Recently, the size of glass panel is increased to $1250 mm{\times}1100 mm{\times}0.7 mm$, whose mass is 2.65 kg, which requires much stiffer robot structure. In addition to the high stiffness, the robot hands and wrists for glass panel handling should have miller surface finishing of its outer surface to prevent particles and dusts from adhering on the surface. The maximum height of the robot structure should not be larger than 1500 mm because other automated guided vehicles (AGV) and transfer equipments have been designed within this size limit. The difference of maximum deflections of the four ends of the hands before and after loading the glass panel should be less than 2.0 mm. In this work, the robot hands and wrists for handling large glass panel displays were designed based on the axiomatic design using the finite element method along with optimization routine.
Metallic glass alloys having dense packing structure have short range ordered structure with long range homogeneity. Therefore, they can provide complete corrosion protection and unique electrical properties. Recently, metallic glass thin films have received much attention to extend its application fields combining with PVC coating technologies. The metallic glass thin films can change the surface properties of the conventional bulk materials which need anticorrosion properties. However, multi-component alloying targets are required to fabricate the metallic glass thin films because metallic glass alloys contain more than three elements. Recently, many researchers have been reported the properties of the metallic glass thin films synthesized with multi-cathode systems or amorphous target. But, it is difficult to fabricate the large sized sputtering targets for mass production equipment with high toughness and thermal stability. In this study, newly developed sputtering target with glass forming ability and the properties of the metallic glass thin films will be introduced with respect to the various application fields such as bipolar plate in PEM fuel cell and decorative coatings for electric device and construction fields.
Zinc-Borosilicate is used as a side insulator wall to make high breakdown voltage with one Field Limiting Ring in a power p-n junction device in simulation. It is known that surface charge density can be yield at the interface of Zinc-Borosilicate glass / silicon system. When the glass is used as a side insulator wall, surface charge varied potential distribution and breakdown voltage is improved 1090 V under the same structure. The breakdown voltage under varying the surface charge density has a limit value. When the epitaxial thickness is varied, the position of FLR doesn't influence to the breakdown characteristic not only under non punch-through structure but also under punch-through structure. The possibility of using a glass block with the composition of sodium borosilicate as starting materials for GRIN glass was examined from the view points of the phase separation of the matrix glass, the effects of leaching and the heating conditions for a porous structure, and the change in the refractive index. Glass specimens with similar compositions were prepared in the form of porous glass using a phase-separation technique. An examination of the heating and leaching conditions and the microstructure dependence of these conditions was made.; Specimens with porous structure were obtained when the heat treatment and leaching conditions were fixed at $540^{\circ}C$ for 30hrs and in a 0.3N$ H_2$$SO_4$ solution at $100^{\circ}C$, respectively. The resultant specimens had some important features on the GRIN glass.; the depth of the gradient and the change in refractive index (Δn) were 4mm and 0.015~0.02, respectively.
The network structure of a glass is known to be cracked by a chemical reaction, diffusion, and ion exchange of alkali ion, formed at the crack tip of the glass surface, when water is present on the glass surface. Since the durability of glass is reduced, due to the fatigue phenomenon mentioned above, pollution problem of glass goods, especially bottle glass, is becoming acute gradually. A static fatigue phenomenon was studied thermodynamically in this paper, and a mechanism of static fatigue, a quality control, and a method of preventing pollution for the main local glass goods were also investigated. The PH of reacted solution and the quantity of extracted alkali were measured at different conditions such as temperature, reacting time, particle size of a crushed glass sample, and the nature of reacting solution. The enthalpy change was calculated from the Arrhenius equation. The results are given below; 1) The absolute value of enthalpy change for the bottle glass was found to be higher than the for the flat glass. 2) The fatigue phenomenon of a glass was more sensitive to the temperature than to the reacting time. 3) The durability of glass in acid solution is stronger than in alkaline solution. 4) The substance which cracks the network structure of glas is considered the hydroxyl ion.

Glass texturing is a sufficient method for changing the surface morphology to enhance the light trapping. In this study, glass texturing was applied to the perovskite solar cell for improving the current density. Glass substrates (back-side glass of FTO coated glass substrate) were textured by randomly structure assisted wet etching process using diluted HF solution at a constant concentration of etchants (HF:H2O=1:1). Then, the light trapping properties of suitable films were controlled over a wide range by varying the etching time (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 min.). The surface texturing changed the reflected light in an angle that it can be reflected by substrate glass surface. As a result, Current density and cell efficiency were affected by light trapping layer using glass texturing method in perovskite solar cells.
For producing the fine ribs structure of plasma display panel, the metal ions of barrier materials during the etching process should be understood on the etching mechanism with etching conditions. Etching was done on bulk glasses of the $BaO_B_2O_3-ZnO$ system with $HNO_3$ solution at $40^{\circ}C$. The surface structure of glasses and ion dissolution were analyzed by ICP (Inductive Coupled Plasma measurement). The structure and surface of the etched bulk glass were investigated by using scanning electron microscopy and nanoindenter. As a result, Ba (3-35 ppm/min) and Zn (2-27 ppm/min) ions as major components were leached in the solution and the leached layers were found to be phosphor-rich surface layers. A decrease of the bridge oxygen and relative increase of non bridge oxygen in the etched glass were found by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
Encapsulation is required since organic materials used in OLED devices are fragile to water vapor and oxygen. Laser sealing method is currently used where IR laser is scanned along the glass-frit coated lines. Laser method is, however, not suitable to encapsulating large-sized glass substrate due to the nature of sequential scanning. In this work we propose a new method of encapsulation using Joule heating. Conductive layer is patterned along the sealing lines on which the glass frit is screen printed and sintered. Electric field is then applied to the conductive layer resulting in bonding both the panel glass and the encapsulation glass by melting glass-frit. In order to obtain uniform bonding the temperature of a conductive layer having a shape of closed loop should be uniform. In this work we conducted simulation for heat distribution according to the structure of a conductive layer used as a Joule-heat source. Uniform temperature was obtained with an error of 5% by optimizing the structure of a conductive layer. Based on the results of thermal simulations we concluded that Joule-heating induced encapsulation would be a good candidate for encapsulation method especially for large area glass substrate.
In this paper, the optimum design of the glass net shape was studied to minimize the electric field of mold transformer. The glass net is used for reinforcement in structure between coils and epoxy, but it can cause to increase the electric field and the partial discharge. Therefore, the optimum design of glass net is required to minimize the electric field. In this paper, the objective function was approximated by using response surface method and then Zoom-in method was used for optimal design to minimize the electric field. The electric field was analysed using finite element method for each shape of glass nets.
