  • As the scarcity of natural resources has become apparent, the recycling industry has emerged as a promising one for its growth potential. Yet, the recycling industry still remains undeveloped and inefficient for various reasons. In this study, we focus on firms' recycling processes to understand the current status of recycling firms' value creation activities. With respect to the adopted recycling processes, we empirically investigate the differences in firm characteristics and firm performance. We use the data from Keco (Korea Environment Cooperation) which annually conducts a survey of recycling firms in Korea. We exclusively consider the whole group of plastic recycling industry in order to control for a possible bias in firm performance, stemming from the heterogeneity in processing and recycling of materials other than plastics. We review the descriptive statistics from the sample firms and conduct a series of hierarchical regression analyses. The results show that most of the firms in this industry adopt physical transformation processes with a low-level technology. These firms with physical transformation processes are smaller in size and produce entry level items which do not secure higher margins. The results indicate that the recycling industry largely comprises low value added firms which lack economies of scale and resources for R&D. For the stable growth of the industry, recycling firms must create sustainable values through implementation of technology-driven processes and improvement in product quality. In addition, the government should help build a reliable reverse logistic network, lower the entry barriers, and provide necessary funding for the SMEs in the recycling industry.

  • In government procurement programs, cost estimation and analysis support funding decisions and are the basis for other major decisions, too. Such estimating and analyzing the cost of the weapon systems are crucial in execution of the defense budget. However, existing cost estimations and analyses have focused on domestic R&D projects, thus those are not valid in application to foreign weapon acquisitions. This study aims at foreign weapon systems that are acquired from Direct Commercial Sales. Because the data for price estimation of a foreign weapon is usually not available, we suggest a price estimation model based on performance factors of the weapon. In this study, the proper price of the weapon system is estimated using the parametric cost estimating model. Using the data of helicopter-launched anti-tank guided missiles worldwide, we analyze the effect of each performance factor on the weapon system price by regression analysis, and use step-wise and ridge regression analysis to remove multi-collinearity. This study hopefully contributes to more reasonable decision making on proper price of weapons.

Research design, data, and methodology - This study was conducted with previous researches centered on cases applied in various industry sectors on the basis of blockchain technology. Results - General fields of blockchain application include digital contents distribution, IoT platform, e-Commerce, real-estate transaction, decentralized app. development(storage), certification service, smart contract, P2P network infrastructure, publication/storage of public documents, smart voting, money exchange, payment/settlement, banking security platform, actual asset storage, stock transaction and crowd funding. Blockchain is being applied in various fields home and abroad and its application cases can be explained in the banking industry, public sector, e-Commerce, medical industry, distribution and supply chain management, copyright protection. As examined in the blockchain application cases, it is expected to establish blockchain that can secure safety through distributed ledger in trade transaction because blockchain is established and applied in various sectors of industries home and abroad. Parties concerned of trade transaction can secure visibility even in interrupted specific section when they provide it as a base for distributed ledger application in trade and establish trade transaction model by applying blockchain. In case of interrupted specific section by using distributed ledger, blockchain model of trade transaction needs to be formed to make it possible for parties concerned involved in trade transaction to secure visibility and real-time tracking. Additionally, management should be possible from the time of contract until payment, freight transfer to buyers through land, air and maritime transportation. Conclusions - In order to boost blockchain-based logistics/distribution industry, the government, institutionally, needs to back up adding legal plan of shipping, logistics and distribution, reviewing standardization of electronic switching system and coming up with blockchain-based industrial road maps. In addition, the government, technologically, has to support R&D for integration with other high technology, standardization of distribution industry's blockchain technology and manpower training to expand technology development.

  • This paper is on the policy proposal for venture ecosystem. First, one of the three secrets of the US venture ecosystem is the law of 50:50. Angel capital investment is as important as venture capital investment. Although professional angel investors and accelerators account for as much as VC in the venture ecosystem, they are ignored from policy considerations. We argue that the revision of related law is urgent. Second, large US firms invest more in M&As than in internal R&D. Therefore, accelerators and professional angel investors could make effective investment recovery after investing in a startup company. In other words, angel capital does not come in without secondary market development. Angel capital and secondary markets are the two pillars of the venture ecosystem. The government alone is difficult to develop a secondary market. This is why the private sector should come in and introduce corporate venture capital (CVC). Third, we believe the policy direction for national economic growth should be extended from the startup to scale-up. This is because the startup's sales and job creation will start in five years. While the previous study focused on funding (venture financing), this paper aims to balance all three stages of a venture: startup, growth, and recovery, which are the life cycle of a venture company or venture investment. In particular, we propose specific policies in each chapter to improve practical application.

  • Today, due to the 4th industrial revolution and extensive R&D funding, domestic companies have begun to possess world-class industrial technologies and have grown into important assets. The national government has designated it as a "national core technology" in order to protect companies' critical industrial technologies. Particularly, technology leaks in the shipbuilding, display, and semiconductor industries can result in a significant loss of competitiveness not only at the company level but also at the national level. Every year, there are more insider leaks, ransomware attacks, and attempts to steal industrial technology through industrial spy. The stolen industrial technology is then traded covertly on the dark web. In this paper, we propose a system for detecting industrial technology leaks in the dark web environment. The proposed model first builds a database through dark web crawling using information collected from the OSINT environment. Afterwards, keywords for industrial technology leakage are extracted using the KeyBERT model, and signs of industrial technology leakage in the dark web environment are proposed as quantitative figures. Finally, based on the identified industrial technology leakage sites in the dark web environment, the possibility of secondary leakage is detected through the PageRank algorithm. The proposed method accepted for the collection of 27,317 unique dark web domains and the extraction of 15,028 nuclear energy-related keywords from 100 nuclear power patents. 12 dark web sites identified as a result of detecting secondary leaks based on the highest nuclear leak dark web sites.
