은행나무 수피 추출액에 의한 천연섬유의 염색( I ) -색소분석 및 염착성- (Dyeing of Natural Fibers with Extract of Ginkgo biloba Bark(I) - Pigments Analysis and Dyeability -)

  • Natural colorants haute attracted much attention all over the world because of their non-hazardous nature. The world is becoming increasingly aware of environmental Issues, such as ozone layer depletion, water pollution and waste disposal problems. The use of synthetic dyestuffs for their synthesis and application in the dyeing industries has been criticized due to introduction of contaminants into the environment. This has led to the desire to turn to the traditional, and more natural way of life. In this study, the colorants of extract of Ginkgo biloba bark were analysed and their dyeing properties on silk, wool and cotton were studied. It was found that uv-visible absorption spectra of extract of Ginkgo biloba bark showed two strong absorption Peaks in the range of 240 ∼400 In. From the result of IR spectra, the major ingredient of extract of Gikgo biloba bark seems to be the flavon which is one of the flavonoid derivatives. Silk, wool, and cotton dyed with the extract of Ginkgo biloba bark showed a reddish yellow color. Their color differences were increased drastically with repetition of dyeing by three times.

  • The atmospheric SO$_{2}$ concentrations and water soluble sulfur contents in Ginkgo biloba were measured and analyzed in auto-measuring station, Kwangleung, and Yongmun from August 5 to October 21, 1990. The results of the study are as follows: 1. Atmospheric SO$_{2}$ concentrations between the seoul area(Pulkwang, Ssangmun, Myonmok, Oilurn) in which the concentrations exceeded the air quality standards and the surburb of seoul (Kwangleung, Yongmun) revealed the significant difference (p<0.01). 2. Water soluble sulfur contents in Ginkgo biloba in autumn were higher than those in Ginkgo biloba in summer (p<0.01). Water soluble sulfur contents in leaves showed a significant difference between seoul and its surburb(p<0.01). 3. Correlation between atmospheric SO$_{2}$ concentration and water soluble sulfur content of Ginkgo biloba in autumn was as follow Y=0.2714+9.8123 X, r=0.6362 (X: Airborne SO${_2}$ Concentration according to sampling location, Y: Water Soluble Sulfur Contents)

Antifungal Action of Ginkgo biloba Outer Seedcoat on Rice Sheath blight

  • From study of antifungal actions on the rice sheath blight by using the extract of Ginkgo biloba outer seedcoats, we found that the extracts of Ginkgo biloba outer seedcoats of all treatment concentrations had inhibited the rice sheath blight. Among them, the most effective concentration was 250 mg/l at which the growth of microbe was 26 mm and even at the packaging test, when sprayed the G. biloba outer seedcoats at the level of 250 mg/l, the damage rate of the rice sheath blight was identified as 13%. As a result investigating the antifungal activity by separating polysaccharides from G. biloba outer seedcoats, it showed that the clear zone of 14 mm or more was formed at the concentration of 250 mg/l or higher. Based on these results, we concluded that the G. biloba outer seedcoat is a natural substance with the antifungal activity on the rice sheath blight.

점박이응애(Tetranichus urticae), 목화진딧물(Aphis gossypii)과 복숭아혹진딧물(Myzus persicae)에 대한 은행잎 추출물의 살충 및 기피효과 (Repellent and Pesticidal Effect of Ginkgo biloba Leaves Extracts on the Tetranichus urticae, Aphis gossypii and Myzus persicae)

  • 천연식물자원으로부터 생물농약을 개발하기 위하여 점박이응애(Tetranichus urticae), 목화진딧물(Aphis gossypii)과 복숭아혹진딧물(Myzus persicae)에 대해 푸른은행잎 추출물(GG-W80)과 노란은행잎 추출물(YG-W80)의 살충효과와 기피효과를 leaf disk법과 유묘검정법에 의해 조사하였다. 점박이응애에 대한 살충효과는 GG-W80이 98.3%로 YG-W80의 20.0%보다 우수하였다. 점박이응애에 강한 살충효과를 보이는 생리활성물질은 high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)를 이용해 동정하였다. 푸른은행잎 추출물에서는 각각 bilobalide $611\;{\mu}g/kg$, ginkgolide A $37\;{\mu}g/kg$와 ginkgolide B $243\;{\mu}g/kg$이 동정되었으며, 노란은행잎 추출물에서는 bilobalide $214\;{\mu}g/kg$와 ginkgolide B $46\;{\mu}g/kg$이 동정되었으나 ginkgolide A는 확인되지 않았다. 이상의 결과는 은행잎에 존재하는 terpene계 화합물인 bilobalide와 ginkgolide A, B가 점박이응애에 살충력을 갖고 있음을 알수 있으며, 이들 성분을 포함한 은행잎 추출물이 점박이응애에 대한 생물학적 방제 가능성을 가지고 있음을 시사하였다.

