Chalcopyrite $CuInSe_2$(CIS) is considered to be an effective light-absorbing material for thin film photovoltaic solar cells. CIS thin films have been electrodeposited onto Mo coated and ITO glass substrates in potentiostatic mode at room temperature. The deposition mechanism of CIS thin films has been studied using the cyclic voltammetry (CV) technique. A cyclic voltammetric study was performed in unitary Cu, In, and Se systems, binary Cu-Se and In-Se systems, and a ternary Cu-In-Se system. The reduction peaks of the ITO substrate were examined in separate $Cu^{2+}$, $In^{3+}$, and $Se^{4+}$ solutions. Electrodeposition experiments were conducted with varying deposition potentials and electrolyte bath conditions. The morphological and compositional properties of the CIS thin films were examined by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The surface morphology of as-deposited CIS films exhibits spherical and large-sized clusters. The deposition potential has a significant effect on the film morphology and/or grain size, such that the structure tended to grow according to the increase of the deposition potential. A CIS layer deposited at -0.6 V nearly approached the stoichiometric ratio of $CuIn_{0.8}Se_{1.8}$. The growth potential plays an important role in controlling the stoichiometry of CIS films.
Interest in use of ink-jet printing for pattern-on-demand fabrication of metal interconnects without complicated and wasteful etching process has been on rapid increase. However, ink-jet printing is a wet process and needs an additional thermal treatment such as an annealing process. Since a metal ink is a suspension containing metal nanoparticles and organic capping molecules to prevent aggregation of them, the microstructure of an ink-jet printed metal interconnect 'as dried' can be characterized as a stack of loosely packed nanoparticles. Therefore, during being treated thermally, an inkjet-printed interconnect is likely to evolve a characteristic microstructure, different from that of the conventionally vacuum-deposited metal films. Microstructure characteristics can significantly affect the corresponding electrical and mechanical properties. The characteristics of change in microstructure and electrical resistivity of inkjet-printed silver (Ag) films when annealed isothermally at a temperature between 170 and $240^{\circ}C$ were analyzed. The change in electrical resistivity was described using the first-order exponential decay kinetics. The corresponding activation energy of 0.44 eV was explained in terms of a thermally-activated mechanism, i.e., migration of point defects such as vacancy-oxygen pairs, rather than microstructure evolution such as grain growth or change in porosity.

Recently, high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HIPIMS) has attracted considerable attentions due to its high potential for industrial applications. By pulsing the sputtering target with high power density and short duration pulses, a high plasma density and high ionization of the sputtered species can be obtained. HIPIMS has exhibited several merits such as increased coating density, good adhesion, microparticle-free and smooth surface, which make the HIPIMS technique desirable for synthesizing hard coatings. However, hard coatings present intrinsic defects (columnar structures, pinholes, pores, discontinuities) which can affect the corrosion behavior, especially when substrates are active alloys like steel or in a wear-corrosion process. Atomic layer deposition (ALD), a CVD derived method with a broad spectrum of applications, has shown great potential for corrosion protection of high-precision metallic parts or systems. In ALD deposition, the growth proceeds through cyclic repetition of self-limiting surface reactions, which leads to the thin films possess high quality, low defect density, uniformity, low-temperature processing and exquisite thickness control. These merits make ALD an ideal candidate for the fabrication of excellent oxide barrier layer which can block the pinhole and other defects left in the coating structure to improve the corrosion protection of hard coatings. In this work, CrN/Al2O3/CrN multilayered coatings were synthesized by a hybrid process of HIPIMS and ALD techniques, aiming to improve the CrN hard coating properties. The influence of the Al2O3 interlayer addition, the thickness and intercalation position of the Al2O3 layer in the coatings on the microstructure, surface roughness, mechanical properties and corrosion behaviors were investigated. The results indicated that the dense Al2O3 interlayer addition by ALD lead to a significant decrease of the average grain size and surface roughness and greatly improved the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the CrN coatings. The thickness increase of the Al2O3 layer and intercalation position change to near the coating surface resulted in improved mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. The mechanism can be explained by that the dense Al2O3 interlayer acted as an excellent barrier for dislocation motion and diffusion of the corrosive substance.
Solar cells made of the edge-defined film-fed growth Si are characterized using current-voltage, surface photovoltage, electron beam induced current, electron microprobe, scanning electron microscopy, and electron backscattering. The weak temperature dependence of the I-V curves in the EFG solar cells is due to a voltage variable shunt resistance giving higher diode ideality factors than the ideal one. The voltage variable shunt resistance is modeled by a modified recombination mechanism which includes carrier tunneling to distributed impurity energy states in the band gap within the space-charge region. The junction integrity and the substrate quality are characterized simultaneously by combining I-V and surface photovoltage (SPV) measurements. The diode ideality factors and the surface photovoltages characterize the junction integrity while the SPV diffusion lengths characterizes the substrate quality. Most of the measured samples show the voltage variable shunt resistance although how serious it is depends on the solar cell efficiency. The voltage variable shunt resistance is understood as one of the most important factors of the degradation of EFG solar cells.

