  • The present investigation has focus on the study of deformation due to thermomechanical sources in a thick circular plate. The thick circular plate is homogeneous, transversely isotropic with two temperatures and without energy dissipation. The upper and lower surfaces of the thick circular plate are traction free. The Laplace and Hankel transform has been used for finding the general solution to the field equations. The analytical expressions of stresses, conductive temperature and displacement components are computed in the transformed domain. However, the resulting quantities are obtained in the physical domain by using numerical inversion technique. Numerically simulated results are illustrated graphically. The effects of two temperatures by considering different values of temperature parameters are shown on the various components. Some particular cases are also figured out from the present investigation.

  • In general, common cause failures (CCFs) have been modeled with the assumption that components within the same group are symmetric. This assumption reduces the number of parameters required for the CCF probability estimation and allows us to use a parametric model, such as the alpha factor model. Although there are various asymmetric conditions in nuclear power plants (NPPs) to be addressed, the traditional CCF models are limited to symmetric conditions. Therefore, this paper proposes the copulabased CCF model to deal with asymmetric as well as symmetric CCFs. Once a joint distribution between the components is constructed using copulas, the proposed model is able to provide the probability of common cause basic events (CCBEs) by formulating a system of equations without symmetry assumptions. In addition, Bayesian inferences for the parameters of the marginal and copula distributions are introduced and Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithms are employed to sample from the posterior distribution. Three example cases using simulated data, including asymmetry conditions in total failure probabilities and/or dependencies, are illustrated. Consequently, the copula-based CCF model provides appropriate estimates of CCFs for asymmetric conditions. This paper also discusses the limitations and notes on the proposed method.

  • We examine the HI gas kinematics and distribution of galaxy pairs in group or cluster environment from high-resolution Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) WALLABY pilot observations. We use 22 well-resolved galaxies in the Hydra cluster of which 4 galaxies are visually identified as pairs and others are isolated ones. We perform profile decomposition of HI velocity profiles of the galaxies using a new tool, BAYGAUD which enables us to separate a line-of-sight velocity profile into an optimal number of Gaussian components based on Bayesian MCMC techniques. All the HI velocity profiles of the galaxies are decomposed into kinematically cold or warm gas components with their velocity dispersion, 4~8 km/s or > 8 km/s, respectively. We derive the mass fraction of the kinematically cold gas with respect to the total HI gas mass, f = log10(M_cold / M_HI), of the galaxies and correlate them with their dynamical mass. The cold gas reservoir of the paired galaxies in the Hydra cluster is found to be relatively higher than that of the isolated ones which show a negative correlation with the dynamical mass in general.

  • According to revolutionary developments in automobile technologies, various electronically controlled components of vehicles are rapidly increasing. A variety of advanced vehicles (hybrid vehicle, hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle, electric vehicle, etc.) using electrical energy source are increasing, too. The electromagnetic compatibility is getting more important for development of a vehicle because those advanced vehicles are equipped with more new electronic systems. In general, electromagnetic compatibility tests consist of an electromagnetic interference (EMI) test and an electromagnetic susceptibility (EMS) test. In this paper, in order to investigate the electromagnetic interference in the cabin of vehicle by various electric and electronic components of vehicles, a series of narrowband electromagnetic emission tests are conducted. For comparison, the several digital home appliances (smartphone under charging, laptop compuer and digital camera), which are used a lot in daily lives, are tested.

