As publicizing of electromagnetic devices such as smart_phone and drone etc. which are relate with geomagnetic direction, and recognition about the importance to space weather effect and their hazards rises up recently, it is required heavily that the study on the effective measurement of geomagnetic declination and geomagnetic field effects of space weather. The purpose of this study is that the investigation of the feasibility of the absolute geomagnetic measurement in a place, where man-made geomagnetic contamination is low or negligible, with replacing the azimuth marks used for the absolute geomagnetic declination measurement with unified control points(UCP) which established at suburb. Further to this, have first derived the correlation of daily variations and disturbance level between the published indices($K_P$ and $K_K$) and geomagnetic element calculated from geomagnetic data of Cheongyang observatory located at the middle stage in Korea and is a member of INTERMAGNET. In addition, have carried out that the absolute measurement for the geomagnetic declination at three places near unified control point and one place with wide open field in Korea. The world magnetic models(WMMs) are selected as the criteria for comparison on the feasibility of geomagnetic declination investigation near unified control points. We compared deviations of declination from absolute measurement with that obtained from WMMs, also those from WMMs inter-comparison. The result through examination and analysis show that the feasibility of the absolute geomagnetic declination measurement with replacing the azimuth marks with UCP which established at suburb is possible.
BOH magnetometer was installed at Mt. Bohyun in 2007 and has provided continuous dataset for 3-axis geomagnetic field over the South Korea. We have calculated real-time K-index based on BOH magnetic field data using well-known FMI method. Local K-index is calculated eight times a day, per every three hours. To calculate K-index, it is critical to get the Quiet Day Curve (QDC). For QDC calculation, we take the previous one month's average of H-component. In this paper, we compared four geomagnetic stations' magnetic field data over South Korea and Japan and K-indices of each stations; Bohyun, Gangneung, Jeju, and Kakioka for two years data, 2011-2012. To investigate the difference depending on the latitude, longitude and local time in more detail, we compare K-index on International Quiet Days (IQDs) and International Disturbed Days (IDDs). As a result, we report the correlation between local K-indices are higher than those between Kp and local K-indices, and the correlation is much better after sunset than after sunrise. As the geomagnetic activity becomes stronger, the correlation between the local K-indices and global Kp-index become higher.
Experimental investigations of the magnetization, magnetostriction and magnetoelectric (ME) effects were performed on sandwich - type Metglas/PZT/Metglas laminate composites. The results have been analyzed by taking into account the demagnetization contribution. The study has pointed out that the magnetic flux concentration is strongly improved in piezomagnetic laminates with a narrower width leading to a significant enhancement of the ME effects. The piezomagnetic laminates with the optimal area dimension were integrated to form a 2-D geomagnetic device, which simultaneously can precisely detect the strength as well as inclination of the earth's magnetic field. In this case, a magnetic field resolution of better than $10^{-4}$ Oe and an angle precision of ${\pm}0.1^{\circ}$ were determined. This simple and low-cost geomagnetic-field device is promising for various applications.
The solar eclipse affects terrestrial environments in various aspects. For instance, it is well known that the electron concentration and current density decrease in the ionosphere due to the reduction of solar irradiation during solar eclipse. In this study, we carry out the statistical analysis of x, y, z, H-components, and the intensity of the geomagnetic field using the ground based geomagnetic data observed during the solar eclipses from 1991 to 2016. First, we confirm that characteristic decreases in the x and H-components can be seen in the vicinity of the maximum eclipse time at the observing site. Second, we find that the decrease in x and H-components is more conspicuous during the total solar eclipse rather than the partial or annular eclipses. We also find that such a dip is likely to be noticed when the observing site locates in the second half compared to the first half of the eclipse path, as well as when the eclipse occurs in dusk side than in dawn side. Third, we find that reductions in the ground geomagnetic field by the solar eclipse are more evident in the ascending phase of the solar cycle than in the descending phase. Finally, we briefly discuss implications of our findings.

