In this paper, a general technique is proposed for solving a system of fourth-order boundary value problems. The solution is given in the form of series and its approximate solution is obtained by truncating the series. Advantages of the method are that the representation of exact solution is obtained in a new reproducing kernel Hilbert space and accuracy of numerical computation is higher. Numerical results show that the method employed in the paper is valid. Numerical evidence is presented to show the applicability and superiority of the new method.

In this study, an analytical expression for aerosol mass transfer at spherical collector in the low Knudsen number region was obtained. Happel's zero shear stress cell model was extended in the low Knudsen number region and the result was compared with numerical solution results. The zero vorticity model based on the Kuwabara's cell model was also extended in the low Knudsen number region and compared with Happel's results. The results showed that both analytic and numerical solution agree very well with each other in low Knudsen number region. Happel's zero shear stress model also agrees with Kuwabara's zero vorticity model without significant loss of accuracy. The obtained solution converges to the original solution of Lee et al. (1999) when Knudsen number approaches to zero. Subsequently, this study derived most general type of analytic solution for aerosol mass transfer of spherical collector including the finite Knudsen number region.
Porous ceramic cups are used for monitoring ion concentration in soil solutions in various time course and depth. A soil solution sampler was constructed in laboratory by inserting pliable perfluoroalkoxy(PFA) tubings into porous cup through holes in PVC rod segment which plugged top opening of the porous cup. The system was installed in drip irrigated soil in a vertical position, and nitrogen movement below the drip basin was monitored. To collect soil solution, vacuum in the cup was applied with a hand vacuum pump. The samples obtained were sufficient enough to run quantitative analyses for a number of chemicals. Nitrogen transformation and movement could be well defined, and the system seemed to be relevant to the other soil solution samplers in monitoring chemical movement in soil. Although this system has general deficiencies found in the other samplers using ceramic cup, it could be easily constructed at a low cost. Since the tubing was pliable, the cups could be installed in horizontal position, and this allows installations of the cups at more precise depth increments and also more precise samplings of soil solution at each depth.
When waterlogged wood dries up, it shrinks largely. And it is hard to recover original shape. Therefore it happens to lose the value of wood remains frequently. This paper studied how far dried waterlogged wood can recover original shape. Shape recovering course and extent are thoroughly investigated after waterlogged wood of Pinus densiflora, Quercus serrata and Styrax japonica oven-dries and instills varieties of test solution. At 1- step, oven-dried samples infiltrated by chlorous acid sodium or sodium hydroxide solution. At 2- step, wood tissues of samples were swelled by the fast decompression after infiltrating $CO_2-supercritical$ fluid at high pressure. The study investigated the possibility of shape recovering in waterlogged wood. Shape recovering rate is different with solution and wood species. Sample of sodium hydroxide solution doesn't swell anymore when using $CO_2-supercritical$ fluid. In general, the sample of sodium hydroxide solution has higher Shape recovering rate than $CO_2-supercritical$ fluid solution treated by chlorous acid sodium.