  • This study aimed to investigate the roles of three health-oriented personal factors-health technology innovativeness (HTI), health consciousness (HC), and health information orientation (HIO)-in determining Koreans' perceptions about telemedicine. Based on an extended version of the technology acceptance model (TAM), two perceptual components-perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEOU)-of telemedicine were considered for this investigation. Data from 699 usable surveys were analyzed using path analysis. The results from the path analysis indicated that while HTI and HC had no or limited effects on the PU and PEOU of telemedicine, the effects of HIO on those two perceptual components of telemedicine were statistically significant. Moreover, the results from the path analysis showed that there were significant regional differences in the effects of HTI and HC on the PU and PEOU of telemedicine. In general, these effects were greater among the metropolitan residents than they were among the rural residents.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relative influence of multiple error sources and to find optimal measurement conditions that obtain a desired level of reliability of a creative attitude test in mathematical creativity. This study analyzed the scores of the Creative Attitude Scale-Korea allowed to access publicly of 125 general students and 109 mathematically gifted students by performing a multivariate generalizability analysis. The main results were as follows. First, based on reliability, the Creative Attitude Scale-Korea was measured less precisely for mathematically gifted students. On the contrary, based on the conditional standard error of measurement, it was measured less precisely for general students. However, the Creative Attitude Scale-Korea showed strong reliability in both groups. Second, the optimal weights should adjust to .3, .3, .4 in mathematically gifted students and .4, .4, .2 in general students with three scoring components of divergent attitude, problem solving attitude, and convergent attitude based on the maximum reliability. Third, to approach desirable reliability, it is possible to use one component of divergent attitude in general students but three components of divergent attitude, problem solving attitude, and convergent attitude in mathematically gifted students. Finally this study proposed application plans for the Creative Attitude Scale-Korea and future directions of research.

We studied the serological reaction between the specific and nonspecific antigenic components from metacestode (plerocercoid) of spiromeko erimacei and IgG antibodies in sparganosis, cysticercosis. hydatidosis patients and normal human sera by ELISA and EITB. We prepared the crude extracts of sparganlim from snake, Matrix tigrina laterolis and used as antigenic components. By SDS-PAGE, we detected a total 25 peptide bands (fractions) with 290 Kd to 23 Kd molecular weight, and 8 bands of these detected bands developed strongly by silver stain. In serological test, ELISA, we recognized the cross-reaction of antigenic components reacting with IgG antibodies in heterogenous sera, cysticercosis and hydatidosis patients sera. The crude antigenic components of sparganum showed the high sensitivity in sparganosis, hydatidosis patients sera, but showed lower sensitivity in cysticercosis patients sera than the sparasanosis, hydatidosis patients sera. Sixteen antigenic components of these 25 separated bands were recognized by antibodies In sparsanosis patients sera,8 antigenic components in normal human sera, 4 antigenic components in cysticercosis patients sera and 19 antigenic compoenents in hydatidosis patients sera. The crude antigenic compnenets with 290 Kd, 200 Kd, 125 Kd and 28 Kd molecular weight was only recognized in sparganosis patients sera, but 64 Kd antigenic component was nonspecific antigenic components which were also cross-reacted with sparganosis, hydatidosis, cysticercosis patients sera and normal human sera.

  • Objectives: Toad venom, called Chan-Su, is a traditional Oriental medicine secreted from the auricular and the skin glands of the Bufo bufo gargarizanz Cantor or B. melanosticus Schneider and has been widely used in China, Korea and other parts of Asia for the treatment of pain, heart conditions, and cancer. We examined the concentrations of the main chemical constituents within a commercially available toad venom product and compared the levels for different extraction methods. Methods: Toad venom was extracted using either cold or hot water, ethanol (EtOH), methanol (MeOH), or ethyl acetate (EtOAc), was fractionated using precipitation or reflux, and was then analyzed using thin layer chromatography (TLC), high-performance liquid chromatography (HTLC), and liquid chroma-tography - mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Individual components were identified by comparisons of the retention times, the ultraviolet spectra, and mass spectras and differences in chemical constituents for different solvents and extraction methods are presented. Results: Components with authentic standards, including serotonin and bufodienolides (cinobufagen, bufalin, cinobufalin, and resibufogenin), were detected. The water extract of toad venom contained the greatest amount of serotonin ($75.7{\pm}0.1$ mg/g), but very small amounts of bufodienolides ($3.8{\pm}0.0$ mg/g). In contrast, the use of MeOH or EtOH extraction solutions resulted in 5-26 times higher concentrations of bufodienolides, with only trace amounts of serotonin. The relative and the absolute concentrations of the component also varied based on the extraction method; i.e., EtOH extracts yielded the greatest total amounts of bufodienolides, and EtOAc precipitation had the lowest amounts of bufodienolides. Conclusions: Toad venom consists of serotonin and several bufodienolides, and the choice of solvent to extract chemical the constituents is important as a way to enrich the purported active components for treating different conditions.
