  • This paper presents a numerical optimization technique to reduce input current and torque ripple of the low voltage BLDC motor using core, coil and switching angle optimization. The optimization technique is employed using the generalized response surface method(RSM) and sampling minimization technique with FEM. A 50W 24V BLDC motor is used to verify the proposed algorithm. As optimizing results, the input current is reduced from 2.46 to 2.11[A], and the input power is reduced from 59 [W] to 51 [W] at the speed of 1000 [rpm]. Also, applied the same optimization algorithm, the torque ripple is reduced about 7.4 %. It is confirmed that the proposed technique is a reasonably useful tool to reduce the consuming current and torque ripple of the low voltage BLDC motor for a compact and efficient design.

  • The prediction of the inelastic behavior of the structure is an essential part of reliability assessment procedure, because most of the failures are induced by the inelastic deformation, such as creep and plastic deformation. During decades, there has been much progress in understanding of the inelastic behavior of the materials and a lot of inelastic constitutive equations have been developed. These equations consist of the definition of inelastic strain and the evolution of the state variables introduced to quantify the irreversible processes occurred in the material. With respect to the definition of the inelastic strain, the inelastic constitutive models can be categorized into elastoplastic model, unified viscoplastic model and separated viscoplastic model and the different integration methods have been applied to each category. In the present investigation, the generalized integration method applicable for various types of constitutive equations is developed and implemented into ABAQUS by means of UMAT subroutine. The solution of the non-linear system of algebraic equations arising from time discretization with the generalized midpoint rule is determined using line-search technique in combination with Newton method. The strategy to control the time increment for the improvement of the accuracy of the numerical integration is proposed. Several numerical examples are considered to demonstrate the efficiency and applicability of the present method. • This paper concerns the development of a knowledge-based tunnel design system within the framework of artificial neural networks (ANNs). The system is aimed at expediting a routine tunnel design works such as determination of support patterns and stability analysis of selected support patterns. A number of sub-modules for determination of support patterns and stability assessment were developed and implemented to the system. It is shown that the ANNs trained with the results of 2D and 3D numerical analyses can be generalized with a reasonable accuracy, and that the ANN based tunnel design concept is a robust tool for tunnel design optimization. The details of the system architecture and the ANNs development are discussed in this paper.

  • The concept of homology design has been devised for the application to large telescope structure by S.v.Hoerner. It is defined that the deformation of a structure shall be called homologous, if a given geometrical relation holds, for a given number of structural points, before, during, and after the deformation. Recently, the need of homology design in the structural design has been increase due to the required precision in the structure. Some researchers have utilized the theory on the structural design with finite element method in the late 1980s In the present investigation, a simple method using geometrical equality constraints is suggested to gain homologous deformation. The previous method is improved in that the decomposition of FEM eqation, which is very expensive, is not necessary. The basic formulations of the homology design with the optimization concept are described and several practical examples are solved to verify the usefulness and validity. Especially, a back-up structure of a satellite antenna is designed by the suggested method. The results are compared with those of existing researches.

  • In this paper, we applied mode matching and generalized scattering matrix methods to three plane mode matching method for analyzing T-junctions. We calculated all scattering matrix elements by only three times and considered several incident modes. By proposed analysis method, we could analyze various waveguide discontinuity structures more conveniently and accurately. Using the stepped T-junction, we would be able to reduce the reflection coefficient at an input port and use it over wider band. Simulated and HFSS data of T-junctions are compared, showing good agreement for scattering matrix elements. Considering step numbers, height, length and position, we extracted for optimum dimensions and equivalent circuit parameters.

  • This paper describes an approach for the numerical analysis of container ship slamming and whipping and various parameters that influence slamming and whipping. For validation purposes, the numerical analysis results were compared with experimental results obtained as part of the Wave-Induced Loads on Ships Joint Industry Project. Water entry problems for two-dimensional (2D) sections were first solved using a 2D generalized Wagner model (GWM) for various drop conditions and geometries. As the next step, the hydroelastic numerical analysis of a 10,000-TEU container ship subjected to slamming and whipping loads in waves was performed. The analysis method used is based on a fully coupled model consisting of a three-dimensional (3D) Rankine panel model, a 3D finite element model (FEM), and a 2D GWM, which are strongly coupled in the time domain. Parametric studies were carried out in both numerical and experimental tests with various forward speeds, wave heights, and wave periods. The trends observed and the validity of the numerical analysis results are discussed.

  • In this study, a comparison study of flutter analysis for the AGARD 445.6 wing with wind turnnel test data has been conducted in the subsonic, transonic and supersonic flow regions. Nonlinear aeroelastic using FSIPRO3D which is a generalized user-friendly fluid-structure analyses have been conducted for a 3D wing configuration considering shockwave and turbulent viscosity effects. The developed fluid-structure coupled analysis system is applied for aeroelastic computations combining computational structure dynamics(CSD), finite element method(FEM) and computations fluid dynamics(CFD) in the time domain. MSC/NASTRAN is used for the vibration analysis of a wing model, and then the result is applied to the FSIPRO3D module. the results for dynamic aeroelastic response using different turbulent models are presented for several Mach numbers. Calculated flutter boundary are compared with the wind-tunnel experimental and the results show very good agreements.

  • The study investigates and measures the impact of financial restructuring on overall financial performance of commercial banks in Vietnam. Survey data for this research were collected from audited financial reports of 28 commercial banks in Vietnam, for the period from 2008 to 2018. In the study, we have built a model of econometric regression with the dependent variable being financial results measured through ROA and ROE. The research methods used include Pooled Ordinary Least Square Model (POLS), Fixed Effects Model (FEM), Random Effects Model (REM), and different Generalized Method of Moments (GMM). The results showed that the account payables restructuring and owners' equity restructuring are much needed. Increasing the owners' equity, decreasing the account payables would improve the overall financial performance, bad debts restructuring to decrease bad debts would also improve the financial performance as well. However, the financial restructuring in the period 2012-2015 and 2016-2018, indeed worsen the financial performance during those times. The findings of this study suggest that the evaluation of the financial performance after restructuring of commercial banks in Vietnam must be based on longer data. At the same time, it is necessary to examine differences between various banking groups to draw accurate conclusions on financial performance.

  • An immune system has powerful abilities such as memory, recognition and learning how to respond to invading antigens, and has been applied to many engineering algorithms in recent year. In this pap er, the combined optimization algorithm (Immune- Genetic Algorithm: IGA) is proposed for multi-optimization problems by introducing the capability of the immune system that controls the proliferation of clones to the genetic algorithm. The optimizing ability of the proposed combined algorithm is identified by comparing the result of optimization with simple genetic algorithm for two dimensional multi-peak function which have many local optimums. Also the new combined algorithm is applied to minimize the total weight of the shaft and the transmitted forces at the bearings. The inner diameter oil the shaft and the bearing stiffness are chosen as the design variables. The dynamic characteristics are determined by applying the generalized FEM. The results show that the combined algorithm and reduce both the weight of the shaft and the transmitted forces at the bearing with dynamic conatriants.
