging a win-win approach that enhances the local real estate market.