The mixing ratio effect of the GTD-111(base metal) powder and the GNI-3 (Ni-l4Cr-9.5Co-3.5Al-2.5B) powder on TLP(Transient Liquid Phase) bonding phenomena and mechanism was investigated. At the mixing ratio of the base metal powder under $50wt\%$, the base metal powders fully melted at the initial time and a large amount of the base metal near the bonded interlayer was dissolved by liquid inter metal. Liquid insert metal was eliminated by isothermal solidification which was controlled by the diffusion of B into the base metal. The solid phases in the bonded interlayer grew epitaxially from the base metal near the bonded interlayer inward the insert metal during the isothermal solidification. The number of grain boundaries farmed at the bonded interlayer corresponded with those of base metal. At the mixing ratio above $60wt\%$, the base metal powder melted only at the surface of the powder and the amount of the base metal dissolution was also less at the initial time. Nuclear of solids firmed not only from the base metal near the bonded interlayer but also from the remained base metal powder in the bonded interlayer. Finally, the polycrystal in the bonded interlayer was formed when the isothermal solidification finished. When the isothermal solidification was finished, the contents of the elements in the boned interlayer were approximately equal to those of the base metal. Cr-W borides and Cr-W-Ta-Ti borides formed in the base metal near the bonded interlayer. And these borides decreased with the increasing of holding time.
The effect of $BaF_2$ flux in $Y_3Al_5O_{12}:Ce^{3+}$(YAG:Ce) formation was investigated. Phase transformation of $Y_3Al_5O_{12}$(YAG) was characterized by using XRD, SEM, and TEM-EDS, and it was revealed that the sequential formation of the $Y_4Al_2O_9$(YAM), $YAlO_3$(YAP) and $Y_3Al_5O_{12}$(YAG) in the temperature range of 1000-1500$^{\circ}C$. Single phase of YAG was revealed from 1300$^{\circ}C$. In order to find out the effect of $BaF_2$ flux, three modeling experiments between starting materials (1.5$Al_2O_3$-2.5$Y_2O_3$, $Y_2O_3$-$BaF_2$, and $Al_2O_3$-$BaF_2$) were done. These modeling experiments showed that the nucleation process occurs via the dissolution-precipitation mechanism, whereas the grain growth process is controlled via the liquid-phase diffusion route. YAG:Ce phosphor particles prepared using a proposed technique exhibit a spherical shape, high crystallinity, and an emission intensity. According to the experimental results conducted in this investigation, 5% of $BaF_2$ was the best concentration for physical, chemical and optical properties of $Y_3Al_5O_{12}:Ce^{3+}$(YAG:Ce) that is approximately 10-15% greater than that of commercial phosphor powder.

