Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess general population' AIDS knowledge and attitudes towards AIDS. Methods: Using a multistage area sampling and random digit dialing method, a random sample of individuals aged 19-59 years, living in 16 different area in Korea during September 2007 were interviewed by telephone. Results: In all, 1,087 respondents completed the survey. In most items, respondents displayed a fairly good degree of knowledge about AIDS. However it was lower than that in developed countries. Respondents' attitudes towards AIDS were found to be negative. The knowledge and attitudes towards AIDS were more positive for respondents who were young, educated, office worker or students, higher in income. The higher level of knowledge, the more positive attitudes towards AIDS. Conclusions: In general AIDS related knowledge was relatively low and people showed negative attitudes towards AIDS. Incorrect knowledge and lack of information on AIDS would lead to unnecessary negative attitudes and there need to be addressed by health education programs and campaigns using mass media.
Extensive studies have shown that breast milk is the best source of nutrition for infants, especially during the first six months, because it fulfills almost all of their nutritional needs. Among the many functional building blocks in breast milk, human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) have been receiving more attention recently. Furthermore, it is the third most common group of compounds in human milk, and studies have demonstrated the health benefits it provides for infants, including improved nutritional status. HMOs were previously known as the 'bifidus factor' due to their 'bifidogenic' or prebiotic effects, which enabled the nourishment of the gastrointestinal microbiota. Healthy gastrointestinal microbiota are intestinal health substrates that increase nutrient absorption and reduce the incidence of diarrhea. In addition, HMOs, directly and indirectly, protect infants against infections and strengthen their immune system, leading to a positive energy balance and promoting normal growth. Non-modifiable factors, such as genetics, and modifiable factors (e.g., maternal health, diet, nutritional status, environment) can influence the HMO profile. This review provides an overview of the current understanding of how HMOs can contribute to the prevention and treatment of nutritional issues during exclusive breastfeeding.
This study attempts to examine the impact of a documentary film, on the perception and satisfaction with the public health insurance system in South Korea. It is needed that public support to expand health insurance coverage and to intensify national health insurance. The documentary film investigates health care in the United States, comparing with the non-profit universal health care systems of Canada, the United Kingdom, France and Cuba. So an online education content for the general education was developed using this film and the surveys were carried out to gather information about perception, satisfaction and opinion on national health insurance system before the lesson and after. And pared t tests were conducted to analyze the effects of this education content using the film on perception and attitudes towards national health insurance system. Based on the empirical results, the way to develop education contents for improving the understanding public health system and to verify the effect of education contents were discussed.
Objectives: General practitioners (GPs) retention in rural and underserved areas highly effects on accessibility of healthcare facilities across the country. Education seems to be a critical factor that affects GPs retention. Thus, the present study aimed at inquiry into medical education challenges that limit their retention in rural and underserved areas. Methods: A qualitative approach was applied for the aim of this study. Data were gathered via 28 semi-structured interviews with experts at different levels of Iran's health system as well as GPs who retained and refused to retain working in rural settings. Interviews mainly were performed face-to-face and in some cases via telephone during 2015 and then coded and analyzed using content analysis approach. Results: Iran's medical education is faced with several challenges that were categorized in four main themes including student selection, medical students' perception about their field of study, education setting and approach, curriculum of medical education. According to experts this challenges could results in making GP graduates disinterested for practicing in rural and underserved areas. Conclusions: Challenges that were found could have negative effects on retention. Modification in student's perception about rural practice could be done via changing education setting and approach and curriculum. These modifications could improve GPs retention in rural and underserved areas.
The purpose of this study was to identify the factors that affected to physical functions, activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs). The subjects for this study, 236 persons, 65 years and over, who were living at rural area in Chun-Cheon city. This survey was carried out from march 3rd to April 25th, 1998. The data was analysed by using SPSS PC+ program. The results were as follows. 1.The variables that were related to the conditions of physical functions were as follows; age, sex, educational level among the general characteristics; raising ways of money, monthly using money for life, states of pocket money, obtaining method of pocket money, state of weight, problems in mind, whether or not chronic illness among socio ㆍeconoㆍphysical conditions; the level of satisfactions in life, subjective condition of health among the subjective thinking ; controlling state in smoking and drinking of alcohol among the lifestyles for promoting health. But the variables for medical utilization were not related to the level of physical function. 2. The variables that were associated with the condition of ADLs were as follows; age among the general characteristics; monthly using money for life, working amount among the socioㆍeconoㆍphysical conditions; subjective conditions of health among the subjective thinking. But The variables for medical utilization, lifestyle for promoting health were irrelevant to the conditions of ADLs. 3. The variables that were related to the conditions of IADLs were as follows; age, educational level among the general characteristics; raising ways of money, monthly using money for life, resident type in the household, procurement method of pocket money, level of weight, problems in mind, wether or not chronic illness among socioㆍeconoㆍphysical condition; regularity of health checking among lifestyles for promoting health; kinds of utilizing medical agent among the variables about utilization patterns of medical agencies; subjective condition of health among the subjective thinking In this study, in the aged there were related factors of physical and life functions, were age, working amount, subjective condition of health.
