In this work, the properties as polishing wax for automobile of O/W type microemulsion containing wax, liquid paraffine and quaternaryammonium salt was investigated. The microemulsions were prepared at $96{\sim}97^{\circ}C$ by the phase inversion method, and polyoxyethylene(20) sorbitan monooleate (POE(20)SMO) and distearyl dimethyl ammonium chloride(D.D.A.C) as the emulsifiers were used. The mean particle size of the rnicroemulsions was about 7${\pm}$0.5nm and as the properties of polishing wax, gloss increased degree, water resistant gloss degree, initial and final contact angle after water resistance were tested. The result was that the value of water resistantance and contact angle were decreased with increasing amount of POE(20)SMO and D.D.A.C., while the gloss degree values did not affected. And the rnicroemulsion blended with mono ethylene glycol(MEG) of 5${\sim}$15wt% showed smaller particle size and more stable particle size distribution than without MEG. Finally, this microemulsion showed more excellent values of gloss degree, the water resistant gloss degree and contact angle, than two kinds of commercial polishing wax for automobile.

Composite resins, commonly used in clinical practice, have been developed to improve aesthetics to obtain smooth surfaces. Although the restored composite resin has a smooth surface, it gradually becomes rough over time. Therefore, this study measured glossiness to evaluate the surface of various composite resins and attempted to evaluate the maintenance of glossiness of composite resins by observing surfaces that change to roughness. Specimens were produced using resin used in clinical practice: Gradia direct anterior (GA), Tetric N-Ceram (TN), Ceram.X Sphere TEC one (CX), Filtek Z350XT (FT), Estelite sigma quick (ES). After creating a smooth surface with slide glass, five locations were randomly selected to measure surface gloss, and the average was the representative value of the specimen. Roughness was applied to the specimen under water pouring at the same speed and pressure using SiC paper #2400, 1200, and 400. The gloss unit of different SiC papers was measured. To evaluate the gloss unit and gloss retention between composite resins, one-way analysis of variance and Tukey multiple comparisons test were used. As a result of the study, there was a difference in gloss unit of specimens produced under the same conditions. Although the degree differed depending on the composite resin, there was also a difference in gloss retention. Based on the findings, composite resins show differences in gloss due to their different characteristics. Ceram.X Sphere TEC one (CX) showing the lowest gloss retention and Estelite sigma quick (ES) showing the highest.

The phenomenon of decrease in sizing efficiency when the stock temperature is increased is well recognized as summer sizing, and this is believed to be caused by uneven distribution of sizing agents on paper surface most often incurred by coagulation of sizing agents. When unevenly sized paper is used as coating base stock, nonuniform consolidation of the coating layer may result, which, in turn, causes uneven distribution of binder on coating surface. This causes nonuniform ink absorption to produce print mottle. In this study the effects of simple or polymeric electrolytes, storage temperature and time on the coagulation of cationic dispersed rosin size were investigated using a turbidity measurement method which was verified to correlate well with the particle size of rosin emulsion or its coagulates. Handsheets sized with rosin dispersions coagulated under various conditions were prepared and their sizing degree and coated paper properties including gloss and ink density were examined. The relationship between the sizing nonuniformity of coated papers and its ink absorption property was evaluated. Turbidity of rosin emulsion increased as the storage temperature and time were increased. Addition of simple or polymeric electrolytes caused reduction in $zeta$ -potential of the rosin dispersion and accelerated the coagulation tendency substantially. Reversion of the $zeta$ -potential of rosin dispersion, however, did not occur when coagulation was induced with simple electrolytes. On the other hand, addition of an anionic polyelectrolyte reversed the $zeta$ -potential of the flocculated rosin dispersion. This indicated that electrical double layer compaction and bridging flocculation were coagulation mechanisms for simple and polymeric electrolytes, respectively. Sizing degree decreased as coagulation of rosin was increased. Paper gloss, ink gloss and ink density were increased when sizing degree of base stock was increased most probably due to prevention of base paper swelling and increased binder migration to coating surface. This suggested that uneven printing ink density occurred when uneven sizing development was induced by coagulation of rosin particles.

The purposes of this study are to evaluate physical performance of metallic Jacquard fabrics, and to contribute to the research and development of the women's suit made of the metallic Jacquard fabrics. First, eight fabrics were woven with two kinds of warp yarns(nylon and rayon) and weft yarn blended with various contents(0, 7, 14, 21%) of metallic yarn. Second, the mechanical properties were measured by using the KES-FB system, and physical properties such as tensile strength, tearing strength, abrasion resistance, drape, pilling, snagging, degree of crease resistance, flexural stiffness, specular gloss, folding endurance and electrostatic propensity were measured. The results were as follows. As the metal fiber content increased, bending, shear, thickness and weight increased, which imply low recovery of wrinkles. It means that metallic Jacquard fabrics enable to use as a memory fabric. 7% metallic Jacquard fabric showed a low value at total hand value, but there was little change. As the metal fiber content increased, tensile strength, tearing strength, drape coefficient, specular gloss and flexural stiffness increased, however the degree of crease resistance, electrostatic propensity and folding endurance decreased. The metallic Jacquard fabrics were excellent in snagging, abrasion resistance and pilling.
A series of silica surface-capped with hexamethyldisilazane (denoted as $H-SiO_2$) were prepared by liquid-phase in-situ surface-modification method. The as-obtained $H-SiO_2$ was incorporated into acrylic amino (AA) baking paint to obtain AA/$H-SiO_2$ composite extinction paints and/or coatings. $N_2$ adsorption-desorption tests were conducted to determine the specific surface area as well as pore size and pore volume of $H-SiO_2$. Moreover, the effects of $H-SiO_2$ matting agents on the physical properties of AA paint as well as the gloss and transmittance of AA-based composite extinction coatings were investigated. Results show that $H-SiO_2$ matting agents possess a large specific surface area and pore volume than previously reported silica obtained by liquid-phase method. Besides, they have better dispersibility in AA baking paint than the unmodified silica. Particularly, $H-SiO_2$ with a silica particle size of $6.7{\mu}m$ and the dosage of 4% (mass fraction) provides an extinction rate of 95.2% and a transmittance of 79.3% for the AA-based composite extinction coating, showing advantages over OK520, a conventional silica matting agent. Along with the increase in the silica particle size, $H-SiO_2$ matting agents cause a certain degree of increase in the viscosity of AA paint as well as a noticeable decrease in the gloss of the AA-based composite extinction coating, but they have insignificant effects on the hardness and adhesion to substrate of the AA-based composite coatings. This means that $H-SiO_2$ matting agents could be well applicable to preparing low-viscosity and low-gloss AA-based matte coatings.

