Examining Hegemony, Ideology, and Class in Mani Ratnam's Raavanan (2010)

  • Cultures often adopt the good versus evil dichotomy within their narratives of religious texts, aural anecdotes, and cultural mythologies. The Ramayana narrates a divine story that transcends time of the battle between the forces of good and evil, between Prince Rama and Ravana. Numerously adapted through time, the Ramayana is today told through moving visuals and has been adapted by Mani Ratnam through Raavanan (2010). Raavanan is adapted to the premise of hero versus villain using the good versus evil premise as Dev Prakash (Rama) searches to rescue his wife Raagini (Sita), who is abducted by Veeraiya (Ravana). The film, however, departs from the Ramayana as Raavanan is told through the perspective of Veeraiya. In the film, Veeraiya is portrayed as a flawed anti-hero who battles against injustice instead of being the antagonist. He seeks revenge for his sister and stands up against the oppression of his tribe. In this battle, he questions ideological understandings of justice and morality that have been conventionally interpellated within society. This paper discusses how Mani Ratnam, through the film Raavanan, contests hegemony, ideology, and class differences within modern cinema and society alongside the more significant question surrounding India's sociocultural conditions.

아이다부스트(Adaboost)와 원형기반함수를 이용한 다중표적 분류 기법 (Multi-target Classification Method Based on Adaboost and Radial Basis Function)

  • 최근 기계학습 분야에서 커널머신을 이용한 대표적 분류기로 Adaboost가 주목받고 있다. Adaboost는 통계적 학습이론에 기반하여 뛰어난 일반화 성능을 보여주며, 다양한 패턴인식 문제에 적용되고 있다. 그러나, Adaboost는 이진 분류기이므로 다중표적 분류 문제에 곧바로 적용할 수 없다. 일반적으로 다중 분류 문제를 해결하는 기법으로 One-Vs-All 기법과 Pair-Wise 기법이 대표적이다. 이러한 두 기법은 다중 분류 문제를 여러 개의 이진 분류 문제로 분할하고, 이들을 다시 종합하여 최종 결정을 내리는 출력코딩이라는 일반적인 기법으로 실제 시스템 구성에 적합할만한 분류 성능을 보여주지 못하는 경우가 대부분이다. 본 논문에서는 이진 분류기인 Adaboost의 다중 분류 확장 방안으로 원형 기반 함수를 약한 분류기로 이용하는 Adaboost 기반 다중표적 분류 기법을 제안한다.

  • This paper analyzes how a social status is symbolized by clothing in Charles Dickens' novel 「The Tale of Two Cities」. The result shows that clothing symbols of he upper class people are splendid, perfect, good material, beautiful, younger looking, and fashionable. Meanwhile, those on the middle class people are neat, unpretentious, simple, practical, following fashion, and graceful. Finally, those on the lower class people are unfitted, disordered, careless, worn and shabby, unclean, disharmonious, coarse, and uniform.

  • This paper presents a simple class-D stereo amplifier using 3-phase full bridge circuit configurations which is controlled by a new current control switching method. Although this class-D amplifier has an only one current control loop with the proposed switching method, a good performance can be obtained. In this paper, a strategy for driving stereo signal amplifier with 3-phase full bridge is discussed. With the experimental results, usefulness of the proposed amplifier is confirmed.

  • In this research analyzed the daily precipitation depths of 4 climatic stations in south eastern part of Korea. It aimed to present some indices for regionalization of the area. The items are frequency distributions of precipitation quantity and days and the longest days less than class limit set up by arithmetic differences. The regression analysis between class value and frequency show very good correlation coefficients better than 0.99 which are cubic equation for the precipitation, exponential equation for the precipitation days, and first degree equation for the longest day less than class limit.

Application of Distance Education for Mathematics of Junior High School

  • Recently a new type of educational method through the internet, distance education, has been developed with technology development. To find out any complement between distance education and traditional in-class education, a series of study with junior high school mathematics were conducted. Both distance education and in-class education have merits and shortcomings. Some advantages with distance education shown from the study can be used for complement to in-class education depending on the contents and subjects. Distance education in mathematics education can be a good turning point for future education.

  • 펜데믹 시대가 도래하면서 비대면 수업이 실시되고 있으며, 많은 교과에서 비대면 수업의 효과에 대한 연구도 많이 진행되고 있다. 특히, 프로그래밍 수업은 지식 전달과 실습을 겸하는 특성을 가진 과목으로 비대면 수업의 경우에 학생들의 인식면에서 어떤 특성을 보여주는지 알아보기 위하여 비대면 수업과 대면 수업을 각각 실시한 후에 학생들에게 설문 조사하였다. 수업에서의 질문과 응답 용이성, 수업 내용의 이해 및 수업에의 몰입에서는 전통적인 대면 수업이 좋다고 응답한 학생수가 많았으며, 실습 시간 확보 및 수업 제어 면에서는 비대면 수업이 좋다고 응답한 학생수가 많았다. 이와 같은 연구 결과를 활용하면 효과적인 프로그래밍 수업을 계획하는데 도움이 될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

