  • Split-thickness skin grafting (STSG) is the gold standard for coverage of acute burns and reconstructive wounds. However, the choice of the donor site for STSG varies among surgeons, and the scalp represents a relatively under-utilized donor site. Understanding the validity of potential risks will assist in optimizing wound management. A comprehensive literature search was conducted of the PubMed database to identify studies evaluating scalp skin grafting in human subjects published between January 1, 1964 and December 31, 2019. Data were collected on early and late complications at the scalp donor site. In total, 27 articles comparing scalp donor site complications were included. The selected studies included analyses of acute burn patients only (21 of 27 articles), mean total body surface area (20 of 27), age distribution (22 of 27), sex (12 of 27), ethnicity (5 of 27), tumescent technique (21 of 27), depth setting of the dermatome (24 of 27), number of harvests (20 of 27), mean days of epithelization (18 of 27), and early and late complications (27 of 27). The total rate of early complications was 3.82% (117 of 3,062 patients). The total rate of late complications was 5.19% (159 of 3,062 patients). The literature on scalp skin grafting has not yet identified an ideal surgical technique for preventing donor site complications. Although scalp skin grafting provided superior outcomes with fewer donor site complications, there continues to be a lack of standardization. The use of scalp donor sites for STSG can prevent early and late complications if proper surgical planning, procedures, and postoperative care are performed.

  • This paper represents the characteristics of evapotranspiration rate (EVTR) and graft-taking of watermelon grafted seedlings in a graft-taking enhancement system using fluorescent lamps as artificial lighting source. Four air temperature levels of 23, 25, 27 and 29C, three humidity levels of 85, 90 and 95%R.H. and two photosynthetic photon flux (PPF) levels of 30 and 50 ${\mu}$mol m$\^$-2/ S$\^$-1/ were provided to investigate the effects of air temperature, relative humidity and light intensity on EVTR and graft-taking of grafted seedlings. EVTR of grafted seedlings increased with increasing air temperature and the passage of time after grafting. Also EVTR increased with decreasing relative humidity. As relative humidity decreased and air temperature increased, vapor pressure deficit increased and thus EVTR increased. It is required to maintain a low level vapor pressure deficit for suppressing EVTR of grafted seedlings during first 1-2 days after grafting. Therefore, less EVTR at initial stage after grafting would be adequate for smooth joining of the scion and rootstock.

  • Manual grafting is a labor-intensive operation and highly susceptible to human error. Development of grafting robot has been considered as an effective alternative to manual grafting. The study was conducted to investigate the grafting efficiency between the domestically produced automated grafting robot and traditional manual grafting performed in a commercial plug seedling greenhouse. Plug seedlings of pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) 'Buchon' and 'Anseongmatchum' were sown as scions and rootstocks, respectively on March 29, 2013. The grafting was performed by a grafting robot, amateur grafters, and professional grafters on May 31, 2013. After grafting, the seedling efficiencies and seedling characteristics were compared in terms of plant height, the number of success as well as failure of seedling grafts produced in an hour. The results showed that plant heights were most uniform in the grafts performed by the professionals that had a 0.6 cm difference whereas an uneven difference of 2.1 cm difference was observed in plug seedling grafted by an amateur. However, plug seedlings grafted by the grafting robot were found to be uniform with 1 cm plant height difference. Moreover, the maximum number of grafting processed plug seedlings per hour (667 plants) was achieved by the grafting robot on compared with the seedlings grafted (466 plants) by the professionals. Furthermore, the least failure rate of 21.7% was noted upon the usage of grafting robot than the manual grafters. Thus, the results demonstrate that the technology of automated grafting robots is the most appealing and can be employed in commercial plug seedling greenhouses to overcome the drawbacks of manual grafting.

  • Alveolar cleft exists in 75% of cleft patients, In alveolar cleft patients, alar base is widening, palatal fistular formation, maxillary growth disturbance & tooth loss of adjacent area is raised, Alveolar bone grafting, especially iliac bone grafting, is a general treatment method. As operation timing, bone grafting is classified with primary, early secondary, secondary, & late secondary, Here we report cleft width, marginal bone height, bone resorption rate, grafted shape & bone densities after secondary iliac bone grafting was done in the Dept. of oral and maxillofacial surgery of chonbuk national university hospital. We compared cleft width to bone resorption rate and grafted shape. Also, alveolar bone densities of grafted and contralateral site was compared with Emago 3 package? (Oral Diagonostic System, The Netherlands), The data obtained were analyzed using Spearman's rho coefficients and sign test with SPSS for window, The results were obtained as follows. 1. As alveolar cleft width is increase, bone resorption rate is, too. This relation showed significant difference(P<.01). 2, In proximal & distal area, alvolar cleft width and bone graft contour after bone grafting had a reverse proportional difference. It was not significant difference(P>.05). 3. After 3 month, in bone density results by using Emago 3 package? with periapical standard view, occlusal view & panoramic view, differences between grafted bone and alveolar bone of contralateral site didn't show a significant difference(P>.05). Thus, differences of bone densities in the alveolar bones didn't exist.