은행나무추출액과 실리콘유연제를 처리한 침장용 텐셀 자카드 직물의 역학적 특성변화와 감성평가 (Mechanical properties and sensibility of Tencel Jacquard fabrics treated with Ginkgo biloba extract and silicon softener)

  • 본 연구에서는 텐셀 자카드 직물에 은행나무 추출물(ginkgo biloba extract)과 실리콘 유연제(silicon softener)를 처리 할 때 실리콘유연제를 동시에 처리하는 방법과 은행나무추출액 처리하고 난 후에 다른 bath에서 실리콘유연제를 연속적으로 처리하는 방법 중 어느 것이 더 촉감이나 선호도에 더 영향을 주는지를 찾아내고자 하였다. 따라서 텐셀 자카드 직물에 은행나무추출액과 실리콘유연제를 처리하여 KES-FB system을 통하여 역학적 특성 및 객관적 태의 변화를 살펴보고, 침장용 직물이 가지는 개별 감각 및 종합 감각의 주관적 감성을 평가하였다. 이밖에도 침장용 직물에서 중요하게 여겨지는 소비자의 개별감각 요소를 평가하여 침장용 직물개발의 기초자료를 마련하고자 하였다. 텐셀 자카드 직물에 은행나무추출액과 실리콘유연제를 처리하게 되면 인장특성인 EM, WT, RT는 증가하여 신축성이 있고 형태안정성이 좋아지며, 인장특성 전단특성이 감소하여 유연성이 증가하고, 무게와 두께가 증가로 부피감이 커져, THV는 증가하였다. 주관적 감성 평가 결과 개별감각 중 부드러움, 따뜻함, 탄력감, 부피감은 증가하고 거침은 감소하는 것으로 평가하였다. 또한 부드러움, 부피감, 따듯함을 침장용 직물이 갖는 중요한 개별감각 요소로 평가하였다. 은행나무추출액과 실리콘유연제를 처리할 경우 촉감이 좋아지고 선호도가 높아지는 것으로 평가되었다.

포도상구균에 대만 에탄올 농도별 은행잎 추출물의 항균효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Antimicrobial Effect of Ginkgo biloba Leaves Extracts according to Concentrations of Ethanol for staphylococcus aureus)

  • 본 연구에서는 은행잎 추출물의 Staphylococcus aureus에 대한 항균효과를 검증하기 위해 먼저 에탄올 농도별로 bilobalide와 ginkgolide A, B의 성분을 분석한 결과 40% 에탄올 용매를 최적 활성농도로 결정하였다. Disc diffusion test, Optical density test을 통한 S. aureus 항균실험 결과 에탄올 추출농도가 증가할수록 항균효과가 증가하나 40% 에탄올 이상에서는 항균활성에 큰 차이가 없었다. 주사전자현미경을 통하여 은행잎 에탄올 40% 추출물 16배 농축액을 처리한 균의 세포표면을 확인한 결과 심하게 손상되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 투과전자현미경을 이용하여 관찰한 결과 은행잎 추출물로 처리한 균주에서는 세포벽이 관찰되지 않았으며, 이는 은행잎 추출물의 주성분인 bilobalide와 ginkgolide A, B가 세포벽 합성을 저해하는 것으로 보여진다.

Effect of Ginkgo biloba Extract (EGb 761) on Serum Cholesterol Levels in Wild-type C57Bl/6 Mice

  • Ginkgo biloba extract (EGb 761) is a standardized extract of Ginkgo biloba leaves and has anti- atherosclerosis properties. Many patients with atherosclerosis disorders take Ginkgo biloba extracts to supplement current therapy. In addition, normal healthy individuals also take Ginkgo biloba extracts for prophylactic purposes. However, it is unknown whether supplementation of Gingko biloba extracts in healthy individuals offer a benefit. In this study, we assessed whether EGb 761 could provide beneficial effects on serum cholesterol levels in normal mice. Wild-type C56Bl/6 mice were orally administered EGb 761 at 25 mg/kg (Group 3) or 50 mg/kg (Group 4) every other day for 40 days. We found that the serum levels of HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C) were significantly increased in EGb 761 and lovastatin treated groups. Treatment with EGb 761 and lovastatin resulted in reduced serum total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C) compared to control group. Serum lecithin cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) levels were higher in EGb 761 and lovastatin treated group compared to the control group. However, no difference was observed in serum APO A-I levels between the control group and treatment group. These results suggest that EGb 761 can increase HDL-C resulting in increased serum LCAT levels.

A study on the duration of Ginkgo biloba extract effective in improving cognitive function in the elderly: A systematic review and meta-analysis

  • Evidence regarding the efficacy of Ginkgo biloba extract on cognitive function has been contentious. This study evaluated the effective period of G. biloba intake to improve cognition in the elderly. PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane, Web of Science, and PsycArticles databases were searched for short-listing relevant studies. Twenty-five studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Cognitive efficacy was assessed based on the duration of intervention. G. biloba intake for 3-6 months statistically significantly affected cognitive function (SMD= -0.21; 95% CI -0.39, -0.03; p=0.02). However, the improvement in activities of daily living (ADLs) was not statistically significant. Thus, G. biloba intake for more than three months improves cognition in the elderly people with cognitive impairment and AD dementia without any safety risk. Intake for up to six months does not improve ADLs significantly in mild to moderate dementia patients.

비듬유발균 (Pityrosporum ovale) 에 대한 은행잎으로부터 추출한 Ginkgolide 및 Bilobalide의 항진균 효과 (Antifungal Effect of Bilobalide and Ginkgolide Extracted from Leaves of Ginkgo biloba Against Pityrosporum ovale)

  • Antifungal effect of Ginkgo biloba leaves extracts conducted for Pityrosporum ovale. Antifungal effect verified by diffusion test, optical density test and colony counting test under various concentration. Extract of ginkgo biloba leaves performed with 40% ethanol and 60% water solution at $60^{\circ}C$ and major components analyzed by HPLC. The concentrated extract have bilobalide and ginkgolide A and ginkgolide B and their concentration were 153.0 mg/L, 8403.5 mg/L and 2723.0 mg/L respectively. Ginkgo biloba leaves extracts gave 99.1% of antifungal effect for Pityrosporum ovale examined by colony counting method.
