This study explores Korean youths' gender equality consciousness in an attempt to search for a way to increase youth's gender equality consciousness. First, this study carries out a survey of youths' gender equality consciousness based on questionnaires collected from a nationwide sample. Second, this study attempts to identify key points needed to evaluate youths' gender equality consciousness in terms of youths' general values. The data used for this survey is from the survey on youths' values conducted by Korean Institute for Health and Social Affairs in 2006 with a sample of 11,240 students from 132 schools nationwide. As a result, youths in 2006 had higher gender equality consciousness than that of previous years(2002). Especially, the support for the fair share of domestic work in the house by youths was significantly increased than the past. However, the survey of youths' values showed clear gender gaps in general attitudes of youths including gender equality consciousness. Female students not only had higher gender equality consciousness than male students but also had higher levels of 'universal value' which would allow one to become sensitive to discrimination and 'self development and achievement value'. In contrast, male students scored high on 'power-oriented value' related to discriminatory attitudes. Therefore, the study recommends focusing on alleviating the gender gaps through school education and other various media education.

The purpose of this study is to examine how female labor force participation, family policies, and gender equality are related to fertility rate across countries. Multiple measures has been collected from various data sources(such as OECD, UNDP, and WVS) and the panel data set which includes (mostly) OECD countries range from 1990 to 2019 are analyzed. The major findings are as follows. First, based on OECD countries samples, female labor force participation is positively associated with the fertility rate, which implies that women's labor force participation does not lead to a reduction in fertility rate. Second, the length of paternity leave is positively associated with fertility rate whereas the direction is the opposite for the relationship between the length of maternity leave and fertility rate. This is attributed to the possibility that a longer period of maternity leave incurs the a higher opportunity cost of earning income, which leads to a reduced fertility rate. Third, countries with higher gender inequality index tend to have a higher fertility rate. Similarly, countries with higher gender equality value have a lower fertility rate. When the gender equality value is devideed into three sub-categories, education, politics, and employment, the gender equality value in education is the only sub-category which is negatively associated with the fertility rate. This study confirms that female labor force participation may not be a contributing factor in the lowering of fertility rate but instead can be positively associated with the fertility rate. Also, the results show that family policies or gender equality values can be significantly affect fertility rate.

This study investigates the effects of gender equality values, perceptions of gender equality, and gender cultural characteristics on adolescents' marriage intentions in the Busan area. For this research purpose, we used data from a survey on youth sexual culture in Busan. We found that conservative values and misogynistic value perceptions, which are subfactors of gender equality values, appeared at levels below the median. Perceptions of gender equality were also reported at a level below the median. Among the sexual culture characteristics, most of the experience of requesting housework was found to have not been requested for less than one out of five items, and the frequency of sex-related conversations with friends was found to be lower than the median. More than half of the respondents had dating experience, and adolescents' marriage intentions were slightly higher than the median. In addition, gender equality values, perceptions of gender equality, and gender cultural characteristics all had a significant effects on adolescents' marriage intentions. Specifically, more conservative values corresponded to, lower perceptions of misogynistic values, and higher awareness of gender equality corresponded to, more experience with requesting housework. Furthermore, a higher frequency of sex-related conversations, and more adolescent dating experiences, corresponded to higher marriage intentions among adolescents. Based on these findings, we propose policy measures to improve adolescents' marriage intentions.