  • A series of experiments were conducted from 1968 to 1970 to find the transmission effects of the dwarf disease of mulberry tree in connection with inlay grafting and insect vector with the following conclusions: 1. The inlay-grafting of sound scions on diseased roots showed a 30 per cent transmission rate among the successful grafts. The inlay-grafting of diseased scions on sound roots showed a 14 per cent transmission rate among the successful grafts ir the case of scions cut and stored before wintering but no transmission effect in the case of scions prepared after wintering, There were some stocks, among the unsuccesful grasfts of diseased scions upon sound roots, that sprouted out new buds, no transmission effects were found in them, 2. Leafhoppers (Hishimonus disciguttus Walker) collected from areas with no dwarf disease infection were grouped into three plots and let to feed on mulberry tree severely infected by dwarf disease for 7 days, 14 days and 21 days respectively. After these preliminary treatment, the leafhoppers were recollected to be fed on the sound seedling divided into three plots for 10 days, 15 days and 20 days respectively to find the transmission effects. The results are that the 7 day plot showed no transmission effect whereas the 14 day plot showed a 22 per cent disease rate and the 21 day plot 61 per cent rate indicating that the longer the feeding period is the higher the transmission rate.

  • Throughout its 30-year history, the right gastroepiploic artery (GEA) has been useful for in situ grafts in coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The early graft patency rate is high, and the late patency rate has improved by using the skeletonized GEA graft and proper target selection, which involves having a target coronary artery with a tight >90% stenosis. Total arterial revascularization with the internal thoracic artery and GEA grafts is an option for achieving better outcomes from CABG procedures.

  • Grafting is an important skill for the stable supply and production of high quality. However, the shortage of skillful labor has become great difficulty for a mass production of grafting-seedling. In this study, a suitable mechanism for a grafting machine was developed. The following summarize the results of this study: 1. An insertion method was selected for mechanism of the grafting machine without bonding agent, clip, pin. This insertion-grafting method can be applicable to general vegetables and a mass production system. In addition to, this method is suitable for developing the grafting mechanism. 2. Growing point was removed while remaining both cotyledons on rootstock. The productivity of this system was five fold greater than the one of an experienced labor. 3. The rootstock processing was placed on left and scion processing unit was placed on right of the system, then processed rootstock and scion graft by rotating $180^{\circ}$. 4. The efficiency tests on mechanical grafting rate showed 98%.

  • By controlling both the means of grafting and the cast-solution components, no degradation and dimensional change of radiation-induced graft polymerization were found. The electric resistance of styrene-cellulose acetate grafts increases with increasing styrene content, while those for the hydrophilic monomers show no marked effect. In comparison with the grafted cellulose acetate membrane by simultaneous irradiation method, the appearance of the grafted membrane by post-polymerization method was not markedly changed irrespective of the percent of grafting and radiation dose of electron beam or ${\gamma}$-ray. The combination of crosslinking agents such as divinyl benzene (OB) or trimethyl propane triacrylate (TMPT) in the VP:St:BPO system leads to gradual increase of the percent of grafting. The activation energy for grafting of St:VP:BPO solution onto cellulose acetate membrane was determined to be about 21.8 Kcal/mole over the range of 55$^{\circ}$-8$0^{\circ}C$. The initial rate of grafting (in %/hr) is proportional to the power 0.76 for dose intensities.

  • Hovenia dulcis var. koreana Nakai, the oriental raisin tree, has been considered not only fruit but an herbal medicine in East Asia including Korea, Japan and east China. As honey plant, value of this species had been rising steadily. The aim of this study was conducted to develop the propagation technique by scion collection time, scion age and vinyl house on survival rate of H. dulcis. The survival rate by veneer grafting showed no significant differences among 3 new cultivars. The scion collection at the northern temperature zone was observed to be the most appropriate time before the spring equinox when the plants are fully dormant. Especially, the installation of vinyl house showed 86% survival rate by veneer grafting. The scion age was effective 1 year shoot than 2 years shoot for increase the grafting survival rate. In this case, the installation of vinyl house can contribute above 80%.
