Self-perceived Stigma, Self-efficacy and Quality of Life in Psychiatric Outpatients (정신과 외래 환자가 지각하는 낙인과 자기효능감 및 삶의 만족도에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore self-reported perceived stigma, self-efficacy, and quality of life among psychiatric outpatients Methods: In the present study, researchers analyzed the survey responses of 195 patients recruited in the S hospital psychiatry outpatient clinic. The measurement tools used in this study were the "Devaluation & Discrimination" scale to determine perceptions of stigmatization, general and social efficacy scales to measure self-efficacy, and the "General Well-Being Index" to measure quality of life in psychiatric outpatient. Statistical analysis included means with standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficients to identify relationships between the variables. Results: There was a significant difference in self-perceived stigma and quality of life in psychiatric outpatients (r=-.233, p=.001) and a negative correlation between self-efficacy and quality of life (r=-.424, p=.000). Correlation analysis results support the hypothesis that higher self-perceived stigma scores were related to reduced quality of life among patients with schizophrenia (r=-.231, p=.021), while there was a positive correlation between self-perceived stigma scores and self-efficacy scores among patients with bipolar disorder (r=.362, p=.013). Conclusion: The findings suggest that nursing imtervention strategies should include education programs to reduce stigmatization and enhance self-efficacy and quality of life among patients with chronic psychiatric illnesses.

Effects of a Case-Based Sepsis Education Program for General Ward Nurses on Knowledge, Accuracy of Sepsis Assessment, and Self-efficacy

  • Purposes: Sepsis is a critical condition in which nurses should detect clinical manifestations and provide early intervention to prevent unwanted serious conditions in the patients. The initial occurrence and management of sepsis take place in general units, but there is a lack of knowledge in nurses. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a case-based sepsis education program and compare the case-based education program with and without smartphone applications. Methods: A quasi-experimental pre-test-post-test design with a control group was used. We provided a case-based education program with and without smartphone applications to the nurses and tested the effects of the program on knowledge, the accuracy of sepsis assessment, and self-efficacy as outcome variables. A total of 60 nurses in general units participated. To test differences in knowledge, the accuracy of sepsis assessment, and self-efficacy regarding sepsis between the groups over time, a mixed-design ANCOVA was used for parametric analysis, and generalized estimating equations (GEE) were used for nonparametric analysis. Results: There were significant differences in knowledge, the accuracy of sepsis assessment, and self-efficacy between the groups and within the groups over time. The intervention groups treated with the case-based education program showed improved outcome variables compared to the control group. There was no difference between case-based education with the smartphone application or without the application. Conclusions: The case-based education improved knowledge, the accuracy of sepsis assessment, and self-efficacy in the care of sepsis by nurses working in the general wards. The results suggest that the case-based education program for nurses was effective and eventually improved patient health outcomes.

Effect of Health Belief of Emerging Infectious Disease on Self-Efficacy for Healthcare among General Hospital Nurses (종합병원 간호사의 신종감염병 관리에 대한 건강신념이 건강관리 자기효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was to examine relationships among health belief of emerging infectious disease and self-efficacy for healthcare and identify the factors that influence on self-efficacy for healthcare in the general hospital nurses. The data were collected from 150 nurses working in the three general hospitals, located in S and Y city using self-administered questionnaires. Data was collected from January 11, 2021 to January 22. Among sub-factors of the health beliefs, perceived benefit (β=.17, p=.040), perceived sensitivity (β=.19, p=.020), and age (β=.21, p=.005), and these variables explained 14.0% of self-efficacy for healthcare(F=4.28, p<.001). Through this study, it is necessary to develop educational program self-efficacy for healthcare is needed for improving perceived benefit and perceived sensitivity among general hospital nurses.

A Convergence Study on the Cultural Adaptation Stress and Self-Efficacy on Career Preparation Behavior of Foreign Students (외국인 유학생의 문화적응스트레스 및 자기효능감, 진로준비행동에 관한 융복합 연구)

  • In this study, we examined whether cultural stress, self-efficacy, and career-preparation behavior differed depending on the general characteristics of foreign students, and whether cultural adaptation stress and self-efficacy affect career-preparation behavior. To this end, a survey of 231 foreign students was conducted and data was analyzed using the IBM SPSS v23 statistics program. According to the study, cultural adaptation stress and self-efficacy differed depending on the general characteristics of foreign students. And cultural adaptation stress and self-efficacy have been shown to affect career-preparation behavior. Therefore, it was suggested that the government needs to develop curriculums, comparisons and programs for foreign students to help them exchange culture and adapt their studies, and that it is necessary to have professional counseling staff residing in universities to conduct career and academic counseling.

Convergence Relation Research using AMOS of between Self-efficacy and Fatigue of workers in the field of railroad signaling (철도 신호분야 현장 근무자들의 자기효능감과 피로에 대한 AMOS를 이용한 융합적 관계 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to find the relation between the detailed categories of the self-efficacy of workers in the field of railroad signaling and the detailed categories of their fatigue in the use of analysis of moment structure(AMOS) model. A self-administered questionnaire survey of workers in the field of railroad signaling had been conducted and a total of 341 copies were analyzed. This study had the assumption that their general self-efficacy and social self-efficacy would negatively influence their physical fatigue and mental fatigue. As a result, their general self-efficacy negatively influenced their physical fatigue and mental fatigue, whereas their social self-efficacy didn't influence their physical fatigue and mental fatigue. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the fatigue of the study subjects by enhancing corporate support to increase their general self-efficacy.

