  • To develop automobile parts, the unsaturated polyester based matrix resin(PR)/reinforcement(randomly oriented chopped E-glass fiber, GF) composites were prepared using sheet molding compound(SMC) compression molding. The effects of GF length(0.5, 1.0 1.5 and 2.0inch)/content (15, 20, 25, 30wt%) and number of ply(3, 4 and 5) on the specific gravity and mechanical properties of PR/GF composites were investigated in this study. The optimum length of GF was found to be about 1.0inch for achieving improved mechanical properties(tensile strength and initial modulus). The tensile strength and initial modulus of composites increased with increasing GF content up to 30wt%, which is favorable content range for SMC. The specific gravity, tensile strength/initial modulus, compressive strength/modulus, flexural strength/modulus and shear strength increased with increasing the number of ply up to 5, which is the maximum number of ply range for SMC. The effectiveness of ply number increased in the flexural strength > shear strength > compressive strength > tensile strength.

  • Several species belonging to the Gibberella fujikuroi species (Gf ) complex are commonly associated with rice and corn, not only causing serious diseases, but also producing fumonisins, a group of mycotoxins harmful to animals and humans. To characterize the population structure of the putative fumonisin-producing Gf complex in Korea, we obtained 276 candidate isolates from rice and corn harvested in 2009 and 2010 by diagnostic polymerase chain reaction with several specific primer sets. Phylogenetic trees were constructed using multilocus sequences (combined RPB2 and EF1A, totaling 1.6 kb) from these isolates. Among the 135 isolates from rice, F. fujikuroi (teleomorph: G. fujikuroi; 59.3%) and F. proliferatum (G. intermedia; 13.3%) were predominant, followed by F. concentricum (5.9%). Additionally, twenty-five (18.5%) rice isolates belonged in a distinct subclade of F. commune, a non-member of the Gf complex. In contrast, F. verticillioides was the most predominant species (38.3%) among the 141 corn isolates, and followed by F. fujikuroi (27.7%), F. proliferatum (14.9%), F. subglutinans (7.1%), and F. concentricum (2.8%). A single mating type (MAT1-1) was found predominantly among the Gf complex isolates examined. Possible distinct subclades were detected within the populations of F. fujikuroi and F. proliferatum; however, this needs further confirmation. This is the first reported population-level characterization of putative fumonisin-producing Gf complex associated with rice and corn in Korea.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the microleakage of the amalgam and the gallium alloy when several lining materials were applied. The ANA 2000, high copper lathecut type amalgam(AM group) and Gallium Alloy GF II (GF group) were used. The fifty extracted sound molars were randomly assigned to AM group and GF group, and the buccal and lingual class V cavities with a size $3{\times}2{\times}2mm$ were prepared. The prepared cavities were randomly assigned to group 1 : no liner used control, group 2 : Copalite, group 3 : Panavia 21, group 4 : All-bond 2, and group 5 : Superbond C&B. After liner placement and amalgam filling, the specimens were stored in $37^{\circ}C$ normal saline for 24 hours and then thermocycled from $5^{\circ}C$ to $55^{\circ}C$ thousand times. The specimens were stored in the 1% methylene blue solution for 24 hours and sectioned and examined by stereomicroscope. The results obtained from this study can be summarized as follows : 1. In the GF group, microleakage values of group 2, 3, 4, 5 were significantly lower than that of group 1 (p<0.05). 2. In the AM group, microleakage values of group 3 and 4 were significantly lower than that of group 1 (p<0.05), but microleakage values of group 2 and 5 did not differ from that of group 1 (p>0.05). 3. The GF group was similar(group, 1 3, 4) or superior(group 2, 5) to the AM group in the aspect of the microleakage.

  • This paper propose a new generation method of GRM coefficients using the circulation property of polarity over GF(3). The general method to derive GRM coefficients are obtain the filled polarity of GRM coefficients using RM expansion and expand it for the polarities. Since the general method has many operations when the number of the variables are incremented. Proposed method in this paper simplifies the generation procedure and reduces a number of operators compare to parallel type because of the cyclic property of polarity. Comparing to the proposed papers, the proposed method use only adders without multiplier. So it improves the complexity of the system with efficient composition of the circuits.

  • In this paper, we propose a new multiplication algorithm for primitive polynomial with all 1 of coefficient in case that m is odd and even on finite fields $GF(3^m)$, and compose the multiplier with parallel input-output module structure using the presented multiplication algorithm. The proposed multiplier is designed $(m+1)^2$ same basic cells that have a mod(3) addition gate and a mod(3) multiplication gate. Since the basic cells have no a latch circuit, the multiplicative circuit is very simple and is short the delay time $T_A+T_X$ per cell unit. The proposed multiplier is easy to extend the circuit with large m having regularity and modularity by cell array, and is suitable to the implementation of VLSI circuit.

