  • This paper investigates a variable geometry (VG) mixed flow turbine with a novel, purposely designed pivoting nozzle vane ring. The nozzle vane ring was matched to the 3-dimensional aspect of the mixed flow rotor leading edge with lean stacking. It was found that for a nozzle vane ring in a volute, the vane surface pressure is highly affected by the flow in the volute rather than the adjacent vane surface interactions, especially at closer nozzle positions. The performance of the VG mixed flow turbine has been evaluated experimentally in steady and unsteady flow conditions. The VG mixed flow turbine shows higher peak efficiency and swallowing capacity at various vane angle settings compared to an equivalent nozzleless turbine. Comparison with an equivalent straight vane arrangement shows a higher swallowing capacity but similar efficiencies. The VG turbine unsteady performance was found to deviate substantially from the quasi-steady assumption compared to a nozzleless turbine. This is more evident in the higher vane angle settings (smaller nozzle passage), where there are high possibility of choking during a pulse cycle. The presented steady and unsteady results are expected to be beneficial in the design of variable geometry turbochargers, especially the ones with a mixed flow turbine.

  • In this paper the concentration, yield and generation quantity of the ozone by the superposition discharge according to the coaxial electrodes geometry is described. In order to improve the ozone generation, a new type of ozonizer is proposed, where a silent discharge and a surface discharge are generated in the separated discharge spaces at the same time. To investigate the ozone generation dependency on electrode geometry, a few discharge tubes with different geometry were fabricated. In our experiment, the 60[Hz] one phase voltage is applied to the discharge tube which has three electrodes. And three kinds of discharges, two silent discharges and a surface discharge are superposed in the same space of the ozonizer. As a result, the followings are obvious. When two kinds of discharges are superposed under the condition using 3 electrode-3gap discharge tube, the maximum ozone efficiency is obtained.

  • We present a new geometry coding method for 3D meshes, an adaptive subdivision. Previous localized geometry coding methods have demonstrated better compression ratios than the global approach but they are considered hard to use in practice partly due to time - consuming quantization. Our new localized scheme replaces this quantization with an adaptive subdivision of the localized range. The deeper level a user chooses, the closer to the original the mesh will be restored. We also present an improved connectivity coder upon the current leading Angle-Analyzer's by applying a context-modeling. As a result, our new coder provides reliable and intuitive controls between bit-rate and distortion without losing efficiency.

  • This paper presents load transfer efficiency of skewed transverse joint of jointed concrete pavement with the fatigue model test. A 1/12 scale model was used to satisfy the geometry, loading, material similitude, which are variables to the skew angel of transverse joint. As the test results by fatigue load 700kgf applied, the deflection and stress of transverse joint were decreased as to increasing of skew angle of transverse joint. In addition, load transfer efficiency of transverse joint with skew angle is better than the load transfer efficiency of transverse joint without skew angle.

  • The full energy peak efficiency of a hyper pure germanium (HPGe) detector was calibrated in a wide energy range from 0.06 to 11 MeV. Both the experimental technique and the Monte Carlo method were used for the efficiency calibration. The measurement was performed using the standard radioisotopes in the low energy region of $60{\sim}1408$ keV, which was further extended up to 11 MeV by using the $^{14}N(n,r)\;and\;^{35}Cl(n,r)$ reactions. The GEANT Monte Carlo code was used for efficiency calculation. The calculated efficiency had the same dependency on the r-ray energy with the measurement, and the discrepancy between the calculation and the measurement was minimized by fine-tuning of the detector geometry. From the calculated result, the efficiency curve of the HPGe detector was reliably determined particularly in the high energy region above several MeV, where the number of measured efficiency points is relatively small despite the wide energy region. The calculated efficiency agreed with the measurement within about $7\%$. In addition to the efficiency calculation, the origin of the local minimum near 600 keV on the efficiency curve was analyzed as a general characteristics of a HPGe detector.

  • This paper presents a novel miniaturized 3-D cubic antenna for use in wireless sensor network (WSN) application. The geometry of this antenna is designed as a cube including a meander dipole antenna. A truly omnidirectional pattern is produced by this antenna in both E-plane and H-plane, which allows for non-intermittent communication that is orientation independent. The operating frequency lies in the ISM band (centered in 2.45 GHz). The dimensions of this ultra-compact cubic antenna are 1.25*1.12*1cm3 which features a length dimension λ/11. The coefficient which presents the overall antenna structure is Ka=0.44. The cubic shape of the antenna is allowing for smart packaging, as sensor equipment may be easily integrated into the cube hallow interior. The major constraint of WSN is the energy consumption. The power consumption of radio communication unit is relatively high. So it is necessary to design an antenna which improves the energy efficiency. The parameters considered in this work are the resonant frequency, return loss, efficiency, bandwidth, radiation pattern, gain and the electromagnetic field of the proposed antenna. The specificity of this geometry is that its size is relatively small with an excellent gain and efficiency compared to previously structures (reported in the literature). All results of the simulations were performed by CST Microwave Studio simulation software and validated with HFSS. We used Advanced Design System (ADS) to validate the equivalent scheme of our conception. Input here the part of summary.

  • OFDM is a key technology for 4G cellular systems in the future. But when OFDM is used in cellular system environment, it has severe inter-cell interference problems. In this paper, we propose an ICIC scheme that can reduce inter-cell interference for OFDM-based 4G cellular systems. and we analyze the efficiency of the proposed scheme. Simulation is carried out according to the simplified 3GPP LTE system level simulation parameters. We have confirmed the improvement of Geometry efficiency about 4dB at the results.

  • Electrostatic precipitators(EPs) have low pressure drop and high dust collection efficiency and are widely used for industrial dust collectors. The current-voltage characteristics, which are important to maintain high dust collection efficiency, depend on several factor: discharge electrode shape, gas flow property, dust loading etc. In this study, experiments are performed to investigate the current-voltage characteristics of the corona discharge of various electrode geometries and an empirical model is proposed to predict current-voltage characteristics of the corona discharge. The corona onset voltage correction coefficient$(\alpha)$ and the geometry correction coefficient$(k_g)$ are used to the conventional equation for wire-plate type discharge electrode. The corona onset voltages are -6.3kV and almost constant when the numbers of discharge pins are varied from 3 to 9. The length of discharge pins has very sensitive effects on the corona onset voltage. They are increased from -6.3 to -7.8kV when the discharge pin length are 8.5 and 4.5mm, respectively. The empirical model shows good agreement with experimental results and can predict the effects of discharge pin length and number.

  • The optimal design code of an axial flow pump has been developed to determine geometric and fluid dynamic variables under hydrodynamic as well as mechanical design constraints. The design code includes the optimization of the complete radial distribution of the geometry by determining the coefficients of 2$^{nd}$ order polynomials to represent the three-dimensional geometry. The optimization problem has been formulated with a nonlinear multivariable objective function, maximizing the efficiency and stall margin, while minimizing the net positive suction head required. Calculation of the objective function is based on the mean streamline analysis and through-flow analysis using the present state-of-the-art model. The optimal solution is calculated using the penalty function method in which the genetic optimizer is employed. The optimized efficiency and design variables are presented in this paper as a function of non-dimensional specific speed in the range, 2$\leq$ $n_{s}$ $\leq$10. The results can be used in preliminary design of axial flow pumps.
