AISI 304 stainless steel has high resistance to corrosion due to the presence of a self-healing chromium oxide film on the surface, which also accounts for the difficulty in plating. Surface cleaning of this alloy is of fundamental importance in gold plating since its effectiveness puts an upper limit on the quality of the final coating. The cleaning of AISI 304 stainless steel was investigated with elimination of artificial passive oxide film and degreasing of remaining buffing wax as stearic acid. The familiar cleaning methods i.e. ultrasonic cleaning, electro-cleaning and activation treatment were fabricated in this study. Activation treatment showed best cleaning efficiency for elimination of passive oxide film among these methods, which was also confirmed by AES (Auger electron spectrometer) analysis. However, the best condition of cleaning was obtained by combining these methods. Electrocleaning time, for degreasing the stearic acid layer, was decreased with increasing amount of added KCN.
Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the changes in hardness and microstructure of a dental multipurpose alloy after simulated complete firing with controlled cooling rate and holding time by characterizing the changes in hardness and microstructure after simulated firing with various cooling rates and holding times. Methods: Before hardness testing, the specimens were solution treated and then were rapidly quenched into ice brine. The specimens were completely fired in furnace. Hardness measurements were made using a Vickers microhardness tester. The specimens were examined at 15 kV using a field emission scanning electron microscope. Results: The maximum hardness value was obtained at stage 0 after simulated firing with various cooling rates (quick cooling, stage 0, stage 1, stage 2, stage 3). By the repetitive firing, the hardness of the tested alloy decreased gradually. By holding the specimen at $500^{\circ}C$ for 10-20min after simulated firing, the hardness increased apparently. However, to hold the alloy for long periods of time in the relatively high temperature after simulated firing resulted in the formation of thick oxidation layer. The oxide film formed on the surface of the alloy after simulated complete firing with controlled cooling rate, which was mainly composed of O and Zn. Conclusion: It is reasonable to hold the alloy at $500^{\circ}C$ for 10-20min after complete firing in other to improve the final hardness of the alloy.
Indirect composite resins are used as an popular effective esthetic material in prosthetic dentistry, often with metallic substructure that provides support for restorations. Recently, new indirect composite resins as a substitute of ceramic have been developed. These resins provide good esthetics, with a wide range of hue and chroma. And the flexural strength of those is in the range of 120-150MPa, Which is higher than that of feldspathic Ceramic, and similar th that of Dicor. Although it has many merits, one of the major clinical problems of composite resins is the bond failure between metal and resin due to insufficient interfacial bond strength. The purpose of this study was to evaluate shear bond strength of the reinforced indirect composite resin to dental alloys. Three different composite resin systems($Artglass^{(R)},\;Sculpture^{(R)},\;Targis^{(R)}$) as test groups and ceramic($VMK\;68^{(R)}$) as control group were bonded to Ni-Cr-Be alloy($Rexillium\;III^{(R)}$) and gold alloy(Deva 4). All specimens were stored at $^37{\circ}C$ distilled water for 24 hours and the half of specimens were thermocycled 2000 times at temperature from $5^{\circ}C\;to\;60^{\circ}C$. The shear bond strengths of reinforced indirect composite resins to dental alloys were measured by using the universal testing machine, and modes of debonding were observed by stereoscope and scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows: 1 The shear bond strengths of reinforced indirect composite resins to dental alloys were approximately half those of ceramic to dental alloys(P<0.01). 2. There was no significant difference between the shear bond strength of several reinforced indirect composite resins to metal. 3. Alloy type did not affect on the shear bond strengths of resin to metal, but the shear bond strengths of ceramic to gold alloys were higher than those of ceramic to Ni-Cr alloys(P<0.05). 4. The shear bond strengths of Artglass and Targil to gold alloys were significantly decreased after thermocycling treatment(P<0.01). 5. Sculpture showed cohesive, adhesive, and mixed failure modes, but Artglass and Targis showed adhesive or mixed failures. And ceramic showed cohesive and mixed failures.

Gilt bronze locks(Treasure No. 1141) excavated from Hancheonsa temple are artifacts of Goryeo Dynasty. The locks underwent a conservation process from October 2001 to July 2002. The process included cleaning and the application of corrosion inhibitors, Benzotriazolesolution, as well as reinforcement treatment with Paraloid NAD-10 solution,an acrylic resin. Non-destructive XRF analysis unveil that the artifacts are made of an alloy of copper(Cu), tin(Sn) and lead(Pb), but the gilt layer is too thin to analyze the purity of the gold or the exact production method. Gilt bronze locks are important materials because they preserve all the structures of locks in Goryeo Dynasty to the smallest detail. The surface pattern is revealed through the conservation process and components of the alloy through material analysis.

