  • This article proposes a novel shift automation mechanism for an automated manual transmission (AMT). The development of an automated manual transmission is currently being paid considerable attention by vehicle manufacturers, with the prospects of combining the comfort of an automatic transmission and the high efficiency of a manual transmission. In order to automate the shift mechanism of a manual transmission, the proposed shift automation mechanism consists of two electric motors, cross shaped pinion gears, rack type shift rails, and a ball splined hollow shaft. First we describe the shift mechanism and operating principles of a manual transmission to investigate important design criteria for the shift automation device. And a new shift automation mechanism is described with its structure, elements, and operating principles in detail. Using a conventional manual transmission, we develop a full three-dimensional CAD model of an AMT which includes main components of the manual transmission and the designed shift automation mechanism. Finally we investigate the operating performances and feasibility of the designed AMT by a dynamic analysis.

  • The purpose of this study is to set the standard items of the garment size for infants. The studied subject consisted of 560 infants from at brith to 12 months of Pusan and Gyeongnam area. The Results from this analysis are as follows; 1. The most significant growths in body dimensions of infants as an month age advanced. Expecially, stature, weight and the items of height and length showed a quite rapid growth, but the items of girth, breadth and depth showed a slow growth. 2. The coefficient of correlation between stature and weight shows high value. The result of interpretation of the extracted components are as follows. It will be more appropriate to use the method of parallerizing with height and weight items rather than with month age in classficating and indicating of size for infant garment and in taking the head girth as basic item of infant for head-gears. Consequently, as the standard items for the classification of clothing constuction of infants, it is advisable to select weight alone or both stature and weight. 3. According to the method of classifying the somatotype by the index of body soundness, the Rohrer.Kaup index on the basis of standard items, weight and stature was divided into somatotype.

  • Control of a robot manipulator in contact with the environment is usually conducted by the direct feedback control using a force-torque sensor or the indirect impedance control. In these methods, however, the control algorithms become complicated and the performance of position and force control cannot be improved because of the mechanical properties of the passive components. To cope with such problems, redundant actuation has been used to enhance the performance of position control and force control. In this research, a Double Actuator Unit (DAU) is proposed, with which the force control algorithm can be simplified and can make the robot ensure the safety during the external collision. The DAU is composed of two actuators; one controls the position and the other modulates the joint stiffness. Using this unit, it is possible to independently control the position and stiffness. The DAU based on the planetary gears is investigated in this paper. Performance using the DAU is also verified by various experiments. It is shown that the manipulator using this mechanism provides better safety during the impact with the environment by reducing the joint stiffness appropriately on detecting the collision of a manipulator.

  • A tooth profile modification for loaded gears is used to avoid a tooth impact. Since a tooth profile error causes amplification of the cumbersome whine noise in automotive gear transmissions, an optimal quantity of tooth profile modifications must be obtained for good performance in the vibration sense. In this paper, a tooth profile modification curve considering profile manufacturing errors and elastic deformation of the gear tooth is formulated; in addition, transmission errors of the gear system with modified teeth are verified. The equivalent excitation due to transmission errors is formulated. For experimental evaluation of the transmission error, the transmission error for a simple gear system was measured by two rotational laser vibrometers. Finally, we perform a comparative analysis between the calculated and measured responses to the excitations due to the transmission error to verify the practicability of the application to automotive transmissions.

  • This paper describes a simple proportional and integral control algorithm for a swirl motor controller and its application. The control algorithm may be complicated in order to have desired performance, such as low steady state errors, fast response time, and relatively low overshoot. At the same time, it should be compact so that it can be easily implemented on a low cost microcontroller, which has no floating-point calculation capability and low computing speed. These conflicting requirements are fulfilled by the proposed control algorithm which consists of a gain scheduling proportional controller and an anti-windup integral controller. The mechanical friction, which is caused by gears and a return spring, varies very nonlinearly according to the angular position of the system. This nonlinear static friction is overcome by the proportional controller, which has a two-dimensional look up gain table. It has error axis and angular position axis. The integral controller is designed not only to minimize the steady state error but also to avoid the windup effect, which may be caused by the saturation of a motor driver. The proposed control algorithm is verified by use of a commercial product to prove the feasibility of the algorithm.

