The Youngsan River estuary was physically changed by the construction of a sea embankment at near the mouth of estuary. Weirs were also constructed recently in the freshwater zone and it was reported that algal blooms occur more frequently. The freshwater introduced into saltwater zone from sluice gates of the embankment affects water quality but it has not been addressed that how the freshwater inputs influence the health of marine ecosystem. In this study, we used the data of water properties and phytoplankton communities collected at three stations for 4 days including before the freshwater discharge, during the discharge and after 1 and 2 days of discharge events. WQI(water quality index), TRIX (trophic status index) and P-IBI(phytoplankton index of biotic integrity) were used to evaluate the ecosystem health and long-term data were also utilized to determine the criteria for P-IBI. The results showed that grades of the ecosystem health assessed by the indices were low at the station near the gates and increased as downstream. However, the temporal pattern of grades was different depending on methods. Grades of WQI and TRIX decreased during the discharge and restored after the discharge whereas the grades of P-IBI decreased slightly even after the discharge. This suggests that P-IBI is more applicable to estuarine systems where experience extreme change of water properties than WQI and TRIX since P-IBI includes phytoplankton that can respond quickly to the change.
The 7th Science Curriculum of Korea is applied in elementary schools from 2000, and the New Science Curriculum of Japan is applied in schools from 2002. In this study, we made a comparison between the 7th Science Curriculum of Korea and the New Science Curriculum of Japan in relation to Elementary school in aspects of construction, aim, and contents. The major findings of this study are as follows. 1. The New Science Curriculum of Japan presents a specific aim, treatment of content, and process skills according to grade, but the 7th Science Curriculum of Korea does not classify them according to grade. Hence the 7th Science Curriculum of Korea emphasize on the sequence between grades. 2. In aim of Science Curriculum, the 7th Science Curriculum of Korea show more emphasis on the practical application than the New Science Curriculum of Japan. 3. In construction of content, a area of science content is handled with gradual advance in several grades and several areas of content are treated in a grade in the 7th Science Curriculum of Korea. On the contrary, a area of content is treated intensively in a grade in the New Science Curriculum of Japan. Therefore, the 7th Science Curriculum of Korea shows more reflection of connection and hierarchy between grades. 4. The statements of the 7th Science Curriculum of Korea are centering around specific matters and include specific activities, but the New Science Curriculum of Japan focuses on concepts to team and does not state specific activities.

Purpose: To investigate the status of health education courses in elementary schools. Method: From September to December in 2003, 607 school nurses were surveyed by questionnaires. Results: 1) Of the schools, 32.1% had health education programs as part of the school health service. A higher proportion was found in schools in suburban and rural areas. Mass media in health education was used by 75% of school nurses. Regular classes were more frequently utilized in schools in rural areas, while the classes in health-related subjects were utilized in urban areas. For 20.6% of school nurses, there was a substitute person to provide health care while the nurse was in health education classed, but 94.2% of school nurses found they had to give up health education due to pressure from other health services. 2) Of the nurses, 97.0% felt the need to provide health education courses, but 60.6% insisted that their work load needed to be modified and supplemental personnel were necessary if health education courses were to be provided. 3) More than 30% school nurses responded that educational materials and media, and concern by teachers and administrators were insufficient. 4) School nurses suggested that the content for health education courses should include healthy life and dental health care for students in lower grades, dental health care, sex education and safety for students in middle grades, and sex education and drug abuse prevention for students in higher grades. Conclusion: There is an urgent need to provide health education courses in elementary schools but conditions in the schools are not satisfactory. For successful school health services, personnel supplement, modified work loads and sufficient educational materials and media should be in place before health education courses are provided.
On the Scholastic Achievement Test grads it was compared Chung Nam's with Cheon Puk by dividing a city, a farm village, a fishing village and a mountine village. The results were as follows ; 1. The regional difference of arerage grades were that the first is a large city, the second amiddle city, the third a mountine villgae, the fourth a fishing village, the last a farm village all the same Chung Nam and Cheon Puk. 2. The grades of acity and a farm of Chung Nam are higher then these of Cheon Puk. 3. Cheon Puk is higher than Chung Nam on a middle city, a mountine and a fishing's grades. 4. The characteristic was that the region of non benefits of civilization effect obstruction of intelligence less than a city mountine village. 5. It is considered that the obstruction of intelligence may diminish when eating marine products at a fishing village than a city-fishing village by side dish. From the above results, acknowledging a regional charater, it is suggested that improrement of food life imitate city shund sublate lest the physiological function of Bie Wee(脾胃) should converse a puthological state, get out of the food life civilization misled abnormal food life to normal. Systemic study must continue for maintaining of tradition of regional difference food life. By that manner excellent food life civilization may creat. Therefore it is recognized that experience accumulation of Oriental Medicine theory also close contact food life, so may make constent effort.
Objective : Pain has long been regarded as a subjective symptom. Recently, however, some regard a type of intractable chronic pain as a disease. Furthermore, chronic persistent pain becomes a cause of permanent impairment (PI) In 6th edition, the American Medical Association (AMA) Guides has rated the pain as a PI. In Korea, pain has been already been rated as a PI. Here, we examined the present status and the prospect of disability evaluation for the pain in Korea. Methods : Pain can be rated as a PI by the Workmen's Compensation Insurance Act (WCIA) and Patriots and Veterans Welfare Corporation Act (PVWCA) in Korea. We examined the definition, diagnostic criteria and grades of the pain related disability (PRD) in these two acts. We also examined legal judgments, which were made in 2005 for patients with severe pain. We also compared the acts and the judgments to the criteria of the 6th AMA Guides. Results : The PRD can berated as one of the 4 grades according to the WCIA. The provisions of the law do not limit the pain only for the complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). The PRD can berated as one of the 3 grades by the PVWCA. If there were objective signs such as osteoporosis, joint contracture and muscle atrophy corresponding to the CRPS, the grade is rated as 6. When the pain always interferes with one's job except easy work,the grade is rated as high as 5. In Korea, judicial precedents dealt the pain a sa permanent disability in 2005. Conclusion : Although there were no objective criteria for evaluation of the PRD, pain has been already rated as a PI by the laws or judicial precedents, in Korea. Thus, we should regulate the Korean criteria of PRD like the AMA 6th edition. We also should develop the objective tools for evaluation of the PRD near in future.