Effects of Nursing Work Environment and Self-Efficacy of General Hospital Nurses on Medical Safety Competence in Korea (종합병원 간호사의 근무환경과 자기효능감이 투약안전역량에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effects of the nursing work environment and self-efficacy on medical safety competence of nurses in general hospital. Methods: Participants included 183 nurses who were recruited through convenience sampling in a general hospital in South Korea. Questionnaires were collected from August 25 to September 22, 2023. The nursing work environment, self-efficacy and medical safety competence scales were used to assess the study variables. The t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression tests were performed using IBM SPSS ver. 26.0. Results: Statistically significant correlations were found between nurses' medical safety competence and nursing work environment (r=.34, p<.001), and self-efficacy (r=.48, p<.001). Self-efficacy (β=.38, p<.001), nursing work environment (β=.25, p<.001), and clinical experience (β=.14, p=.043) had the greatest effect on nurses' medical safety competence (F=21.21, p<.001), with an explanatory power of 30.0%. Conclusion: This study confirmed that the nursing work environment and nurses' self-efficacy have a significant impact on nurses' medical safety competence. In order to implement patient safety in hospitals, it is necessary to develop and apply strategies to improve the nursing work environment and increase nurses' self-efficacy to enhance their medical safety capabilities.

A study on the communication ability, general self-efficacy, social self-efficacy and academic achievement of nursing freshmen (간호학과 신입생의 의사소통능력, 일반적 자기효능감, 사회적 자기효능감 및 학업성취에 관한 연구)

  • This descriptive research is to find communication ability, general and social self-efficacy, and academic achievement in peer collaboration subject of nursing freshmen. The data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 19.0. The communication ability was higher in the extroverts and high discussion preference ones(p=.01), females' social self-efficacy were higher than males'(p=.03), the general and social self-efficacy of the 'introverted' and 'middle' groups were higher than the extroverts'(p=.01). The social self-efficacy on the 'middle high', 'middle' and 'middle low' of self-evaluated school grades groups were higher than 'high' one's, even the academic achievement of 'high' group was the most(p=.01). There were negative correlations between communication ability and self-efficacy, and between social self-efficacy and academic achievement. And social self-efficacy affected on the academic achievement in peer collaboration subject($R^2=0.058$, p<.05). These results can be used as a basis for developing guidelines of nursing freshmen who have to complete a lot of theoretical and practical courses in university.

Influence of ego-resiliency and self-efficacy on major satisfaction of paramedic students (응급구조(학)과 학생의 자아탄력성과 자기효능감이 전공만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of ego-resiliency and self-efficacy on paramedic students in J province. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 465 paramedic students from the J area recruited from September 25 to October 10, 2017. The questionnaire included general characteristics, ego-resiliency, self-efficacy, and satisfaction with their choice of the major subject. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlations, and a multiple regression analysis. Results: As ego-resiliency and self-efficacy increased, satisfaction with their majoring subject also increased. Senior students had higher satisfaction than freshmen in relation to general characteristics. Students having 'interest in their major' owing to personal motivation of choice of major, had higher satisfaction than those having 'suggestion from other'. It is necessary to find a way to increase satisfaction of major and to inspire ego-resiliency and self-efficacy. Conclusion: Future studies should investigate ways to increase major satisfaction toward paramedics and to enhance their ego-resiliency and self-efficacy.

Impact of Role Conflict, Self-efficacy, and Resilience on Nursing Task Performance of Emergency Department Nurses (응급실 간호사의 역할갈등, 자기효능감, 회복탄력성이 간호업무 수행능력에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the effect of role conflict, self-efficacy, and resilience on the nursing task performance of emergency department (ED) nurses. Methods: Data were collected from 140 ED nurses working in 6 general hospitals, using self-reporting questionnaires. Data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0, and the analyses included descriptive statistics, a t-test, an ANOVA, the Pearson's correlation coefficient test, and a stepwise multiple regression. Results: Nursing task performance differed significantly in terms of the following general characteristics of the participants: age, marital status, total clinical experience, clinical experience in the ED, and position at the hospital. Nursing task performance was positively correlated with role conflict, self-efficacy, and resilience. Self-efficacy, role conflict, clinical experience in the ED, and resilience were significant predictors of nursing performance, and they accounted for 36.9% of the variance. Conclusion: Self-efficacy was identified as the most significant factor affecting the nursing task performance of ED nurses. Therefore, it is necessary to develop programs to improve the self-efficacy of ED nurses.

The association between oral health behavior intention and self-efficacy of dental hygiene students (일부 치위생과 학생들의 자기효능감과 구강보건행동 실천의지의 연관성)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to provide basic data to develop health education program, by analyzing the relationship between the oral health behavior intention and self-efficacy in dental hygiene students. Methods : This research was based on self administrated survey conducted by 348 dental hygiene students. The survey was composed of five items of general characteristics, ten items of factor in self-efficacy and seven items of factor in oral health behavior intention. Results : According to general characteristics, students with high grades had higher oral health behavior intention(p<0.05) and students answered that the significance of oral health is very important had higher oral health behavior intention(p<0.05). The level of self-efficacy was separated by high-level(30%), medium-level(40%), and low-level (30%), and the higher self-efficacy was, the higher oral health behavior intention was. Conclusions : By improving dental hygiene student's self-efficacy, it was necessary to promote oral health behavior intention.
