  • Object segmentation is a demanding research area and not a trivial problem of image processing and computer vision. Tremendous segmentation algorithms were addressed on gray-scale (or biomedical) images that rely on numerous image features as well as their strategies. These works in practice cannot apply to natural color images because of their negative effects to color values due to the use of gray-scale gradient information. In this paper, we proposed a new approach for color object segmentation by modifying a geometric active contour model named distance regularized level set evolution (DRLSE). Its speed function will be designed to exploit as much as possible color gradient information of images. Finally, we provide experiments to show performance of our method with respect to its accuracy and time efficiency using various color images.

  • This paper introduces a vehicle-following-system in which a moving vehicle recognizes the front vehicle's tail-light color and luminance, while maintaining a certain distance and avoiding collision. Using color images rather than using gray-scale images makes it easier to detect the objective color and eliminates the need of a thresholding. The Methods used are RGB to HSV conversion and global region growing method. This paper contributes to the basic study of Color-Vision, and can be extended to color inspection systems.

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest an improvement proposal for colors in urban environment with special regard to the surface color and their situations of apartment buildings in Seoul. For this goal, 167 cases of different color types of apartment buildings were surveyed. And, the survey was performed in the view of color by areas, by localtion, by builder, by paint year, by built year, by appearance of building, and by surface texture to prove the influencing factors on the surface colors. These collected data analyzed and compared with the existing studies to find out the changing trend of colors. The results are as follows : 1) The use of neutral gray($26.4{\%}$) and warm color(YR, Y, GY; 56.4%) were dominant and the usage trend of higher 'value'(87.4%) and lower 'saturation'(73.0%) was obvious. Especially, the use of PB and P was noticeable. 2) In comparing the existing studies, the changing trend in the surface color pattern was found. That is, neutral gray was used dominantly in 1970's, warm color(YR, Y)in the middle of 1980's. In the end of 1980's, warm color were also used dominantly same as before and GY, PB, P were used noticeably with some rising tendency of higher 'value' and lower 'saturation' was obvious. 3) The results of analysis by localtion shows that the different color groups might exist in Seoul city. Neutral gray and YR were dominant in zone I. Warm colors(YR, Y, GY)were prevailed in zone II, III, IV. In zone V, many colors were evenly used. In zone VI, middle values at warm color were dominant. Progressively, these color groups with further study could be considered in the color management in urban environment possibly. 4) Surface color of apartment buildings were different from their builders. 5) Concerned with the painted year, the use of higher 'value' and lower 'saturation' was increased gradually with the change of times. 6) the analysis by the built year revealed that the 'value' of surface colors on the old buildings was lower than that of the new ones. 7) The 'value' of colors on the surface with texture was higher than that of the surface without texture. 8) In the combination of two colors, the use of 'value' with difference at the same 'hue' was found harmonions in many cases, but the 'saturation' in usage was included in the ambiguity (Moon & Spencer's term). The ambiguity in color harmony should be improved in the near future.

  • Recently, there has been an increase in the number of hazardous events, such as fire accidents. Monitoring systems that rely on human resources depend on people; hence, the performance of the system can be degraded when human operators are fatigued or tensed. It is easy to use fire alarm boxes; however, these are frequently activated by external factors such as temperature and humidity. We propose an approach to fire detection using an image processing technique. In this paper, we propose a fire detection method using multichannel information and gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) image features. Multi-channels consist of RGB, YCbCr, and HSV color spaces. The flame color and smoke texture information are used to detect the flames and smoke, respectively. The experimental results show that the proposed method performs better than the previous method in terms of accuracy of fire detection.

  • The typical instrumental assessment of ununiform natural soils has been carried out by yellowing of the specimens instead of the surface reflectance or the calculated formula. However, the regular instrumental area of sample holder is necessary for the measure of yellowing. Therefore, this study attempted to apply image analysis which had full color image by scanning of one time without limitation of instrumental area. The test samples were analyzed pseudo and full color image. This paper evaluated soil with hue of yellowing and gradation of gray level with color image analysis. Then, it was studied propriety of image analysis with correlation of yellowing, hue and gray level. Ultimately, the proposed image analysis in this paper was advanced method against the typical instrumental assessment.

  • Structural and optical characteristics in Se thin film fabricated by EBE method had been studied. Se thin film was deposited with noncrystalline until substrate temperature of >$100^{\circ}C$ Color of its surface had red genealogy, and its optical energy band gap was about 2.45 eV. But Se film was grown with monoclinic at substrate temperature of over >$150^{\circ}C$ Also, color of its surface had gray genealogy, and its optical energy band gap was about 2.31 eV. Finally, after heat-treatment at >$150^{\circ}C$ for 15 min with substrate temperature of >$100^{\circ}C$ noncrystalline Se was proved to be hexagonal, and color of its surface had dark gray genealogy, and its optical energy band gap was about 2.06 eV. From the results, it was known that Se thin film for photoelectric device with the lowest optical energy band gap was accepted from hexagonal structure.

  • Recently, PC monitor users have been replacing cathode ray tubes (CRT) with liquid crystal displays (LCD). But the chromaticity of the primaries are dependent on RGB input signals. And the colorimetry of LCD changes with gray scale and has a poor peformance in color reproduction. In this paper we propose the enhanced algorithm of color reproduction considering color leakage error and black subpixel error in LCD. In order to test peformance of this algorithm we use the colors of Macbeth colorcheck. As a result of experiments, it was confirmed that the color difference of the LCD using the proposed algorithm was considerably reduced.
