Authors surveyed the ground water near the waste disposed from a fiberglass production factory to confirm the presence of glassfiber in the water and to determine the effect of sampling conditions and storage on the recovery of fibrous materials in the ground water. Sample was collected at every 4 hours for 48 hours consecutively. After finishing the 48 hours sample, water sampling was done from each tap after repeated turning on and off the water for 30 seconds at each time. Sample was collected in the two 1.5 liter polyethylene bottle after vigorously shaking the bottle with the same water several times with the flowing tap water. At each paired sample, one bottle was stored stand still at room temperature, and the other sample was filtered immediately after sampling. Water was filtered on the Mixed Cellulose Ester filter with negative pressure. Each sample was divided into upper and lower layer. The other bottle was stored at room temperature standstill for 7 days and filtered in the same fashion as the other pair of sample did. Each MCE filter was divided into 4 pieces and one piece was treated with acetone to make it transparent. Each prepared sample was observed by two researchers under the light and polarizing microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ra microanalysis. Fibers were classified by the morphology and polarizing pattern under the polarizing microscope, and count was done. 1. There was a significant fluctuation in number of the fibers, but there was no specific demonstrable pattern. 2. Non-polarizing fibers frequently disappeared after 7 days's storage. But cluster of fibers were found at the wall of the same container by scratching technique. 3. Polarizing fibers were usually found in between the filter and the manicure pasted area. Possible explanations for this phenomenon will be that either these fibers are very light or have electronic polarity. Hence, these fibers are not able to be attached on the surface of slide glass. 4. Under the scanning electron microscopic examination, the fibers which are not refractive under the light microscopy were identified as glassfiber. Other fibers which is refractive under the polarizing microscopy were identified as magnesium silicate fibers. It is strongly suggested that development of standardized method of sample collection and measurement of fibrous material in the water is needed.

Background: Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) with ground-glass opacity (GGO) can become aggravated, but the reasons for this aggravation are not fully understood. The goal of this study was to analyze the genetic features and causes of progression of GGO LUAD. Methods: LUAD tumor samples and normal tissues were analyzed using an Illumina HiSeq 4000 system. After the tumor mutational burden (TMB) was calculated, the identified mutations were classified as those found only in GGO LUAD, those present only in nonGGO LUAD, and those common to both tissue types. Ten high-frequency genes were selected from each domain, after which protein interaction network analysis was conducted. Results: Overall, 227 mutations in GGO LUAD, 212 in non-GGO LUAD, and 48 that were common to both tumor types were found. The TMB was 8.8 in GGO and 7.8 in non-GGO samples. In GGO LUAD, mutations of FCGBP and SFTPA1 were identified. FOXQ1, IRF5, and MAGEC1 mutations were common to both types, and CDC27 and NOTCH4 mutations were identified in the non-GGO LUAD. Protein interaction network analysis indicated that IRF5 (common to both tissue types) and CDC27 (found in the non-GGO LUAD) had significant biological functions related to the cell cycle and proliferation. Conclusion: In conclusion, GGO LUAD exhibited a higher TMB than non-GGO LUAD. No clinically meaningful mutations were found to be specific to GGO LUAD, but mutations involved in the epithelial-mesenchymal transition or cell cycle were found in both tumor types and in non-GGO tissue alone. These findings could explain the non-invasiveness of GGO-type LUAD.
Background: To investigate whether CT findings can predict the invasiveness of persistent cancerous pure ground glass opacity (pGGO) by correlating the CT imaging features of persistent pGGO with pathological changes. Materials and Methods: Ninety five patients with persistent pGGOs were included. Three radiologists evaluated the morphologic features of these pGGOs at high resolution CT (HRCT). Binary logistic regression was used to assess the association between CT findings and histopathological classification (pre-invasive and invasive groups). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of diameters. Results: A total of 105 pGGOs were identified. Between pre-invasive (atypical adenomatous hyperplasia, AAH, and adenocarcinoma in situ, AIS) and invasive group (minimally invasive adenocarcinoma, MIA and invasive lung adenocarcinomas, ILA), there were significant differences in diameter, spiculation and vessel dilatation (p<0.05). No difference was found in air-bronchogram, bubble-lucency, lobulated-margin, pleural indentation or vascular convergence (p>0.05). The optimal threshold value of the diameters to predict the invasiveness of pGGO was 12.50mm. Conclusions: HRCT features can predict the invasiveness of persistent pGGO. The pGGO with a diameter more than 12.50mm, presences of spiculation and vessel dilatation are important factors to differentiate invasive adenocarcinoma from pre-invasive cancerous lesions.
Objectives : To determine the DNA sequence of the 18S rRNA gene of the Rehmannia glutinosa and analyze it phylogenetically Methods : Dried root of the Rehmannia glutinosa was ground with a mortar and pestle. Glass beads(0.5 mm in diameter), TE buffer and SDS solution were added to that. The mixture was vortexed vigorously and extracted with the mixture of phenol, chloroform and isoamyl alcohol and with the mixture of the chloroform and isoamyl alcohol. The nucleic acids were precipitated with ethanol and resuspended in TE buffer. Contaminating RNA was digested with RNAse A and the DNA was purified further with the Geneclean Turbo Kit. This DNA was used as a template for amplification of the 18S rRNA gene by PCR. The PCR product was cloned in the pBluescript SK II plasmid by blunt-end ligation and the DNA sequence of the insert was determined. This DNA sequence was analyzed phylogenetically by the BLAST program. Results and Conclusion : Vortexing the ground powder of the dried plant root with glass beads during cell lysis improved recovery of DNA. The DNA sequence of the Rehmannia glutinosa 18S rRNA gene was determined and deposited at the GenBank as the accession number DQ469606. Phylogenetic analysis of that sequence showed the relationship between the members of the family of Scrophulariaceae and also the close relationship of the Buddleja davidii to the members of the Scrophulariaceae family.