  • Engineering plastics have been magnified its usability due to its outstanding mechanic al, electrical and chemical properties, for example, in the area of computer, electricity, electronics, automobile, camera industry. In recent, automobile speedometer system is changing from manual operation to motor operation. All plastic gears inserted by metal shaft are used In motor operated speedometer system. Therefore, in this research, experimental investigation of the shrinkage phenomenon was executed according to various inserted depth and injection conditions. In experiments, the inserted depth was controlled as 30% and 90% of the total thickness of the plastic gear. The main parameters of injection process were selected as injection pressure, holding pressure, melt temperature, injection rate. As main results, free shrinkage rate of the test part is increased about 4 times to restricted shrinkage rate and shrinkage phenomenon against all injection conditions have a trivial effect on the test parts as conventional parts.

  • Authors encountered a case of elk babesiosis in Daegu, Korea. The main symptoms observed before the death of the patient were elevated rectal temperature, severe degree of hemoglobinuria, icterus and recumbency. Hematologically, the erythrocyte count was 1.93 million per cu.mm 11% of which were infected with Babesia. Most(88%) of the protozoa were spherical or vacuolated ring form in shape, resembling B. bovis. However, the sizes (0.98-2.85) were slightly smaller than the latter. About 7% of the protozoa were vacuolated oval, the size of which varied from $2.06{\sim}2.95{\times}1.08{\sim}1.97$ ($2.53{\times}1.51$ in average). The remaining 5% were irregular in shape. Pear-shaped were scarcely observed. A three-gears-old Korean native cattle was inoculated subcutaneously with the elk's blood. However, no evidence of susceptibility was observed until 30 days postinoculation.

  • The rotating transmission is made up of belts, mass disks and gears. This precise piece of equipment is controlled electro-mechanically by the mote. and operation program. The control strategy and the transmission can be changed by belts' stiffness and change of the mass and gear. This transmission can be modeled as a rigid body, and also finds broad application in such diverse fields as machine tools, the cruise control system in automobiles, and control in the attitude and gimbals of spacecraft. The study of the rotating transmission excited by its base motion is not only able to predict the rotational performance, but obtain the fundamental data for vibration isolation. In this thesis, we studied the response abilities such as steady overshoot, undershoot and ect. and the response velocities such as rising time, settling time, and ect. in the rotating transmission through PD control experiment.

  • In this paper, a simplified model is studied to predict analytically the radiated noise from the helical gear system due to an axial excitation of helical gear. The simplified model describes gear, shaft, bearing, and housing. To obtain the axial force of helical gear, mesh stiffness is calculated in the load deflection relation. The axial force is obtained from the solution of the equation of motion, using the mesh stiffness. It is used as a longitudinal excitation of the shaft, which in turn drives the gear housing through the bearing. In this study, the shaft is modeled as a rod, while the bearing is modeled as a parallel spring and damper only supporting longitudinal forces. The gear housing is modeled as a clamped circular plate with viscous damping. For the modeling of this system, transfer function from the shaft to the clamped plate are used, using a spectral method with four pole parameters. Out-of-plane displacement for the thin circular plate with viscous damping is derived and sound pressure radiated from the plate is also derived. Using the model, parameter studies are carried out.

  • Clutches are an integral part of the automatic transmission for changing gears. Modern automatic transmissions make extensive use of wet multiple-disc clutches employing hydraulic actuation mechanism with electronic control. Although nowadays, highly advanced shifting algorithm implements the superior shift quality and transmission efficiency, its performance should be based on smooth, reliable engagement with a reasonably durable friction material as well as stable clutch piston dynamics. Particularly, clutch filling control is the crucial part of shifting process because only the open-loop control is available due to the lack of measurement. In this paper, the effect of clutch-fill control parameters on clutch piston dynamics is experimentally investigated by using clutch piston test equipment which enables the clutch piston to actuate similar to real shifting conditions. The experimental analysis results can be expected to be utilized for the calibration of proportional solenoid valve as reference current profile data in vehicle test.