The purpose of this study is proving the effects of the internal customer satisfaction management on worker's job satisfaction at general hospital. In the relationship between the management and the satisfaction, the study also finds the moderating effect of the organizational support awareness and the organizational justice. For this study, it was surveyed targeting 270 employees who work in seven general hospitals in Busan. As the result, 246 questionnaires returned. All of these questionnaires were used in the final analysis. The method of analysis is descriptive statistics using SPSS VER. 18.0, correlation analysis, regression analysis, factor analysis and reliability analysis. The main results of empirical analysis were as follows: First, in the effect of the internal customer satisfaction management to worker's job satisfaction, it has positive effect to internal communication and the commission of authority and it has positive effect to worker's job satisfaction. Second, the organizational support awareness & the organizational justice have moderating effect on the relationship between the internal customer satisfaction management and worker's job satisfaction. Third, the study proves that supporting management hierarchy shows positive effects for all socio-demographic characteristics in the organizational support awareness and the organizational justice.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to find the limited patterns of middle-aged women in selective functional movement evaluation and analyze the effects of pattern improvement exercises and general control groups on the Health Risk Appraisal (HRA). Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: The 31 subjects were physically healthy middle-aged women aged 40-59 living in Seoul, The subjects were randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group. Forty-three physically healthy women were originally recruited and randomly assigned to either the experimental group (n=22) or the control group (n=21). However, due to lack of participation, a total of seventeen subjects in the exercise group and fourteen subjects in the control group participated in the study. All subjects were tested using Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) and HRA for the baseline measurement and joined an exercise program of their group for one hour per session, twice a week for four weeks. The experimental group was provided with the corrective exercises and the control group was given the general fitness program. A follow-up test was conducted after eight weeks from the baseline measurement. Results: Both experimental and control group showed significant changes in SFMA and HRA scores (p<0.05). In the experimental group and control groups, the SFMA and HRA showed significant improvement from baseline to 4 weeks (p<0.05). Also, in the experimental group, the SFMA was significantly improved from baseline to 8 weeks (p<0.05). For the experimental group, there was a significant improvement in SFMA after 4 weeks compared to the control group (p<0.05). Conclusions: The corrective exercise in the experimental group had a positive effect on the SFMA score as well as the general squat exercise in the control group. The corrective exercise and general control group had the same positive effect on the HRA score.
The purpose of this study was to assess the needs for nutrition programs in the public health centers by general characteristics and body mass index (BMI) of community residents. Information of general characteristics of study participants including age, education, income, marital status, residence, and job, and resident's interest in nutrition programs, the preferred educational methods and the willingness to participate in nutrition programs were collected by an interview. Weight and height were measured and were used to calculate the BMI. The program that resident's were most interested in was 'diet therapy for chronic disease and counseling' ($28.5\%$), followed by 'nutritional management for the elderly' ($21.1\%$), and 'obesity and weight control' ($17.1\%$). 'Education and counseling by nutrition professionals' was the most preferred educational method. Among the programs that the subjects would participate in, if they were offered in public health centers, $65.8\%$ subjects would participate in 'diet therapy for chronic disease and counseling' programs, $64.9\%$ would participate in 'nutritional management for the elderly' programs and $52.2\%$ would participate in 'obesity and weight control' programs. The contents of programs that the subjects were interested in, the preferred methods and their willingness to participate nutrition programs differed significantly by age, income, education, marital status, and body mass index. The results imply that the planning of nutrition interventions in the public health centers must be tailored and targeted group specific by taking the participants general characteristics and body mass index into consideration. This would surely increase the nutrition program's effectiveness
The purpose of this empirical study is to investigate whether costs are 'sticky' -that is, whether costs increase more when revenues rises than they decrease when revenues falls by an equivalent amount by using the financial data fromf korean general hospital Financial data used in this study were obtained from the Database of Korean Health Industry Development Institute and analyzed using multiple regression model in dummy variables. The main results of this study are as follows: First, we found, for 69 Korean general hospitals for 3 years(2000~2002), that total hospital costs, hospital labor costs, hospital administrative costs were sticky, these costs provided strong support for the sticky costs hypothesis 1, but hospital material costs were shown to be proportional to sales revenues. Second, this results provided strong support for the hypotheses that the' degree of stickiness was lower in sales revenues declining that were preceded by revenue-declining periods (hypothesis 2-1), and that stickiness was less pronounced in a second successive year of revenue decline(hypothesis 2-2). Third, this results provided strong support for the hypothesis(hypothesis 3) that stickiness was greater hospitals that employ relatively more people to support their sales revenues(hypothesis 4) that stickiness was greater for hospital that used relatively more assets to support their sales revenues. After all, a managerial implication of this study was that sticky cost, for the general hospital, could be recognized and controlled.
The goal of this study was to evaluate the relationship between metabolic syndrome risk factors and health promotion behavior in general hospital nurses. Data were conducted using a structured questionnaire survey with 450 registered nurses in a general hospital in Gyeonggido. Data were collected from October 6 to October 31, 2014. The data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 21.0. version. The overall prevalence of metabolic syndrome was 8.0% for nurses at a general hospital. The mean score of Health promotion lifestyle profile was 2.53( range: 1.22~3.44). The high prevalence risk groups for metabolic syndrome was between 26 and 30 yr of age, ICU nurses and drinking one or two times/1wk. The study indicates that hospital administrators should focus on job circumstances of nurses(especially nurses classified as high prevalence risk for metabolic syndrome) for improvement and prevention of MS prevalence risk.
