Study on the Ageing of Glow Starter for Fluorescent Lamp (형광등용 점등관의 에이징에 관한 연구)

  • An initial starting voltage, ignition time, glow current and blink of the flow starter are changed rapidly in initial using. therefore an ageing is required to stabilize the initial characteristics. According to the experiments, it is proved that the ageing time for the starting voltage and glow current takes 3 minutes and 5 minutes for ignition time and blink.

Analysis of Cast Iron by Glow Discharge Emission Spectrometry (글로우 방전/방출분광분석법에 의한 주철시료의 분석)

  • Generally, it is difficult to analyze cast iron samples with spark discharge emission spectrometry since the content of carbon in these samples is high as a few percent. The cast iron samples were analyzed with the developed glow discharge emission spectrometer composed of glow discharge emission source and polychromator. The discharge condition of glow discharge lamp(GDL) has been optimized by variation of Ar gas pressure, discharge voltage and discharge time. Under the optimum conditions obtained in this work, relationships between the measured emission intensities and concentration of two types of cast iron standard samples(BAS, LECO) were investigated. Most of elements(Mn, Si, P, S etc.) showed the good linearity in one calibration curve. And the carbon showed slightly the systematic difference according to the type of standard samples.

  • Recently, 2-dimensional flat light sources have been attracting much attention for its use in LCD backlight applications because of its high luminous efficiency and uniformity. A long-gap discharge, mercury-tree flat fluorescent lamp has been developed, which shows a high brightness ($>5000\;cd/m^2$) and high luminous efficacy (60 lm/W). Additionally, it has a wide operating margin and stable driving condition with the aid of an auxiliary electrode. For driving the lamp, a narrow pulse power to maintain the glow discharge state is required. Since there has been no research for this kind of lamp driving, this paper proposes a newly developed short-pulse, high-voltage lamp-driving scheme. The proposed lamp system uses a ballast with a coupled-inductor in order to raise the short pulse voltage up to the lamp ignition level and to obtain energy-recovery action during the glow discharge mode. The operation principles are presented and also the system performances such as the lighting efficiency, spatial and angular uniformities are evaluated by hardware experiments. The results show that the proposed lighting system is a good candidate for the next-generation of LCD backlight systems.

Effect of Day-length Extension Treatment Using LED on Growth and Flowering of Freesia hybrid 'Yvonne' (LED를 이용한 장일 처리가 프리지아(Freesia hybrida) '이본느'의 생육 및 개화에 미치는 영향)

  • The aim of this study was to determine the effect of day-length extension treatment using LED lighting (blue, green, red, or 3 mixed) on vegetative growth and flowering of freesia 'Yvonne', in comparison to that using glow lamps and metal halide lamps. Lighting treatments were imposed from 5 PM to 8 PM for 150 days from after flower bud differentiation to flowering end. For the period from leaf emergence to floral bud formation, no light source affected plant height but the number of leaves was decreased by the metal halide lamp. The highest SPAD value in the flower bud developing period occurred in the metal halide lamp treatment. The time of flowering was advanced by blue or green LED treatment compared to the no lighting control. The green LED lighting advanced flowering by 6 and 8 days compared to no lighting and metal halide lamp treatment, respectively. The blooming period tended to be shortened by the red LED treatment. As for the flower characteristics of 'Yvonne', floret length and width, and the weight of cut flowers were highest in the metal halide lamp treatment. Red LED decreased corm width and weight of 'Yvonne' while glow lamp decreased height and weight. Starch contents in corm were not influenced by the lighting source. Our results indicate that the green LED lighting advanced the time of flowering and the metal halide lamp was good for cut-flower quality.

  • Recently, the environmental problem has received considerable attention. so, many lamps have been developing for environmental requirement and energy efficiency, also, at glow discharge lamp researchers try to reduce energy spending that is power saving lamp. this kind requirement agree with strong points of electrodeless fluorescent lamp has received to now lighting sauce. In this paper, at the research and development of Electrodeless Fluorescent Lamp phase, according to ferrite C.F.D(Computational Fluid Dynamics) Simulation and lamp brightness character are measured to find optimization design requirements of RF antenna which is impotent for emission of lamp.

  • A gas-jet assisted glow discharge lamp was attached to a conventional atomic absorption spectrophotometer in the place of a flame burner. To evaluate the accuracy of this method, the certified values and the analyzed values of SRM's were compared and atomic absorption sensitivity for five elements were also obtained. Factors affecting the sensitivity and areas for future improvement are discussed.

  • The characteristics of current and voltage in a basic discharge experiment are investigated for a cold cathode fluorescent lamp with ballast capacitors attached at both ends of lamp and for a capacitive coupled external electrode fluorescent lamp. In the current-voltage characteristics for a cold cathode fluorescent lamp except ballast capacitors, it is shown that the typical glow discharge with the cathode fall follows after the dark current and Townsend firing discharge. However, in the characteristics for a cold cathode fluorescent lamp including ballast capacitors, the current increases as the voltage increases in the glow discharge region without representing a cathode fall since the most voltage is loaded at two capacitors. The characteristics for the external electrode fluorescent lamp shows the same as that of the cold cathode fluorescent lamp in the respect of glow discharge characters, and the external electrode itself roles the ballast capacitor.

  • Fluorescent lamp converts electrical energy Into light energy. Generally we use both electronic ballast and glow starter method in the house. We developed 40W electronic starter and its characteristic is verified by experiments. The efficiency of ballast is improved by using the LC Parallel reasonance circuit at input stage and LC series reasonance circuit at out-put stage.

At low pressure as mTorr I.C.P make high density plasma easily, is good to maintain discharge, has high ionization and does not have failing lighting and losing ability of electron radiation by oxidation and volatilization of electrodes, because this tape does not have electrodes. This point of I.C.P can use at electrodeless fluorescent lamp in this study ICP display elements and Ar, Ne, Kr are researched for optical characteristic. each gas is looked into optical characteristic, also mixed gases is experiment for optical characteristic.