Pre-harvest sprouting(PHS) refers to germinating seeds in the mother plant before harvesting under low dormancy and humid climate, deteriorating grain quality, and rice yield. Rice varieties with floury endosperm(RFE) have been developed to boost domestic rice consumption by invigorating the processed rice industry, reducing milling and environmental cost. However, the PHS tolerance of RFE is relatively low in the rice varieties with transparent endosperm(RTE) since they soak moisture rapidly due to soft endosperm. In this study, Baromi2(BR2), floury endosperm, and Jomyeong1(JM1), PHS tolerance donor, were crossed to improve PHS tolerance. Major agronomic traits and PHS tolerance test of ten F7(BR2/JM1) lines were conducted in NICS, 2022. The evaluations of PHS were carried out according to the method of RDA(2012) with slight modifications. Briefly, three panicles were treated and incubated 25℃ in a growth chamber 35 days after the heading date. Ten PHS tolerance promising lines demonstrated floury endosperm. The heading date of BR2 and JM1 was 7/27 and 8/5, respectively. The heading date of promising lines was 7/23~8/10. The PHS rate of BR2 and JM1 exhibited 56.3% and 10.7%, respectively. However, the PHS rate often promising lines demonstrated 2.4%~52.4%, 3 lines significantly lower than BR2. Further studies such as ABA contents are necessary to elucidate the mechanism of PHS tolerance in BR2/JM1. These results may contribute to developing elite RFE lines with improved PHS tolerance.
The solid phase crystallization behavior of undoped amorphous $Si_{1-x}Ge_{x}$ (X=O to 0.53) alloyfilms was studied by X-ray diffractometry(XRD) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM). Thefilms were deposited on thermally oxidized 5" (100) Si wafer by MBE(Mo1ecular Beam Epitaxy) at 300'C and annealed in the temperature range of $500^{\circ}C$ ~ $625^{\circ}C$. From XRD results, it was found that the thermal budget for full crystallization of the film is significantly reduced as the Ge concentration in thefilm is increased. In addition, the results also shows that pure amorphous Si film crystallizes with astrong (111) texture while the $Si_{1-x}Ge_{x}$ alloy film crystallzes with a (311) texture suggesting that the solidphase crystallization mechanism is changed by the incorporation of Ge. TEM analysis of the crystallized filmshow that the grain morphology of the pure Si is an elliptical and/or a dendrite shape with high density ofcrystalline defects in the grains while that of the $Si_{0.47}Ge_{0.53}$ alloy is more or less equiaxed shape with muchlower density of defects. From these results, we conclude that the crystallization mechanism changes fromtwin-assisted growth mode to random growth mode as the Ge cocentration is increased.ocentration is increased.

ZnO was deposited on sapphire single crystal substrate by an ultrasonic pyrolysis of Zinc Acetate Dehydrate (ZAH) with carrying Ar gas. Through Thermogravimetry-Differential Scanning Calorimetry(TG-DSC), zinc acetate dihydrate was identified to be dissolved into ZnO above $380^{\circ}C$. ZnO deposited at $380-700^{\circ}C$ showed polycrystalline structures with ZnO (101) and ZnO (002) diffraction peaks like bulk ZnO in XRD, and from which c-axis strain ${\Sigma}Z=0.2\%$ and compressive biaxial stress$\sigma=-0.907\;GPa$ was obtained for the ZnO deposited $400^{\circ}C$. Scanning electron microscope revealed that microstructures of the ZnO were dependent on the deposition temperature. ZnO grown below temperature $600^{\circ}C$ were aggregate consisting of zinc acetate and ZnO particles shaped with nanoblades. On the other hand the grain of the ZnO deposited at $700^{\circ}C$ showed a distorted hexagonal shape and was composed of many ultrafine ZnO powers of 10-25 nm in size. The formation of these ulrafine nm scale ZnO powers was explained by the model of random nucleation mechanism. The optical property of the ZnO was analyzed by the photoluminescence (PL) measurement.

The microstructure of a cobalt-base superalloy (ECY768) obtained by an investment casting process was studied. This work focuses on the resulting microstructures arising from different melt and mold temperatures in normal industrial environmental conditions. The characterization of the samples was carried out using optical microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive spectroscopy. In this study, the as-cast microstructure is an ${\alpha}-Co$ (face-centered cubic) dendritic matrix with the presence of a secondary phase, such as $M_{23}C_6-type$ carbides precipitated at grain boundaries. These precipitates are the main strengthening mechanism in this type of alloy. Other minority phases, such as the MC-type phase, was also detected and their presence could be linked to the manufacturing process and environment.