5. Biological tissue to irritants observed.
Objectives: It was aimed to compare the cyclic fatigue resistances of ProTaper Universal (PTU), ProTaper Next (PTN), and ProTaper Gold (PTG) and the effects of sterilization by autoclave on the cyclic fatigue life of nickel-titanium (NiTi) instruments. Materials and Methods: Eighty PTU, 80 PTN, and 80 PTG were included to the present study. Files were tested in a simulated canal. Each brand of the NiTi files were divided into 4 subgroups: group 1, as received condition; group 2, pre-sterilized instruments exposed to 10 times sterilization by autoclave; group 3, instruments tested were sterilized after being exposed to 25%, 50%, and 75% of the mean cycles to failure, then cycled fatigue test was performed; group 4, instruments exposed to the same experiment with group 3 without sterilization. The number of cycles to failure (NCF) was calculated. The data was statistically analyzed by using one-way analysis of variance and post hoc Tukey tests. Results: PTG showed significantly higher NCF than PTU and PTN in group 1 (p < 0.05). Sterilization significantly increased the NCF of PTN and PTG (p < 0.05) in group 2. PTN in group 3 had significantly higher cyclic fatigue resistance than PTN group 4 (p < 0.05). Also, significantly higher NCF was observed for PTG in group 2 than in groups 3 and 4 (p < 0.05). Conclusions: PTG instrument made of new gold alloy was more resistant to fatigue failure than PTN and PTU. Autoclaving increased the cyclic fatigue resistances of PTN and PTG.

Gold wire has long been used as a proven method of connecting a silicon die to a substrate in wide variety of package types, delivering high yield and productivity. However, with the high price of gold, the semiconductor packaging industry has been implementing an alternate wire material. These materials may include silver (Ag) or copper (Cu) alloys as an alternative to save material cost and maintain electrical performance. This paper will analyze and compare the electrical characteristics of several wire types. For the study, typical 0.6 mil, 0.8 mil and 1.0 mil diameter wires were selected from various alloy types (2N gold, Palladium (Pd) coated/doped copper, 88% and 96% silver) as well as respective pure metallic wires for comparison. Each wire model was validated by comparing it to electromagnetic simulation results and measurement data. Measurements from the implemented test boards were done using a vector network analyzer (VNA) and probe station setup. The test board layout consisted of three parts: 1. Analysis of the diameter, length and material characteristic of each wire; 2. Comparison between a microstrip line and the wire to microstrip line transition; and 3. Analysis of the wire's cross-talk. These areas will be discussed in detail along with all the extracted results from each type the wire.
The Au-Ag deposits of the Euiseong area occurred in quartz veins which filled fissures in Cretaceous sedimentary and volcanic rocks. These ore veins can be classified in two types of deposits based on metallic mineral assemblages as follow: a pyrite type gold-silver deposit (Hoedong mine), characterized by Cu sulfides with Au-Ag alloy, and a Sb-rich silver deposit (Keumdongdo mine), characterized by base metal with Ag-bearing sulfosalts. Mineralogic and fluid inclusion evidences suggest that the ore minerals of these deposits was deposited from initial high temperatures (near $350^{\circ}C$) to later lower temperatures ($200^{\circ}C$) with moderate salinity fluids ranging from 5.8 to 3.8 eq. wt. % NaCl. The gold-silver mineralization of the Hoedong mine occurred at temperatures between 300 and $200^{\circ}C$ from fluids with log $f_{s_2}$ of -10 ~ -16 atm. The antimony - silver mineralization of the Keumdongdo mine were deposited at the higher temperatures (350 to $250^{\circ}C$) and $f_{S_2}$ (-10 ~ -13 atm) than gold mineralization of the Hoedong mine. The calculated log f02 of fluids at $250^{\circ}C$ in two deposits are -32 to -34 atm and -36.5 to -38.5 atm, respectively. Boiling evidences indicate that the ore mineralization of the Hoedong mine occurred at more shallow depth (0.5km) than that (1km) of the Keumdongdo mine. The above differences of depositional environments between two deposits caused the compositional changes of ore minerals such as electrum and sphalerite.
