  • The saturation magnetization and uniaxial anisotropy constant were obtained from magnetization and torque curves measurement in high resistive CoFeHfO thin film. The measured results were used for the analysis of the microwave complex permeability based on Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert (LLG) theory. The high resistive CoFeHfO thin films showed very low damping constants of ${\alpha}$ = 0.014. The results are interpreted in terms of various magnetic phase with very low damping constant, which were existing inside the CoFeHfO thin film, through the linewidth analysis of the ferromagnetic resonance signal with magnetic field.

  • The spin wave absorption spectra are obtained by a simultaneous solution of the Maxwell equation and the Gilbert equation considering the boundary condition of electromagnetic wave and magnetization in the film surfaces. The physical parameters that influence the absorption energy are thickness, exchange stiffness constant, surface magnetic anisotropy, magnetization. damping factor, electric resistivity of the thin film. We investigated how these parameters affect the resonance field, the linewidth and the intensity of the spin wave spectrum.

  • Here we report a theoretical description of ferromagnetic vortex dynamics. Based on Thiele's formulation of the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation, the motion of the vortex core could be described by a function of the vortex core position. Under a parabolic potential generated in the circular magnetic patterns, the vortex core showed a circular rotation-namely the gyrotropic motion, which could be described by a 2-dimensional simple harmonic oscillator. The gyrotropic frequency and apparent damping constant were predicted and compared with the values obtained micromagnetic calculation.

  • We developed a time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect microscope system to investigate ultrafast magnetization dynamics. Based on the pump-probe method, 0.1-ps time resolution was achieved by use of a fs Ti:Sapphire laser. The magnetization dynamics was then measured on Pt/Co/Pt thin films with various Co thicknesses. All the samples exhibited ultrafast demagnetization within a few ps by direct heating of pump laser. Some thicker samples showed precessional motion of magnetization, from which the Gilbert damping constant was determined based on the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation.

  • Solving the stochastic Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation numerically, we investigate the attempt frequency of magnetization in synthetic antiferromagnet (SyAF). The attempt frequency is estimated while varying the uniaxial anisotropy constant, the energy barrier and the geometry of a magnetic layer. It is found that the attempt frequency is decreased for the same magnetic volume by increasing the asymmetry of the geometry in the high damping region. Also, even for a constant height of energy barrier, the attempt frequency can vary dramatically with uniaxial anisotropy constant.

  • Ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) measurement is an important experimental technique for the study of magnetic dynamics. We designed and set up the vector network analyzer ferromagnetic resonance (VNA-FMR) measurement system with home made coplanar waveguides (CPW). We examined 10-, 20-, 40-nm thick Py thin films to test the performance of the VNA-FMR measurement system. We measured S-parameter (transmission/reflection coefficient) of Py thin films on a CPW. Resonance frequency is investigated from 2.5 to 7 GHz for a field range from 0 to 490 Oe. The VNA-FMR data shows the resonance frequency increment when the external magnetic field increases. We also investigated Gilbert damping constant of Py thin film using resonance frequency (${\omega}_r$) and linewidth ($\Delta\omega$). After investigating dependence of thickness, we find that an decrease in S-parameter intensity as Py thin film thickness decreases. And the FMR results show that the effective saturation magnetization, $M_{eff}$, increase from 7.205($\pm$0.013) kOe to 7.840($\pm$0.014) kOe, while the film thickness varies from 10 to 40 nm.

  • We obtained resonance field ($H_{res}$) and linewidth (${\Delta}H_{PP}$) from measured ferromagnetic resonance signal in the functions of polar angle (${\Theta}_H$) in Ni thin film of 240 nm thickness fabricated by electrodeposition method. The angular dependence of $H_{res}$ was well fitted with the calculated ones. We confirmed that the g-factor and effective demagnetization field were 2.18 and 445 emu/cc by the theoretical analysis of the resonance field, respectively. The angular dependence of ${\Delta}H_{PP}$ showed very large values at in-plane direction (${\Theta}_H=90^{\circ}$), which could not explained by the homogenous linewidth due to the Gilbert damping and inhomogeneous linewidth due to the angular variations and magnetization variations by the surface layer. Therefore, we considered the spin wave scattering (two magnon scattering) process in order to analyze the measured inhomogeneous linewidth, which was appeared in thicker film than the critical thickness of 50 nm. The defect medicated spin wave scattering played a key role in the electrodoposited Ni thin film of 240 nm thickness.
