  • Objective : Traumatic lumbar burst fracture causes significant spinal cord injury. This report is intended to estimate the efficacy using oriental treatment on a patient with lumbar burst fracture and spinal cord injury. Methods : From 21th December, 2009 to 5th February, 2010, 1 female inpatient diagnosed with lumbar burst fracture and spinal cord injury was treated with general oriental medicine therapy : mae-sun therapy ; acupuncture ; moxibustion ; pharmacopuncture ; physical therapy and herbal medication. TUG, SCIMII and VAS were used for evaluation of gait disturbance and pain in both feet. Measurement of self voiding amount and remaining amount through CIC was used for evaluation of neurogenic vesical dysfunction. Results : The patient showed a certain degree of improvement in gait disturbance, pain in both feet and neurogenic vesical dysfunction through above evaluation methods. Conclusion : Oriental treatments such as mae-sun therapy, acupuncture and moxibustion therapy, pharmacopuncture therapy and herbal medication can be effective for spinal cord injury due to traumatic lumbar burst fracture.

  • In order to develop an effective methods of electroacupuncture regional analgesia for Cattle, six adult Korean-native cattle, which were healthy and had ordinary perception response, were examined on the study. Using them, there were treated with six different prescription applying on six mendian points including Samyang Rack, Keud Mun, Bu Yang, Sameum Kyo, Backhyo and Hu Hae. The results are summerized as follows. 1 In the case of the acupuncture treatment on Samyang Rack and Keuk Mun located on both fore-legs. the good effect of regional analgesia was obtained toward the anterior part of cattle; on the other hand, when treated with Bu Yang and Sameum Kyo at both hindlegs. the same result were represented toward the posterior part. 2. The level of the electronic current of each electro-acupuncture treatment for bovine regional analgesia was proved to necessitated the same amount of which had given body general electro-acupuncture analgesia. 3. Any significant changes could not find out the hematological and biochemical values of all acupuncture-treated cattle during the experiment. 4. Each elector-acupuncture prescription appeared to be considerably effective for bovine regional analgesia, and also showed the possibility on applying the standing position of cattle for various surgical treatment regardless its operation areas.

  • Objective: A study on $\ll$Lingchui, 靈樞 Weiqi, 衛氣$\gg$ which descripted Twelve meridian Biaoben(標本) pulse diagnosis method. Methods: A study on Twelve meridian Biaoben(標本) pulse diagnosis method which has the cognizance of Biaoben(標本) on upper and low twelve meridian as linear upper and low pulse diagnosis point. Results: Twelve meridian Biaoben(標本) pulse diagnosis method is derived from using each twelve meridian pulse diagnosis and it can be explained that the ben(本) pulse point on wrist ankle and the biao(標) pulse point on thorax axillary neck head face correspond to upper and low part of meridian for diagnosis and treatment which become the theory of "treat upper disease on low part, treat low disease on upper part". Conclusions: Twelve meridian Biaoben(標本) pulse diagnosis method started confirming the general concept of Jue-symptom(厥症) and Jue-symptom(絶症) and developed upper and low pulse diagnosis point or acupuncture point to treatment.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study is to examine the effects of SSP(silver-spike point) therapy, applied to acupuncture points, on the middle cerebral arteries blood flows of sample group(tention-type headache patients, n=12) and control group(non tension-type headache patients, n=12), and on the reduction of their headaches, when applied to acupuncture points. Methods : We stimulated 6 acupuncture points for headache with the SSP(three times a week for three weeks), and measured VAS(visual analogue scale) and the blood flow of the middle cerebral arteries with TCD(transcranial doppler ultrasonography). Results : The blood flow of the middle cerebral artery and VAS of the sample group and the control group were compared four times(initial, 1weeks, 2weeks, 3weeks) and significant differences in the measurements were found at 3 weeks(p<.05). The blood flow of the middle cerebral artery of the sample group was significantly increased, and VAS was significantly decreased in both groups. Conclusions : The silver-spike-point low-frequency electrical-stimulation treatment, applied to acupuncture points, can significantly increase the blood flow of the middle cerebral arteries in headache patients and can thus alleviate their headaches.

And the change of pain was measured by the method of VAS after menstration monthly two times. Results : The improvement frequency of pain after treatment according to VAS all got better after one, two months of treatment. Especially, the mean${\pm}$S.E. of VAS score after 2nd month treatment was decreased significantly compared with that of 1st month treatment(p<0.05). And Between acupuncture treatment and herbal medication groups had no significant differences on the efficacy of treatment. Conclusion : The acupuncture treatment or herbal medication during five or seven days before menstruation will be efficacious against primary dysmenorrhea.

  • Objectives The purpose of this study is to determine if there is a difference in acupuncture sensation depending on the bee venom pharmacopunctures. The study was designed to identify the intrinsic acupuncture sensation of the bee venom pharmacopunctures compared to saline. Methods Bee venom,(BV), Sweet bee venom(SBV), and normal saline were injected in order to the left of ST36 (Joksamni), ST37 (Sang-geoheo), right ST36 (Joksamni), ST37 (Sanggeoheo) each. The order of insertion of the BV, SBV, and normal saline was randomly assigned using a computerized random number table. The questionnaire used in this study was based on the Massachusetts General Hospital Acupuncture Sensation Scale (MASS). Results : BV and SBV was statistically significantly higher than saline in soreness, aching, distention, sharp pain and itchiness. Above this, BV was statistically significantly higher than saline in tingling and throbbing. And SBV was statistically significantly higher than saline in warmth. BV was statistically significantly higher than SBV in ichiness. Conclusion. BV and SBV were mainly strong, heavy, and gave a sharp feeling to the subjects. The results of the study can be used as references for future bee venom pharmacopunctures use. In addition, the results of the study can be used as basic data for clinical trials using bee venom pharmacopunctures.
