  • This study was conducted to estimate peeling and vapor adsorption properties made with fabric glass fiber reinforced laminated timber according to our earlier report(Jung et al., 2002). In adsorption peeling test, three all types solid wood were not appeared the peeling. However, solid wood appeared to the peeling in boiling peeling test except for control wood. Vapor adsorption test was performed at 40℃, 90% relative humidity for 48 hours. Cross sections were not different all solid wood. Radial section and tangential section with glass fiber were delayed vapor adsorption compared to control wood. In anisotropy of vapor adsorption, solid wood with glass fiber were small values.

  • The box girder was developed using polymer concrete, box girder were made for flexural behavior evaluation. The box girder was reinforced with reinforcing steel bars and fiber glass roving cloths. Failure loads were 13.5 tons and 16.6tons for steel reinforced girder and fiber glass reinforced girder, respectively. Especially for the fiber glass reinforced girder, the shape was not changed even after failure. It is expected that application of this idea will be useful for developing under ground box, girder, utility tunnel, small stream bridge box, etc.

• Self diagnosis monitoring system is defined as concrete structural carbon and glass hybrid fiber materials, in response to the change in external disturbance and environments, toward structural safety and serviceability as well as the extension of structural service life. In this study, carbon and glass hybrid fiber materials were investigated fundamentally for the applicability of self diagnosis in smart concrete structural system as embedded functions of sensors.

  • This paper deals with the effect amino silane coupling agent for the composite insulating material (GFRP). Three kinds of coupling agent treatments are studied, that is treatment on glass fiber, epoxy resin and both glass fiber and epoxy resin. The result shows that the optimum electrical and mechanical properties is obtained for the sample treated on the glass fiber with 0.3% amino silane water solution.

  • In the present paper, glass fibers are substituted partially with monofilament fishnet and polyester matrix for making the composites. The composite specimens were prepared in accordance with ASTM for analyzing the flexural strength and dynamic mechanical properties. Furthermore, machinability revealed the interaction of glass fiber and partial substituted monofilament fishnet fiber with the matrix. Fiber pullouts on the fractured specimen during the physical testing of the composites are also investigated by COSLAB microscope. The results reveal that the fishnet based composites have appreciably higher flexural properties. Furthermore, the glass fiber, woven roving and fishnet composite has more storage modulus and significant mechanical damping. The composite specimens were fabricated by hand lay-up method. Hence, these composites are the possible applications to develop the value added products. The results of this study are presented.

  • There are two main methods in reinforcing cements with glass fibers : spray-suction and premixing method. But GRC have been mostly studied by spray technique. In order to develop GRC made by premixing method, in this paper, the influence of glass fiber length, volume content and curing conditions upon the compressive, direct tensile and bending strengths of composites fabricated by a premixing method, were investigated. According to the test results, although it was difficult to obtain perfectly uniform distribution of fibers in GRC Pannel, it was found that tensile strength of cements with glass fiber was improved 2~5 times and flexural strength 4 times compared to conventional cement mortar upto fiber length 35 mm, volume content 4%.

  • For finite analysis of concrete columns strengthened with glass fiber sheets, an effective concrete model which considers the confining effects by lateral reinforcement and glass fiber sheets is necessary. In this paper, the so-called elasto-plasticity and continuum fracture model (EPF model) is modified to consider high confining effects of strengthened reinforced concrete columns by introducing a simple correction factor ($\alpha$) which relates maximum lateral confining stress of the column to the evolution of deviatoric plasticity. Then, a finite element analysis is carried out for the strengthened reinforced concrete columns using the modified EPF model and equally spaced truss elements. It is shown that the, analysis predicts well the failure behavior of reinforced concrete columns strengthened with glass fiber sheets.