The purposes of this study were intended to examine by variables influencing gender equality consciousness in middle school students and provide basic materials useful for their education of gender equality consciousness by finding out variables influencing equality consciousness. The subjects were the 1,201 students who studied at middle schools in Jeonllabuk-do. Using structured questionnaire surveyed. Data were analyzed with Frequency, Percentage, Mean, Std, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, t-test, and Multiple Regression using SPSS/PC WIN 14.0 program. The major findings were as follows: 1. The mean value of gender equality consciousness in middle school students was 3.89 in the whole, 3.88 in home life, 3.92 in school life, 4.04 in the workplace, and 3.70 in social and cultural life, suggesting high value in all areas. While the workplace and the school life showed higher gender equality consciousness than the whole, the home life and social and cultural life showed lower consciousness. 2. The whole gender equality consciousness were influenced by sex, mother's gender equality consciousness, homeroom teacher's gender equality consciousness, an enough schooling, desirable school types, perception of abolition of family-head system, and social gender equality consciousness. And the Middle school students' whole gender equality consciousness were explained about 32% by these variables.
The purpose of current study is to investigate university students' attitudes toward prostitutes and factors affecting their attitudes. Based on previous research, age, grade, major, gender, religion, religious faith, watching pornography, prostitution experience, empathy level, anti-prostitution/anti-rape /human right education and gender equality level were constructed as independent variables. Using self-administered survey method, 502 students participated in survey. Research results indicated that average of respondents' attitudes toward prostitutes 4.19 was higher than median value(3). Results of multiple regression revealed that a male student, a social welfare and theology major student, a respondent with lower social-economic status, a respondent with higher level of empathy, and gender equality is more likely to demonstrate more supportive and positive attitude toward prostitute. Based on research results, developing programs aimed at enhancing empathy and gender equality, and implementing character education and prostitution/sexual violence prevention program were provided as policy implications.
The purpose of this study was to examine (1) if sociocultural factors that are known to influence gender gap in mathematics achievement are gender equitable for Singaporean eighth grade students, (2) if there is a higher level of gender equitability in students' attitudes towards mathematics and (3) how sociocultural factors influence mathematics achievement for Singaporean eighth grade students. This study is based on 5,923 Singaporean eighth grade students who participated in TIMSS 2011 assessment. The study found that there were no statistically significant gender differences in 'parental involvement in education' and 'teacher efficacy.' There were no statistically significant gender differences in students' attitudes of 'like learning mathematics,' and 'value learning mathematics'. A significant gender difference was identified for the attitude of 'confident with mathematics.' The boys displayed a higher level of confidence in mathematics than the girls consistent with other study findings for Asian students. The degree of effect from 'parental involvement in education,' 'teacher efficacy,' and 'confident with mathematics' on mathematics achievement are found to be stronger for girls than boys. The finding implies that girls' mathematics achievement can benefit from having more positive encouragement and involvement of parents and teachers and strengthening confidence in mathematics.
This study focuses on reviewing the concepts, roles, meanings, and values ascribed to females and femininity as observable in Daesoon thought and in Feminist theory. Especially with regards to the process of achieving gender equality through the resolution of grievance for females in Daesoon thought, the study draws positive and desirable roles within this practice by specifically examining good deeds performed by females and practical roles that females play. By doing so, this study finds a way to go from the world of mutual contention to the world of resolving grievances that have arisen due to the oppression of yin and the encouragement of yang. First wave feminism can be summarized as the inclination for equality. In Daesoon thought concerning this and from standpoint of females, the most ideal image of woman is one of a female Perfected Being who is unified with Dao and has thereby achieved perfection of her humanity apart from gender. In the Later World (Hucheon), people can get results based on their hard work regardless of gender. The enlightenment of Dao is such that it is not important to distinguish between males and females. Both of them can be 'unified with dao'. Therefore, despite the similarity, the concepts of equality in first wave feminism and the resolution of grievance for women have differences in terms of their ideal vision of equality. The representative claim in second wave feminism is 'consideration' and, in this context, 'consideration' has pronounced feminine characteristics. In Daesoon thought, this sense of 'consideration' is related to the concept of 'Jamojijeong', a term that refers to motherly affection. However, it is not simply a virtue of females and mothers, but rather the value of 'Yin (pronounced in Sino-Korean as 'Eum')' called 'Eumdeok (hidden virtue)'. Jamojijeong means that people should behave in a modest way and this helps them achieve their aims. It is also closely related with 'femininity' in the sense of Eum. One of processes spreading it socially is to propagate virtue (Podeok) and if harmony is achieved through it, then 'right yin and right yang' emerge as the precondition by which Pyeong Do (Pacification of Tao) can be realized. Furthermore, because the aspect of Pyeong is a cosmic process, it has distinct differences from the social aims of feminism and the worldly aims of other numerous ideologies. In proceeding from the Former World (Seoncheon), an era of mutual contention, to the Later World, an era of mutual beneficence, it is essential to emphasize the connection between 'harmony (Hwa)' and 'propagating virtue' as the starting point from which the perspective of Daesoon thought aiming at the principle of 'Pyeong' and 'Hwa' emerges. Herein one can discover that the realization of Daesoon thought is based on the vitalization of the feminine value of 'Jamojijeong'.

Under the these cultural influences, change in value of beauty and trend of liberation in sexuality have brought out health problems, alcohol, smoking, and drug abuse in young women. In order to solve the women's health problem, first of all women have to come out of the passive manner of dependency on man. Also they should have the insight and the management and/or intervention ability of caring their health. It can be obtained through the family-society-nation wide approach as well as the approach for women themselves.

The purpose of this study is to provide further direction to the culture program at the healthy family center by analyzinge its different concepts of family living culture, which is based on changes in the family values of an individual. This research was conducted on residents in the area of Seoul and Kung-gi from March 1, 2007 to March 30, 2007. The survey was distributed to 300 people, and 186 surveys were collected. Among those 186 surveyed, 179 were finally analyzed. Findings from the survey are as follows: First, age, gender, and marital status show differences in familism, consciousness of men's and women's equality, and recognition of family cultural ritual. As to planning the healthy family culture program, the program participants' age, gender, and marital status should be considered to successfully plan and operate the program. Second, regarding the view of family life from three aspects including the degree of recognition of family cultural ritual, familism, and the consciousness of men's and women's equality, all three variables show differences in the view of family life. Therefore, it will be highly effective to organize two separate groups: one presents lower recognition of family cultural ritual and family-based values, and another possesses a higher sense of equality. Third, the result of reviewing relative effectiveness to the proper family life value, wedding, consciousness of parents respect(=filial piety), and sacrificial rituals, funeral rites were founded to highly effective to family living view. Therefore, it will be highly effective to include these topics, when the family cultural living program is planned.
This study analyzed individual-level and country-level factors affecting justification of domestic violence amid emerging social significance of family violence. For individual-level variables, prejudice against women in economic and social roles were used from the World Value Survey data. As for country-level variables, total of 36 countries were analyzed with indices that represents gender equality such as women's employment rate and democracy index. Women's employment rate was gathered from the Labour Market Database of the World Bank and democracy index was from the Economist Intelligence Unit. Results showed that both individual-level, prejudice against women in economic and social roles and country-level variables such as women's employment rate and democracy index had significant effects on justification of domestic violence. This result implies the importance of creating positive social culture which promotes positive attitudes towards perceptions of gender role and gender equality. As well, country-level endeavors to raise gender equality in employment deem important. Based on these findings, policy implications and recommendations for future research were discussed.
