  • A new driving scheme, Address and Display Period Complex Driving for Expanding Gray Scale(ACE), is proposed by mixing Address Display period Separated(ADS) and Address While Display(AWD). In this method scan lines are divided in blocks driving by AWD and scan lines in block progress sequential high speed addressing. ADS driving get accomplished in low gray level for expanding gray scale. Scan time is reduced and the number of subfields is increased by high speed addressing of ACE. That expands the gray scale and decreases the dynamic false contour. Also, that improves contrast by using ramp reset.

  • Most of the conventional image thresholding methods are based on the histogram function of the gray values. In this paper, we present a simple but effective example showing that the histogram-based thresholding methods do not perform well. To overcome the difficulty, the authors propose a new gray level threshold selection method based on the distribution of gray levels in images. Finally, we provide simulation results showing the effectiveness of the proposed threshold selection method through several examples.

  • In this paper, we present a novel method to minimize flicker and gray scale errors automatically across the entire panel by using a compensation of the gray levels of image. It was realized by image simulation with feedback structure. As a result of simulation, we observed flickers from the simulated image. And we compensated the gray scale levels for original image. The compensated gray scale levels correspond to flickers which are generated by difference of pixel voltage in odd and even frame. And we simulated repetitively the compensated image by our block diagram for reduction flicker. Consequently, we confirmed flickers have been decreased more than 87%. Furthermore, our method provides visualization and valid prediction for improvement of TFT-LCD panel

  • A kind of image analysis system is used to investigate the structural features of the papers made from Indian mallow. The screen mark on the paper was identified and analyzed. The dusts, shives and fiber bundles were manifested and calculated. In the aspect of Indian mallow hanji's surface characteristics analyzed by an Image analyzer, the average of gray level and its standard deviation hanji from the woody core were rather lower than of bast fiber pulp because of better sheet formation of the formers. Hower. high brightness hanji showed high value of gray level. The sheet formation and paper opacity were increased with the decrease of standard deviation of gray level. From these results, gray level measurement could be used to predict the paper opacity as well as sheet formation.

  • In this study, optimal shot peening process conditions were investigated for improving the cavitation erosion resistance of gray cast iron under a marine environment. Shot peening was performed with variables of injection pressure and injection time. The durability was then evaluated through cavitation erosion test which was conducted according to the modified ASTM G-32 standard. The tendency of cavitation erosion damage according to shot peening process condition was investigated through weight loss rate, surface and cross-sectional analysis of the specimen before and after the test. As a result, the shot peening process condition that could minimize cavitation erosion was when the injection pressure was the lowest and when the injection time was the shortest. This was because the flake graphite exposed on the gray cast iron surface could be easily removed under such condition. Therefore, the notch effect can be prevented by surface modification. In addition, the cavitation erosion damage mechanism of gray cast iron was discussed in detail.

  • The objective of the experiment is to investigate the effect of microstructures of gray cast iron oil wear characteristics of automotive disc brakes. Six different gray cast iron rotors were manufactured by changing carbon equivalent and cooling rate. The change of DTV (disc thickness variation) before and after wear tests was measured to examine the wear properties according to the microstructures of gray iron discs since the DTV generation is caused by the circumferential uneven wear. Experimental results showed that the morphology of graphite flake and hardness in gray cast iron were crucially associated with the change of DTV. In particular, the DTV changes of rotor decrease when the length and area fraction of graphite flake in brake rotors increase and hardness of brake discs reduces.

  • Background : To control ginseng gray mold, farmers have mainly used inorganic chemical based fungicides. The recent emergence of fungicide resistance has reduced the effectiveness of such control methods. Such pesticides also carry additional problems, such as diffuse pollution. Methods and Results : Six treatments of organic agricultural materials were tested for control of ginseng gray mold, CAPW (Chrysophanic acid + Phytoncide + Wood vinegar), EmEWV (Emodin + Ethanol + Wood vinegar), CEWV (Curcumin + Eugenol + Wood vinegar), Bacillus subtilis, soybean oil and sulfur. The control effect for gray mold by a single application of the agrochemical fungicide industrial Fenhexamid wettable powder (WP) was 84.4%. The control effect by CAPW, EmEWV and CEWV varied between 52.7 - 64.9%. The control effect by B. subtilis, soybean oil, and sulfur were 32.9 - 59.2%. Conclusions : In the field tests, CAPW showed the highest control effects when used before, and at first stage of disease incidence, against ginseng gray mold.

  • This study was carried out to develop methods of reducing the effect of solar illumination on pixel gray-levels of machine vision for agricultural field use. Two kinds of monochrome CCD cameras with manual and auto-iris lenses were used to take pictures within a range of 15 to 120 klux of solar illumination. A camera having more precise automatic control functions gave much better result. Four kinds of indices using pixel gray-level of the $99\%$ white DRS (diffuse reflectance standard) as a reference were tried to compensate pixel gray-levels of an image for variable illumination. Coefficients of variation of the indices within a range of illumination were used as a criterion for comparison. The study concluded that an index of (A+B)/A, where A is gray-level of the $99\%$ DRS and B is gray-level of the tested material, gave the best consistency in the range of solar illumination.

  • The narrow band-averaged transmissivity of $CO_2-H_2O$ mixtures is expressed by multiplying the transmissivities of $CO_2$ and $H_2O$. Applying the multiplication property of narrow band transmissivities for gas mixtures of $CO_2-H_2O$, the number of gray gases, required for accurate representation of the absorption characteristics by using the narrow band based WSGGM, is significantly increased. To reduce the computational loads by reducing the number of gray gases, we propose a gray gas regrouping process where the gray gases used for the WSGGM are regrouped into a specified number of groups according to the magnitudes of absorption coefficients. To evaluate the proposed WSGGM for gas mixtures, the radiative transfer problems through three-dimensional gas media are considered. The radiative source terms and the radiative heat fluxes obtained by using the proposed method are fairly well compared to those obtained by using the SNB model. The regrouping technique results in an excellent computational efficiency with minor loss of accuracy.

  • The volatile flavor compounds of the essential oils from Ixeris dentate (Thunb.) Nakai and I. stolonifera A. Gray were investigated. The essential oils were extracted by hydro distillation extraction method. Ninety-three volatile flavor components were identified from I. dentate (Thunb.) Nakai essential oil. Hexadecanoic acid(33.73%) was the most abundant compound, followed by (Z,Z,Z,)-9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid(18.59%), 6,10,14-trimethyl-2-pentadecanonel(10.39%) and phytol(5.21%). Ninety-seven volatile flavor components were identified from the essential oil of I. stolonifera A. Gray. Hexadecanoic acid was the most abundant component(39.7%), followed by (Z,Z,Z)-9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid(12.63%), 9,12-octadecadienoic acid, ethyl ester(12.36%), pentacosane(5.2%) and 6,10,14-trimethyl-2-pentadecanone(3.18%). The volatile composition of I. dentate (Thunb.) Nakai was characterized by higher contents of phytol and phthalides than those of I. stolonifera A. Gray. The volatile flavor composition of I. stolonifera A. Gray can easily be distinguished by the percentage of sesquiterpene compounds against I. dentate (Thunb.) Nakai essential oil.