  • In this paper, we first propose a fast division algorithm in GF($2^{163}$) using standard basis representation, and then it is mapped into divider for GF($2^{163}$) with iterative hardware structure. The proposed algorithm is based on the binary ExtendedGCD algorithm, and the arithmetic operations for modular reduction are performed within only one "while-statement" unlike conventional approach which uses two "while-statement". In this paper, we use reduction polynomial $f(x)=x^{163}+x^7+x^6+x^3+1$ that is recommended in SEC2(Standards for Efficient Cryptography) using standard basis representation, where degree m = 163. We also have implemented the proposed iterative architecture in FPGA using Verilog HDL, and it operates at a clock frequency of 85 MHz on Xilinx-VirtexII XC2V8000 FPGA device. From implementation results, we will show that computation speed of the proposed scheme is significantly improved than the existing two approaches.

  • In various industry, the composite is tried to be applied to products and thermoplastic based composite is in the spotlight because this composite can be recycled. The use of continuous fiber thermoplastic (CFT) method increased gradually than long fiber thermoplastic (LFT). In this study, tensile, flexural, and impact test of different array types of glass fiber (GF)/thermoplastic composites were performed to compare with GF array. Impregnation property between GF mat and thermoplastic was determined using computed tomography (CT). At CFT method, thermoplastic film is not wet into GF roving and many voids are appeared into composite. This phenomenon affects to decrease mechanical properties. Plain pattern GF mat was the best mechanical and impregnation properties that distance between two roving was set closely to $100{\mu}m$.

  • Recently, an efficient hardware development for a cryptosystem is concerned. The efficiency of a multiplier for GF($2^n$)is directly related to the efficiency of some cryptosystem. This paper, considering the trade-off between time complexity andsize complexity, proposes a new multiplier architecture having n[n/2] AND gates and n([n/2]+1)- $$\Delta$_n$ = XOR gates, where $$\Delta$_n$=1 if n is even, $$\Delta$_n$=0 otherwise. This size complexity is less than that of existing ${multipliers}^{[5][12]}$which are $n^2$ AND gates and $n^2$-1 XOR gates. While a new multiplier is a serial-parallel multiplier to output a result of multiplication of two elements of GF($2^n$) after 2 clock cycles, the suggested multiplier is more suitable for some cryptographic device having space limitations.

  • This paper investigated acoustic emission (AE) characteristics in association with various fracture processes of glass fiber reinforced plastic skin/ aluminum honeycomb core (GF-AH) hybrid composites under compressive and bending loads. Various failure modes such as skin layer fracture, skin/core interfacial fracture, and local plastic yield buckling and cell wall adhesive fracture occurring in the honeycomb cell wall were classified through the fracture identification in association with the AE frequency and amplitude analysis. The distribution of the event-rate in which it has a high amplitude showed a procedure of cell wall adhesive fracture, skin/core interfacial debonding and fiber breakage, whereas distribution of different peak frequencies indicated the plastic deformation of aluminum cell wall and the friction between honeycomb walls. Consequently, the fracture behaviors of GF-AH hybrid composites could be characterized through a nondestructive evaluation employing the AE technique.

  • The effect of glass fibres (GF) and polypropylene fibres (PPF) on the fresh properties and mechanical properties of lightweight concrete (LWC) exposed to high temperatures is investigated in this study. In this study, fifteen LWC mixtures were carried out in three different groups reinforced with PPF or GF fibers by 0%, 0.2%, and 0.4% by volume of concrete. The first group included aluminum powder (AP) as an air agent at 0.03% with the normal weight coarse aggregate (NWCA) by 100% of the weight of coarse aggregate. In the second group, 33% of the NWCA weight was replaced by lightweight coarse aggregate (LWCA). In the third group, 67% of the NWCA weight was replaced by LWCA. The slump, unit weight, Compressive strength (CS), tensile strength (TS), and flexural strength (FS) were examined. For two hours, the CS and FS were subjected to elevated temperatures of 200℃, 400℃, and 600℃, in addition to microstructure analysis of concrete. In comparison to the reference mixture, the fresh properties and bulk density of LWC decreased with the use of the air agent or the replacement of 67% of the NWCA with LWCA. As a result of the fiber addition, both the slump test and the bulk density decreased. The addition of fibers increased the CS; the highest CS was 38.5 MPa when 0.4% GF was added, compared to 28.9 MPa for the reference mixture at the test age of 28 days. In addition, flexural and TS increased by 53% and 38%, respectively, for 0.4% GF mixes. As well as, adding 0.4% GF to LWC maintained a higher CS than other mixtures.