In this paper we introduce and consider a new class of variational inequalities with four operators. This class is called the extended general mixed quasi variational inequality. We show that the extended general mixed quasi variational inequality is equivalent to the fixed point problem. We use this alternative equivalent formulation to discuss the existence of a solution of extended general mixed quasi variational inequality and also develop several iterative methods for solving extended general mixed quasi variational inequality and its variant forms. We consider the convergence analysis of the proposed iterative methods under appropriate conditions. We also introduce a new class of resolvent equation, which is called the extended general implicit resolvent equation and establish an equivalent relation between the extended general implicit resolvent equation and the extended general mixed quasi variational inequality. Some special cases are also discussed.
New functional surfactant, N,N-dimethyl-N-dodecyl-N-(2-methyl benzimidazoyl) ammonium chloride(DDBAC) having benzimidazole(BI) functional group have been synthesized and the critical micellar concentration of DDBAC measured by surface tentiometry and electric conductivity method was $8.9{\times}10^{-4}M$. Micellar effects in DDBAC functional surfactant solution on the hydrolysis of p-nitrophenylacetate(p-NPA), p-nitro-phenylpropionate(p-NPP) and p-nitrophenylvalerate(p-NPV) were observed with change of various pH (Tris-buffer). The pseudo first rate constants of hydrolysis of p-NPA, p-NPP and p-NPV in optimum concentration of DDBAC solution increase to about 160, 280 and 600 times, respectively, as compared with those of aqueous solution at pH 8.00(Tris-buffer). It is considered that benzimidazole functional moiety accelerates the reaction rates of hydrolysis because they act as nucleophile or general base. In optimum concentration of DDBAC solution, the rate constants of hydrolysis of p-NPP and p-NPV increase to about 1.5 and 3.0 times, respectively, as compared with that of p-NPA. It means that the more the carbon numbers of alkyl group of substrates, the larger the binding constants between DDBAC micelle and substrates are. To know the hydrolysis mechanism of p-NPCE(p-NPA, p-NPP and p-NPV), the deuterium kinetic isotope effects were measured in $D_2O$ solutions. Consequently the pseudo first order rate constant ratios in $H_2O$ and $D_2O$ solution, $k_{H_2O}/k_{D_2O}$, were about $2.8{\sim}3.0$ range. It means that the mechanism of hydrolysis were proceeded by nucleophile and general base attack in approximately same value.
In this study, we investigated the characteristics of the analogies, the mapping understanding, and the mapping errors on saturated solution of scientifically-gifted and general elementary students. Fifth graders (n=60) at four scientifically-gifted education institutes in Seoul and/or Gyeonggi province and fifth graders (n=91) at three elementary schools in Seoul were selected and assigned to the scientifically-gifted group and the general group respectively. After the students of each group performed the experiment and were taught about the target concept in the first class, they administered the test on the self-generating analogies on the target concept in the second class. The results revealed that the students in the scientifically-gifted group made more analogies, especially verbal/pictorial, structural/functional, enriched, and higher systematic ones, and had deeper understanding of the analogy than those in the general group. The numbers of the shared attributes included in the student-generated analogies and the scores of the mapping understanding of the students in the scientifically-gifted group were significantly higher than those in the general group. The students in the scientifically-gifted group had fewer mapping errors than those in the general group. However, not a few students in the scientifically-gifted group had at least one mapping error. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.
An efficient solution algorithm of the optimal load distribution problem with joint torque constraints is presented. Multiple robot system where each robot is rigidly grasping a common object is considered. The optimality criteria used is the sum of weighted norm of the joint torque vectors. The maximum and minimum bounds of each joint torque in arbitrary form are considered as constraints, and the solution that reduces the internal force to zero is obtained. The optimal load distribution problem is formulated as a quadratic optimization problem in R, where I is the number of robots. The general solution can be obtained using any efficient numerial method for quadratic programming, and for dual robot case, the optimal solution is given in a simple analytical form.

In general, the contact pressure to the die cannot be easily determined by using upper bound solution. Recently, the authors have proposed the method determining the contact pressure with the upper bound solution for the forming with the plane stain plastic deformation. In this paper, the method is applied to an axisymmetric forward extrusion process. The contact pressure to the die of the axisymmetric extrusion has been determined with the upper bound solution and compared with the result of rigid plastic FEM. The optimal semi-angles of die have been obtained minimizing the relative contact pressure to die fur the extrusion ratio.

The zone clustering problem arising from several area such as deciding the optimal location of ambient measuring stations is to devide the 2-dimensional area into several sub areas in which included individual zone shows simimlar properties. In general, the optimal solution of this problem is very hard to obtain. Therefore, instead of finding an optimal solution, the generation of near optimal solution within the limited time is more meaningful. In this study, the combination of a genetic algorithm and the modified k-means method is used to obtain the near optimal solution. To exploit the genetic algorithm effectively, a representation of chromsomes and appropriate genetic operators are proposed. The k-means method which is originally devised to solve the object clustering problem is modified to improve the solutions obtained from the genetic algorithm. The experiment shows that the proposed method generates the near optimal solution efficiently.