The purpose of this paper was to classify areas demanding to be transformed to green spaces and evaluate their grades for urban park and green networks. The results of this study are summarized below; 1. The results of the classified green spaces in the research areas fall into three types including children parks, neighborhood parks, and public green spaces. The three types of green spaces were analysed with recreational indexes. The zones disturbing the green-networks were sorted out. These zones should be changed into a supplementary green spaces for improving the recreational functions in the city. 2. For urban park and green networks, distances between the parks and size of the parks were adopted as indices. Based on the index of distances between the parks, disturbing zones were evaluated with 3 grades. The first grade includes primary industrial complexes and housing complexes. The second grade was observed mostly in industrial complex areas. The third grade includes housing complexes. Based on the indexes of size of parks, disturbing zones were evaluated with 2 grades. In the case of grade I, it appeared in housing complex. In the case of grade II, it appeared in industrial complex. 3. Then, we prioritized the disturbing zones with severity in order to make supplementary green spaces. Through the process, the zones of the grade I for two each recreational index were evaluated to two grades. The analysis results of evaluated zones were that grade II appeared over industrial and housing complexes widely. Grade I appeared over housing complexes. 4. It is necessary that the grade of disturbing zones should be considered as an order to make green spaces to supplement a green-network. For this, we formed a basic frame of a green-networks in Dalsu-Gu and placed the disturbing zones on the basic frame of a green-network. Consequently, The results were that the green-networks in Dalsu-Gu was composed on four green-network axes and its shape mirrored a cruciform (+) of northwest$\leftrightarrow$southeast direction and southwest$\leftrightarrow$northeast direction.
The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for a form of gait by comparing and analyzing gait motions on different grades and speeds. In order to accomplish the purpose, 6 university students, whose ages between 20 - 25, were selected. They have gaited on 3Km/h, 4Km/h, 5Km/h of speed and 4 video cameras were used to film them. The speed of filming was 60 frame / seconds. The special variations of kinematics in gait were fixed with ankle joint angle, knee joint angle, hip joint angle, ankle angular velocity, knee angular velocity and hip angular velocity. In this study, the SPSS 10.0 for windows statistical package was used to operate on significant level of .05 for statistical management. From the result of this study, we have succeeded to obtain following conclusions; 1. As the speed increased, the value of ankle joint angle increased. Also the value of ankle joint angle was larger on decline than on incline. 2. As the speed increased, the value of knee joint angle was increased. 3. As the speed increased, the value of hip joint angle was decreased. 4. As the speed increased, the value of ankle angular velocity increased. And the value of ankle angular velocity became higher on decline than on incline. 5. The value of knee angular velocity showed higher on decline than on incline. 6. As the speed increased, the value of hip angular velocity was increased. Also the value of hip angular velocity became higher on incline than on decline.
A nutrition survey of elementary school children in urban areas was undertaken in December of 1986, to investigate nutritional status in relation to school lunch programs. A total of 284 children in the grades from the 4th to the 6th of Myongsudai elementary school, consisting of three groups ; 1) children taking school lunch every day, 2) children taking school lunch intermittently, 3) children not taking at all, were studied. The group of children taking school lunch every day showed higher values of dietary intake, anthropometric measurements and biochemical findings, compared to those of the other groups, in general. These data underscore the necessity of nation wide school lunch programs for whole school children of Korea.
Now in Korea, the 7th curriculum reform is underway. The main difference of the seventh curriculum compared with former curricula is that it puts much emphasis on individual difference. It is a "differentiated" curriculum. The basic directions of the 7th mathematics curriculum are as follows: 1. Offer various mathematical subjects for "Selective Educational Period" (Grades 11 and 12). 2. 30% reduction of mathematical contents. 3. The reconciliation of domain names of school mathematics. 4. The use of computers and calculators in mathematics classrooms.
This study was conducted to investigate the relationships between the patterns of elementary school teachers' explanations and the patterns of students' questions types on scientific phenomena. for the purposes of this study, we collected questions related to scientific phenomena from 255 $3rd{\sim}6th$ students in 2 elementary schools. Classifying the students' questions collected, 20 representative questions for each type were selected. Data regarding teachers' scientific explanation from 62 teachers of 3 elementary schools were also collected. The results of the analysis of the questions for each science field show that the students in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades have the most questions regarding biology, and those in the 6th grade have more questions regarding earth science. Regarding question types, object exploration questions and explican exploration questions formed the majority. Moreover, the higher the students' grades, a decrease in the number of conjectural questions and an increase in the number of causal questions were observed. As a result of the analysis of the teachers' explanation, the following explanation types could be discerned; conjecture, hypothesis, prediction, teleological explanation, information given to feed exploration questions, as well as verification and information supply fer verification purposes. There were 4 kinds of relationships between question types and explanation types. One was the explanation fitting to each question type, a second was the explanation with additional content than the question required, a third was where the explanation was inappropriate to the question, and a forth was where the teacher responded that they "don't know." This study, investigating the relationships between questioning as a scientific inquiry process and explanation, will help to promote discussion regarding science classes in elementary school.