국부의치 제작을 위한 보철의뢰 서식의 기록에 관한 임상적 연구 (A Study of Prosthetic Prescriptions sent to the Laboratories for Removable Partial Denture Framework)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the removable partial denture prescriptions including surveyed crowns and design of component parts sent to the laboratory technician. A total of 351 casess with prescription forms and master cast in maxillary and mandibular semi-edentulous situations collected from dental laboratory by random sampling were selected for this study. The evaluation and study observed here involved the classification of edentulous situations, status of abutment splinting, form of rest seats and guiding plane of surveyed crows, location of maxillary major connectors and tripodig marks on the master casts. Removable partial denture prescriptions contained (1) general request (upper and lower cast framework), (2) types of metal, (3) location of retainer(retention, lingual bracing, rest area, guiding plane surface), (4) location and type of major connector, (5) relief area and amount, (6) and other specific instructions. The following informations based on the classified groups such as Group I was those cases sent with no real prescriptions. They say 'make a partial.' No prescriptions, no thought beforehand, Group II was those cases sent with a minimal prescriptions. They say 'make a partial with clasps on May be some preparations, usually inadequate. Group III was those cases sent with a moderately good prescription. Adequate but could be much better. No tripoding but it tell what clasps go where. Still not good prescriptions. Group IV was good cases, tripoded with adequate prescriptions and a prescription which exactly describes what is expected from the laboratory. The analyzed results were as follows: 1. The normal form of rest seats and guiding plane of surveyed crowns in Class. I and Class. II edentulous situations on the maxillary cast were observed 31.9% and 27.89%, respectively. The abutment teeth and retainer without occlusal rests of Class. I and Class. II were showed 11.58% and 8.86%, respectively. In mandibular cases, the normal form of rest seats and guiding plane of surveyed crowns showed 27.54% and 8.82% in Class. I and Class. II situation. The abutment teeth and retainer without rest seats were showed 15.19%, respectively. 2. The splinted surveyed crowns of Class. I and Class. II maxillary edentulous situations in distal extension cases were showed 34.51% and 28.85%, but 28.52% and 10.29%, respectively. 3. The location and type of maxillary major connector delineated on the master cast were 66 cases (44.89%). 4. The results of 351 cases were classified as Group I 146(41.59%), Group II 115 (32.76%), Group III 57 (16.23%), and Group IV 33 (9.48%). 5. The delineation of abutment tooth for clasping were 176 cases (50.14%) among total of 351 cases. 6. The delineation of height of contour line were showed 45 cases (12.8%) in Group II, 14 cases (3.98%) in Group III and 33 cases (9.40%) in Group IV with total 92 cases (26.21%). 7. In surveying procedure, the delineation of tripoding marks and reference line were showed 17 cases (4.84%).

  • Chemistry laboratory class was produced for senior high school freshmen with the cooperation of university staffs, high school teachers and the university students. Although the students who will take the lab class are senior high school freshmen, we decided to prepare four experiments that are simple and have highly visible reactions or transformation. That is, 1) Water purification, 2) Surface modification, 3) Briggs-Rauscher reaction, and 4) Polymer synthesis and characterization. After the safety guideline and experiment instructions by the faculty staffs, two teaching assistants (TAs) supervised each experiment. Since taking a direct part in it will provide stronger impact than only being one who is just watching the experiment, all experiments contained some process that the high school students must handle the reagents, tools or the equipment, by themselves. Although, the operation performed by the students was limited to a series of simple actions, the various unique phenomena presented by the experiments impressed the students. The lab class was fruitful not only for high school students, but also good for university students. The lab class provided good opportunity for them to improve the abilities to teach and guide someone.

치위생(학)과 학생의 온라인 수업 질에 대한 만족도 조사 연구 (A Survey Study on Online Learning Quality Satisfaction in Dental Hygiene Students)

  • 본 연구는 치위생(학)과 학생의 온라인 수업 질에 대한 만족도를 파악하고자 2021년 2월 3일부터 2월 17일까지 강원도 내 대학의 치위생(학)과 재학생 최종 228명을 대상으로 조사하였다. 분석결과, 좋은 수업 구성요소 별 온라인 수업 만족도는 중요도에 비하여 전반적으로 낮게 인식하였으며, 학습환경의 만족도가 중요도에 비하여 낮게 나타났다. 좋은 수업 세부 구성요소 별 온라인 수업의 중요도와 만족도의 차이는 수업의 체계성, 온라인 학습환경, 수업내용의 전달력에서 비교적 큰 차이를 보였다. 온라인 학습 콘텐츠 필요도는 수업자료와 VOD가 높게 나타났으며, 수업운영 유형의 만족도는 비실시간 수업이 높게 나타났다. 따라서 온라인 수업의 교수-설계 수립 시 질 개선을 위한 지속적인 노력이 필요하다고 생각된다.