Conventional RF signal-based indoor localization techniques such as BLE or Wi-Fi based fingerprinting method show considerable localization errors even in small-scale indoor environments due to unstable received signal strength(RSS) of RF signals. Therefore, it is difficult to apply the existing RF-based fingerprinting techniques to large-scale indoor environments such as airports and department stores. In this paper, instead of RF signal we use the geomagnetic sensor signal for indoor localization, whose signal strength is more stable than RF RSS. Although similar geomagnetic field values exist in indoor space, an object movement would experience a unique sequence of the geomagnetic field signals as the movement continues. We use a deep neural network model called the recurrent neural network (RNN), which is effective in recognizing time-varying sequences of sensor data, to track the user's location and movement path. To evaluate the performance of the proposed geomagnetic field based indoor positioning system (IPS), we constructed a magnetic field map for a campus testbed of about $94m{\times}26$ dimension and trained RNN using various potential movement paths and their location data extracted from the magnetic field map. By adjusting various hyperparameters, we could achieve an average localization error of 1.20 meters in the testbed.

This paper is to aim to review the basic theory of geomagnetic survey and analize the field observation data (1980-1989) measured by Korea G S I. The magnetic Chart of Korea is mapped with use of the analized results and the principal scheme about Korea geomagnetic survey is furthermore proposed
We investigate two abnormal CME-Storm pairs that occurred on 2014 September 10 - 12 and 2015 March 15 - 17, respectively. The first one was a moderate geomagnetic storm ($Dst_{min}{\sim}-75nT$) driven by the X1.6 high speed flare-associated CME ($1267km\;s^{-1}$) in AR 12158 (N14E02) near solar disk center. The other was a very intense geomagnetic storm ($Dst_{min}{\sim}-223nT$) caused by a CME with moderate speed ($719km\;s^{-1}$) and associated with a filament eruption accompanied by a weak flare (C9.1) in AR 12297 (S17W38). Both CMEs have large direction parameters facing the Earth and southward magnetic field orientation in their solar source region. In this study, we inspect the structure of Interplanetary Flux Ropes (IFRs) at the Earth estimated by using the torus fitting technique assuming self-similar expansion. As results, we find that the moderate storm on 2014 September 12 was caused by small-scale southward magnetic fields in the sheath region ahead of the IFR. The Earth traversed the portion of the IFR where only the northward fields are observed. Meanwhile, in case of the 2015 March 17 storm, our IFR analysis revealed that the Earth passed the very portion where only the southward magnetic fields are observed throughout the passage. The resultant southward magnetic field with long-duration is the main cause of the intense storm. We suggest that 3D magnetic field geometry of an IFR at the IFR-Earth encounter is important and the strength of a geomagnetic storm is strongly affected by the relative location of the Earth with respect to the IFR structure.
Recent three years of geomagnetic data were analyzed using a method of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Wavelet Based Semblance Analysis to investigate any geomagnetic variation caused by earthquakes. This method predicts the geomagnetic variation using the PCA analysis of geomagnetic data, then compares the predicted geomagnetic field with the observation of finding any significant residual. Although it is well known that geomagnetic variation is related with earthquake, most analyses have been limited to some specific cases reflecting the correlation. In this study, we analyze seventeen cases of earthquakes that occurred in and around the Korean peninsula from 2009 to 2011 and that show the precursory and co-seismic relation between the earthquakes and geomagnetic variations.
We analyzed a total of six months of geomagnetic data obtained at Cheonyang observatory, which is operated by Korean Meteorological Administration, to monitor earthquake precursors. Geomagnetic transfer functions (GTFs) and polarization values, which reflect the time-variations of the resistivity of subsurface, were estimated from 3-component geomagnetic data. The time-variant fluctuations were compared with the earthquake events occurred in the same period. Now that the daily GTFs show fairly irregular variations, we can not identify any correlation with the already occurred earthquakes and Kp index. On the other hand, we detect clear increases of the Ultra-Low-Frequency (ULF) band polarization values before the earthquakes, but the similar features are also observed even though the earthquake did not occur. This result may indicate that these time-variations are not just due to the earthquake precursor. For further understanding about these results, we need to investigate the relationship between the previous earthquake events and the geomagnetic data of other observatories.

Geomagnetic is refracted by building's wall and pillar. Therefore refracted geomagnetic is able to be used as feature point. In a specific space, a mobile device that is equipped with magnetic sensor array measures 3-axis magnetic field for each point. Magnetic field map is acquired by collecting the every sample point in the magnetic field. The measured magnetic field must be calibrated, because each magnetic sensor has a distortion. For this reason, sensor distortion model and sensor calibration method are proposed in this paper. Magnetic field that is measured by mobile device matches magnetic field map. Result of the matching is used for position estimation. This paper implements hardware system for position estimation method using magnetic field map.