Hanji is a traditional Korean handmade paper, which has been known in ancient Far East as excellent quality calligraphic paper for more than 1,500 year. Hanji is mostly made of Korean paper mulberry bast fibers, and if properly processed, normally lasts for more than 1,000 years with significant strength and still recognizable calligraphic writings or drawings on it. Dochim is a special way of Hanji calendering process, but is turned out to be quite different from modern calendering (machine calendering) in several aspects. In Dochim process, mechanical impacts were applied vertically to the surface of papers. Compared to the modern calendering, Dochim increased paper gloss much more, but paper smoothness a little less. By the Dochim process, densification occurred and the degree of densification was more sensitive to the fiber type in the Dochim process than in the calendering method.
17 kinds of fire resistant paint which are currently used were painted on the MDF, to find flame resistance performance and smoking characteristics according to principal ingredient and characteristics of fire resistant paint. 45 degree combustion test and smoke density test were conducted to investigate the flame resistance performance and smoking characteristics. According to the 45 degree combustion test, acrylic resin type fire resistant paint showed the most excellent fire resistance performance. And the water soluble fire resistant paint showed better fire resistance performance compare to the solvent soluble paints. Also gloss paint showed better fire resistance performance than the flat paint. Based on the smoke density test, the smoke generation of fire resistant treated specimen of acrylic resin type was least. And the water soluble fire resistant paint generate little smoke than solvent soluble fire resistant paint.

For the synthesis of water soluble acrylic modified epoxyester resin, fatty acid/epoxy ratio of 50/50 was used, and introduced maleic anhydride. Ratio of styrene/acrylic acid of acrylic monomers was fixed 85/15 and ratio of epoxyester/acrylic monomer was controlled 80/20, 75/25, 70/30, 65/35, and degree of neutralization were changed 65%, 80%, to 100%. As a result, 40% solids acrylic modified epoxyester resins were synthesized. Resins were evaluated water soluble stability, drying time, water resistant, storage stability and physical properties. And the white paints were prepared, and were evaluated viscosity, drying time, water resistance, adhesion, sagging, spray workability, gloss, salt spray resistance, skinning, whiteness and flash rust. As a result, the degree of neutralization of 100% and the ratio of epoxyester/acrylic monomer of 75/25 showed the best properties.

Objective: The study aimed to understand the degree of improvement in damaged hair by applying mink oil. Methods: The agent used to improve hair texture is mink oil, which was applied in varying dosages (0, 1, 2, and 3 g). Hair characteristics were measured before and after applying mink oil to bleached hair for comparative analysis. To understand the effects of mink oil on hair texture, tensile strength, absorbance, and gloss were measured. Results: The results indicate a decrease in the tensile strength of damaged hair compared with healthy hair. Tensile strength at level 7 was achieved with high dosages of mink oil. Furthermore, the experimental group demonstrated an increase in absorbance compared with control. Compared to 0g for the control group, the absorbance values for the experimental group with mink oil dosages of 1, 2, and 3 g at level 7 decreased with the increased in mink oil dose. In terms of gloss, an increase was observed for bleached hair compared with healthy hair. At level 7, gloss decreased with the increase in mink oil dose. Conclusions: The results verified the improvement in hair texture after the application of mink oil to damaged hair. Future research should explore the effects of various oil ingredients on hair texture.

This study was aimed to investigate the effects of hair dyeing and changes of hair quality by the application of indigo dye. Methods: Indigo dye was used after water bath. After application of the dye to healthy and bleached hair samples, they were treated with heat and remained naturally by different times. Each sample was measured before and after the application and compared for the analysis. To investigate the effects of dyeing, L⁎, a⁎, and b⁎ values and bleaching degree were measured using by color-difference meter. To understand the changes of hair quality, absorbance and gloss were measured using by tensile strength and methylene blue. Results: Upon the results of dyeing, all the samples showed the significant dyeing effects before and after the application in terms of L⁎, a⁎, and b⁎ values. With respect to the bleaching effects, it showed the greatest change on Day 1 and did not show any changes from Day 3. For the measurement of tensile strength, mean values of all the samples were increased. However, the results were not significant, statistically, demonstrating no change of hair quality. No statistically significant results were found in the samples except healthy 7L(3) sample upon the absorbance results using methylene blue. Gloss of samples was changed upon the statistical analysis results. Conclusion: Indigo dye showed the hair dyeing effects, significantly, while gloss was changed and tensile strength and absorbance were not changed in terms of hair quality. Further studies are required on the processing with a variety of dyes and on the measurements for reliability and objectivity.