Recently, the use of buried glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) pipes is widespread and ever increasing trend in the industry. GRP pipes are attractive for use in harsh environments, such as for the collection and transmission of liquids which are abrasive and/or corrosive. The structural behavior of a GRP pipes buried under the ground is different from that of a rigid one made of concrete or clay, for example. A GRP pipe buried under the ground is deflected circumferentially by several percent and the stresses in the pipe are mainly compressive stresses. A GRP pipes has been introduced by a number of manufacturers for selection and used by underground pipeline designers. In all cases, the modified Spangler's equation is recommended by these manufacturers for predicting the ring deflection of these pipes under dead and live loads. In this paper, the ring deflection of buried GRP pipe is evaluated and discussed based on the result of analytical investigation.

Gefitinib is a novel drug used to treat advanced non-small cell lung cancer. However, drug-related interstitial pneumonia is a major life-threatening side effect, which has a worldwide prevalence of 0.3-0.4%. In Japan, the prevalence is high as 3-4% but the actual frequency in Korea has not been officially assessed. We report two cases of gefitinib-induced interstitial lung disease during the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer. High-resolution computerized tomography (HRCT) of one case showed nonspecific ground glass opacity and the chest x-ray of another case showed diffuse bilateral ground glass opacity. The former patient showed a rapid good response to corticosteroid treatment whereas the latter died despite receiving aggressive treatment with high dose corticosteroid and empirical antibiotics.
Acute respiratory failure with diffuse pulmonary infiltration was occurred in a patient with malignant lymphoma 1month after the $8^{th}$ CHOP chemotherapy. The ground glass and consolidation appearances on chest C-T in this immunodeficient patient could be presented in many clinical situations such as pneumonia by opportunistic infections (fungal, parasites, viral, and usual bacterial pathogens), anti-tumor drug's pulmonary toxicity and tumor invasion. And the other diseases of acute interstitial pneumonitis, alveolar proteinosis, BOOP, puhnonary edema and alveolar hemorrhage, which could present the same radiological findings, should included in differential diagnosis. This patient was diagnosed as the opportunistic pneumonia by Pneumocystis carinii and probably Cytomegalovirus through bronchoalveolar lavage and transbronchial lung biopsy
The s-polarized laser beam is incident with an angle ~$-30^{\circ}$ to a uniformly rotating rough metal surface and the degree of second order temporal coherence $g_{s}^{(2)}(\tau)$ of the backscattered wave, which has the same polarization with the incident laser beam, is measured. The contribution of shot noise involved in the measurement of $g_{s}^{(2)}(0)$ is subtracted from the photoelectric signal to obtain the accurate value of $g_{s}^{(2)}(0)$.At each scattering angle$\theta_{s}$에서$g_{s}^{(2)}(\tau)$ is almost consistent with the function {1+exp($-\tau^2/\tau_0^2$)}, which is the same result with the case of the laser speckle formed by scattering on the rotating ground glass suface. In addition, a peak in the angular distribution of $\tau_0$ is observed with the maximum at$\theta_s=34^{\circ}$.It is found that the rough metallic scattering with multiple scattering over than 10% has the same function of the degree of second order temporal coherence with that of the ground glass surface scattering where the multiple scattering is ignorably small.
This paper reports a presumptive severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in a cat. A cat with respiratory disease living with three individuals with coronavirus disease 2019 showed bilateral ground-glass opacities in the lung on X-ray and computed tomography. The clinical swabs were negative for SARS-CoV-2 RNA, but the serum was positive for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. Interstitial pneumonia and prominent type 2 pneumocyte hyperplasia were noted on histopathology. Respiratory tissues were negative for SARS-CoV-2 RNA or antigen, but the cat was positive for feline parvovirus DNA. In conclusion, the respiratory disease and associated pathology in this cat could have been due to exposure to SARS-CoV-2.
To evaluate the pinhole scintigraphic findings and its significance, authors retrospectively compared the pinhole bone scintigrams and corresponding radiograms of 16 lesions in 14 patients with fibrous dysplasia. They were diagnosed pathologically in 10 lesions and radiologically in 6 lesions. The mean age of patients was 41.1 years. The mean interval between two studies was 1.1 days. Locations were ribs 7, pelvic bone 4, clavicle 1, long bones 4(femur 2, tibia 1, humerus 1). The radiographic findings were as follows : the central portions were radiolucent(n=9), ground-glass opacities(n=5) or sclerotic(n=2) and the peripheral appearance were sclerotic rim(n=5), septation(n=7), cortical perforation (n=10) and invisible cortical thinning(n=9). Pinhole scintigraphic findings were as follows; Central portions showed normal 1+ uptake in 6 cases(radiolucent 5, ground-glass opacity 1), slightly increased 2+ upta- ke in 7 cases(radiolucent 4, ground-glass opacity 3), and marked 3+ uptake in 3 cases(ground-glass opacity 1, sclerotic 2). The 15 of 16 lesions showed more intense uptake in the peripheral portion: slightly increased 2+ uptake corresponding to the sclerotic rim(5/5) and unvisible cortical thinning(1/9), and irregular foci of marked 3 + uptake corresponding to septation(7/7), cortical perforation(10/10) and invisible cortical thinning (8/9). One of 16 lesions showed homogeneous 2+ uptake. In conclusion, pinhole scintigram provides information on regional activity of the fibrous dysplasia, which would be helpful in diagnosis, prediction of prognosis and determination of treatment plan.
